I'm especially interested in what you have learned from studying the passage. Any insights, word searches, commentaries and of course, personal meaning. This is a very general question, feel free to respond as you see fit. I've just noticed most Christians and even some unbelievers, have a favorite passage of Scripture. It's usually kind of interesting to hear them go on about it.

Grace and peace,
Mark

"So Jesus said to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.'" Jn 6:53-54

I like that passage of Sacred Scripture because it emphasizes the importance of the Eucharist and how it is tied with Jesus' promise of eternal life.

My favourite passage of scripture will always be Psalm 139 especially verses 1-18.
As someone who is adopted and who never properly remembered my birth parents, I have always had a longing for deeper questions about who I was and where I came from.
Psalm 139 always reminds me that it is God who created me, who knitted me together, and who sustains and watches over me.

As with many, my favorite passage changes based on what resonates with me at a particular time. The Beatitudes were my favorite once; the line "Into your hands I commend my spirit" continues to be one of my favorite, but more so when I'm over my head; the Letter of James was my favorite when I was first becoming religious.

Overall, though, after 2 years of really dedicating myself to Christ, having gone through a lot (and surely more), both intellectually as well as struggles & victories, it all comes back to 1 simple thing:

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:36-40)

After much thought & prayer, hardship & victory, blessings & sins, this is what it all comes down to.

"God is love" (1 John 4:8) To let God live in us, we must act with love. Every act of love is an acceptance of God. And every verse that talks about the necessity of observing the Commandments is followed when we simply treat each other lovingly; being there for them, comforting them, having fun with them, protecting, giving, accepting, all the stuff that makes us human. (Side note: This is perhaps the best argument for the Christian God above all other gods; if we are made for love, if we become the fullness of who we are through love, then it only makes sense that our God is Love, and only 1 religion makes such a claim).

Interesting idea for a thread, thanks for posting!

May God bless us all, through His Word & His children!

While it's hard to choose between the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of John and I could say both, if I had to have only one with me, then John, but truly all four gospels have things I'd not want to miss.

For a single passage though --

Isaiah 55 NIV

:) When you read it you'll see.

Thanks, I was starved for a thread with just basic insight and personal inference. I have a few passages I want to bring up later but for now just sitting back and enjoying the posts.

Grace and peace,

This verse speaks for itself...it delights me...what is more delightful than God, rejoicing over "us" with SINGING? :)

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." ~Zeph 3:17

I don't have one favorite, so many have spoken to me at various times and in various ways, according to the purpose at that time. I do like John 1:1 though and also John 3:16. These I use a lot when witnessing. But there are verses all over the bible I've been taken to to witness with, old and new testament. All of Proverbs 3 and all of Proverbs 4 are pure diamonds and rubies to me and for a specific reason I can't take the page up with right now..

Exodus 20:4-6 comes to mind at this moment as I type, this is what the second commandment was written from if you don't remove it then cut 10 in half to become 9 and 10 and make 3 into 2. This is very significant to me right now in the last couple of days:
Exodus 20:4-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor a]">[a]serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visitingb]">[b] the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Luke 23:39-43

One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

This clip (I think from a sermon) really touched me recently. Now, I'll be clear: I don't know who this guy is, what his beliefs are, what kind of church he attends, or what, and I may not agree with every little thing he says here, but in this clip he brings the passage to the heart of the matter and I was very encouraged by it. Sure, there is more to pull out of these verses, but I just want to share this.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. - Romans 8:1

It reminds me how important the gospel is and that I am never condemned.

Romans 12:2 (ESV): Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

I think the passage speaks for itself. I may have stolen from RC Sproul since he was an instrumental influence when I was in despair during my crisis of faith.

For me it's a rather simple question, Elijah opens the prophetic age in a cave, fleeing persecution:

When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" (1 Kings 19:13)
What are you doing here, Elijah? If you know anything about the prophets, they suffered. They often tried to get out of it, but they were not released from their burden until they delivered the message. There's another one in the New Testament after the disciples of John the Baptist asked Jesus if he was the Messiah, where Jesus asks, 'what did you go out into the wilderness to see?" (Matt. 11:7). That was the beginning and the end of the prophetic age, those questions have profound meaning to me with regards to redemptive history and the role of the prophets in it.

Grace and peace,
Mark

Well the Bible is full of them, I personally latched onto one obscure one many years ago when reading the Bible that I found inspirational.

Isaiah 32:8

Now that is interesting, especially given the context, thanks for that.

Jeremiah 23: NASB

5“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD,
“When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch;
And He will reign as king and act wisely
And do justice and righteousness in the land.

6“In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell securely;
And this is His name by which He will be called,
‘The LORD our righteousness.’ (NASB)

Shows promise, fulfillment and Whose Righteousness the Promise is sealed.

You stole my verse!

My favorite has changed during different times in my life. This verse speaks to where I am today, understanding that by controlling what I rest on allows me to renew my mind daily and refreshes my walk.

This scripture a light for my path, and experiencing it is a blessing.

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Lol. I quote that verse all the time when I give my daughter a new book where I want her to think.
