The challenge I am putting up here in the OP is for anyone to show even one scripture that says God's 4th Commandment of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11) which was spoken and written by God himself to his people, has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

Can anyone please show me where in all the bible does is say (SOLA SCRIPTURA; Scripture only please)...

1. That God's 4th commandments 7th day Sabbath has been abolished?

2. That Jesus is a Sabbath?

3. The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?

4. Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?

5. Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?

6. That says that Jesus ever kept the first day (Sunday)?

7. That tells us to keep the first day in honour of the resurrection of Christ?

8. Where the first day is ever given any sacred name?

9. That affirms that any of the apostles ever kept the first day as the Sabbath?

10. From any apostolic writings that authorizes Sunday observance as the Sabbath of God?

11. Where we are told not to work on the first day of the week?

12. That says the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

13. That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

14. Where the apostles ever taught any convert to keep the first day of the week as a Sabbath?

15. Where the first day was ever appointed to be kept as the Lord's Day?

16. Where the first day of the week is ever called the Lord's Day?

17. That says that the first day of the week was ever sanctified and hallowed as a day of rest?

18. That says that the Father or the Son (Jesus) rested on the first day of the week?

19. That says that Jesus, Paul or any other of the apostles taught anyone to observe the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

20. That calls the seventh day the “Jewish Sabbath” or one text that calls Sunday the “Christian Sabbath”?

21. Telling man to keep the first day of the week holy or to worship or rest on the first day of the week?

22. Authorizing anyone to set aside God's Sabbath and observe any other day?

23. Showing any of the apostles keeping the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

24. Authorizing someone to set aside the fourth Commandment and observe any other day of the week?

25. Where any apostle taught us to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

26. Declaring that the seventh day is no longer the Eternal Sabbath day?

27. Where Sunday is now appointed to be kept as the New Testament Sabbath or holy day?

...................

Something to think about here because we are all accountable to God come judgment day where we will all be judged by the Word of God (John 12:47-48).

God's Word makes it very clear that if we follow the teachings of men over the Word of God we are not following God...

MATTHEW 15:3-9 [3],
[3], But he answered and said unto them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
[4], For God commanded, saying, Honor your father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death.
[5], But you say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift devoted to God, whatsoever you might have received from me;
[6], And honors not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have you made the commandment of God void by your tradition.
[7], You hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
[8], These people draw near unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
[9], But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

If we are KNOWINGLY breaking ANY of God's commandments we are not worshipping God.

Look forward to your thoughts...

The short answer is that the Sabbath Day is pretty arbitrary and we would have to go back more than a half dozen centuries to realize that most then didn't observe it on the same day of the week as they do now.

The Gregorian Calendar which is accepted by most of the world now was not established until the 16th Century and advanced the current day by I think 12 days if I remember correctly, so certainly Saturday or Sunday was changed to a different day than it would have been under the old Julian Calendar that did not accurately represent a full year or allow for the quarterly equinoxes.

To assume that we know exactly now what day the Lord rested if we traced the Gregorian Calendar back to the beginning just doesn't hold up in the most basic common sense equation. For those to whom the exact date is important, I can believe that God blesses you for being faithful to what you believe is right.

For the rest of us, I just don't think Jesus, God with us, was all that concerned with following rules to the letter just because they were rules. I think he does not want us to work 24/7 and wants us to take a weekly day of rest and honor him. . .UNLESS. . .our figurative ox is in the ditch--for real and not for just an excuse--in which case I don't think it is a cardinal sin to figuratively pull it out. And I don't think God cares which day of the week we observe as the Sabbath personally, as a church community, or in our immediate society.

I am old enough to remember when towns pretty much rolled up the sidewalks on Saturday night, all businesses and services closed except those that simply had to operate on Sunday--hospitals and such--and Sunday was then observed by all as the Sabbath whether he/she was Christian or not. In those days the Jews and Saturday observing Christians all got two days of rest because they did observe Friday sundown to Saturday sundown as the Sabbath but since nobody would do business on Sunday, they didn't bother to run their businesses then either even if the 'blue laws' had allowed that.

And in retrospect, that tradition was a good thing.

So, let me ask a question. Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?

*I think I'll start a thread "Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?"

Come one come all:

Is it wrong that I keep Shabbat and do not "go to church" on Sunday?

In some ways that is a brilliant diagnostic question! You know according to much of halaka and rabanic tradition the effort taken to go to church to drive or walk actually can easily violate the mitzvah of not working (depending on the distance, time traveled, steps taken etc.)! Bravo!

Nope I'm just talking about your question in terms of rhetoric and such, when dealing with heavy handed Sabattarians. Perhaps I should called it a Socratic question rather than a diagnostic question. :liturgy:

Actually I was going to add that weekly (outside the home) religious observance is kind of a new thing as far as the Judeo-Christian tradition is concerned. It wasn't until sometime in the Deuterocanonical, between the Testament times where that was sort of becoming mainstream. But even in Jesus day, when there was a pretty good spread of synagogues throughout the land, I'm not sure how many Jews attended synagogue weekly. I'm sure, the cities ones likely did (ancient Jerusalem is said to have hundreds of synagogues one on every street corner) , but when much of the country is agrarian that could get dicey for the folks who are living in the farmland and other outskirt areas. (It took only 10 to 12 families to start one, the problem is the expense of scrolls and such would be hard to pay for just a bunch of common folk who often had problems affording their food etc. when the Romans taxed them heavily).

