  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What I’m hearing is
“Past injustices just ‘go away’ when the majority finally does the ‘right thing’; anyone not grateful for this societal-shift is just ‘living in the past’.”

Or am I incorrect?

If I may.
That segment of the black community is a ship without a rudder, adrift in strange waters.

America for “that segment of the black community” (what happens to individualism when it’s black folk?), is “strange waters”?
Who controls their oceans?

Past injustices are still injustices. But they are injustices of the PAST and not the present or future. What exactly do you want to do about them? What exactly can be done about them?

Can we remember them? Of course. Can we be grateful they are over? Yes! Should we continue to throw it in the face of our fellow Americans who had absolutely nothing to do with it? No we shouldn't .

Should the Jews forget what the Nazis did to them? No, of course not. But the Jews don't go running around saying Germany sucks because of what the Nazis did. Should the Christians run around and throw it in the Italians faces because the Roman empire slaughtered so many of them many years ago? At what point do we say, it's time to move past the past? How many years exactly? Especially when it IS over.

You'll never move to a brighter future while living in the past. You'll never see the good or have gratefulness while holding on to injuries that we're done to your ancestors.

If you constantly think that you have no control then you won't. It's called victim mentality. If you think you can have control then you will. We don't live in slavery or segregation or Jim Crowe any longer.

Do you mean their ancestral homelands?

The black community needs to be patient. What they hope to gain in less than two centuries took the white community thousands of years to build. If not for western slavery their condition would be that of the present day African.

The fact is that blacks generally have made huge gains in every field. However there remains a large underclass that lags behind.

Do you understand why that post would be seen by many--of all colors--as offensively racist?

Why do you think that is?

Why do you think you have the right to declare unilaterally that "It is over?" Some of the posts in this very thread would suggest otherwise.

And who exactly ARE YOU (or anyone else) to dare tell minorities to let it go and move on? And who exactly are you to tell minorities how they are suppose to feel? I'm sorry, but it's obvious that you don't have a clue. You can ignore all the statistics and articles I've already posted and in this post, but that doesn't change anything and it doesn't mean you have a right to tell minorities to get over it.

I understand by saying this that you are trying to make it so.

Some take advantage of opportunities given them.
Some don't.
No, it's objectively offensive whether you mean it to be or not, and factually inaccurate as well.