I'm surprised nobody's brought up Colossians 2:16.

Colossians 2:16

"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day."

Also, we worship on a Sunday because it is the day that Christ rose from the dead. But that's been said already.
Perhaps no one brought it up because it means the opposite of what you think. Notice that it states let no one judge you regarding what? They were observing religious festivals. They were observing the New Moon celebration. They were observing the Sabbath Day. Thus Paul is stating let no one judge you regarding your observance of the Sabbath.

You have two sides, your side and a pretend side that actually doesn't represent what anyone thinks (except people made of straw). Congratulations, you won an arbitrary argument that no one was defending.

Once again, these are your words not God's WORD. Where does it say in God's WORD that God's 4th commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day? Scripture please.

You didn't deal with verse 5.

Of course we did CICUMCSION is a Shadow law from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7. ACTS 15 is over the question of CONTEXT that was "IS CIRCUMCISION a requirement for salvation" ACTS 15:1-2.

And Hosea says the sabbath will cease. It specifically says the one given to Israel. What's your proof there was a different sabbath than the one in Ex 20?

Moses says the sabbath is a sign for Israel, not the world. Ex 31:13, 17.
So by what you're posting one of them (Moses or Jesus) is wrong which is called lying.

Your mixing up your shadow laws from the Mosaic book of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 with God's Eternal law (10 commandments) that give us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken in the NEW COVENANT *ROMANS 3:20: ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4. The SHADOW sabbaths (not God's SEVENTH DAY 4th Commandment) connected to FEAST days are fulfilled in Christ and God's plan of salvation in the NEW COVEANT. God's WORD is in harmony with God's WORD. It is your interpretation of the scriptures that is the problem brother not God's WORD.

Hello Selene03, nice to meet you and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Some comments for your consideration below.

The Sabbath is the only commandment that can be change because it was linked to the old creation when God created the land, sea, and everything in it and then rested on the seventh day. The Sabbath was linked to the first or old creation. Exodus 20:10-11 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Where does it say in ALL or anywhere in God's WORD that God's 4th Commandment from his ETERNAL LAW can be changed? Fact is there is NO scripture anywhere in God's WORD that says God's 4th Commandment has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day is there?

Your correct in that God's SABBATH has it's origin in the creation week where God rested on the SEVENTH DAY and BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY and made it a HOLY DAY as part of a FINISHED WORK of creation BEFORE SIN entered the world for mankind *GENESIS 2:1-3; MARK 2:27-28.

If God's Sabbath was made on the SEVENTH DAY of the CREATION WEEK, God BLESSED it and made it HOLY BEFORE SIN. Then the SABBATH cannot be a SHADOW law for salvation because there was NO SIN.

The Lord's day is the first day of the week, which is also called the "eighth day." It is called the "eighth day" because the "eighth day" was a new creation. A new creation brings about a new sabbath.

Where in God's WORD alone does it say that the "LORD'S DAY" is SUNDAY? Please provide scripture. The LORD'S DAY is not SUNDAY and never has been according to God's WORD. God's WORD alone says that the LORD'S DAY is the SABBATH day. All we need to do is ask the question and let God's WORD answer it.

What day is the LORD'S DAY according to God's WORD?

MATTHEW 12:8. FOR THE SON OF MAN IS LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Does this scripture say God's 4th commandment is Abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day?

Christ, who is Lord of the Sabbath, rose from the dead on Sunday, which is the first day of the week. The first day recalls the first creation. Because it's follows the sabbath, it's also called the "eighth day and symbolized the new creation ushered in by Christ's resurrection. For Christians, it is the Lord's Day. The Old Testament is a foreshadow of things to come. The Old Testament says that there will be a "Lord's Day" and that is the day we should rejoice (See Psalm 118:24).

There is no such thing as an eight day week. There are only seven days in a week and God BLESSED and MADE HOLY the SEVENTH DAY of the creation week *GENESIS 2:1-3. JESUS and LORD of the SABBATH that he created for all mankind as part of the FINISHED work of creation BEFORE SIN entered the world when mankind was in perfecrt harmony with God. So the Sabbath cannot be a SHADOW law of anything. It is the 4th Commandments of God's ETERNAL LAW (10 commandments) that give us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken in the NEW COVENANT *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4. Accoding to God's WORD if we KNOWINGLY break any one of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of SIN. God's WORD says that the "LORD'S DAY is the SABBATH day not Sunday *MATTHEW 12:8. There is no scripture in God's WORD saying that the LORD'S DAY is Sunday.

This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Everyday is the day that the LORD has made. Does this scripture in your view say God's 4th commandment in the 10 commandments has been Abolished and as are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day? Forgive me but I cannot find that in this scripture.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Selene.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.

Scripture's Purpose, as given by GOD, is to teach Man how to be reborn and filled with the ways that are eternal. To do this, GOD first tells Man how he is in the image of GOD. That image has 7 aspects: Spirit, Principle, Intellect, Soul, Life, Truth, and Love. For Man to be reborn, he must go through an uncountable number of small changes that are unified into large changes over time. Each small change results in a change in each of the 7 aspects. Man becomes what he Loves; and that is the final aspect changed. It is a time of rest to represent the reality that when we seek with a strong desire to acquire anything, we enter a state of relief, joy, and love for what we have acquired.

Now the 8th day is when Man can begin living the result of any change that has been acquired. It is also the day that a new cycle can begin. Remember that an Israelite baby was circumcised on the 8th day.

They also had the Day of Pentecost which was the 50th day, which is 7x7+1(the 8th day)=50. This denotes the concept of many small changes that result in a unified large change, which can be lived on the 50th (8th) day. This is similar to building a structure out of Legos. You can't put the second Lego in place until you have put the first in place, etc. Eventually, your structure is complete. It is also similar to a person becoming a concert pianist. The future pianist must learn the basics and keep growing in understanding until the goal is reached. These examples represent the 50th day concept. All of us have followed this procedure--probably many times in our life. We need to do the same with understanding and living the ways that are eternal.

The Sabbath Day represents a state of completed spiritual change--not a particular physical day. If anyone desires to denote a particular physical day to represent this extremely important concept, no one should frown on them for doing so.

Hello brother dstamps,

Nice to meet you and thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. I agree it is only through God's WORD alone we can find JESUS to follow him in God's appointed way. We are all sinners in need of a Saviour and it is only in God's WORD alone that we can find JESUS. We become his disciples as we CONTINUE to BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD and learn. It is God's WORD through faith that changes us. This is what the SABBATH teaches, God's WORD is God's power of creation.

God's Word however does disagree with you. Where does it say in God's WORD that God's Sabbath is not a physical day as you claim?

Yet we read in the scriptures God's WORD defining what the Sabbath is in God's 4th Commandment of the 10 commandments that give us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken *ROMANS 3:20.

EXODUS 20:10 But THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD your God:

Sorry brother God's WORD disagrees with you here.

Then indeed Col 2:16-17 is speaking of the sabbath because here you clearly say without coercion the sabbath is a holy day.

Not really brother your mix up you shadow laws from the MOSIAC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 with God's ETERNAL LAW that gives us the KNOWLEDGE of sin when broken *ROMANS 3:20

COLOSSIANS 2 is talking about the SHADOW laws in ORDINANCES from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 which are fulfilled in Christ as shown in the God's WORD in previous posts to you in posts # 472; post # 473; post # 482 and post # 483 linked. Please feel free to respond to these posts and all the scriptures in them if you disagree?

Your mixing up God's SHADOW laws in ORDINANCES with God's ETERNAL LAW (10 Commandments) which God's WORD says in the NEW COVENANT give us the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTOUESNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 and leads us to Christ that we might be forgiven by faith *GALATIANS 3:22-25; ROMANS 8:1-4. If we have no law then we have no KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is and no need of a Saviour. If we have no Saviour we are lost because we still in your sins and the wages of sin is death to all those who reject the gift of Gods dear son *ROMANS 6:23.

Hope this helps.

Valuing the rich above the poor James is saying is sin isn't one of God's commandments. Neither is this -
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James isn't promoting works of or obedience to the law.

Hello brother, you were shown in God's WORD in post # 74 linked, that SIN is defined as breaking God's LAW (10 commandments) and the scriptures provided defined their CONTEXT to God's 10 Commandments from JAMES, PAUL, and JOHN who actually quote one or more of God's 10 commandments in their definitions of breaking any one of God's 10 commandments as being SIN *JAMES 2:8-10; ROMANS 7:7; ROMANS 3:20; 1 JOHN 3:4; 12-15.

So brother this is what I am posting and why I have porvided *JAMES 2:8-10; ROMANS 7:7; ROMANS 3:20; 1 JOHN 3:4; 12-15 as proof texts. Are you agreeing with me now? Your posting is a little confusing.

Of course brother we should have no respect to showing LOVE to different people just as God's LAW has no respect to those who BREAK it. This is what JAMES 2:8-12 is talking about. You are part quoting to JAMES 2:8-9 but then ignore JAMES 2:10-11.

Let's add JAMES 2:10-11 back into the conversation because I did quote these scriptures in support to show that if we break any one of God's 10 Commandments we commit SIN.

JAMES 2:10-11 [10], For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [11] For he that said, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, said also, DO NOT KILL. Now if thou commit NO ADULTERY, yet if thou KILL, YOU ARE BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF GOD'S LAW

My answer to the OP is the same as the last several threads on the subject. The old lunar calendar that was in use during the establishment of the Sabbath does not put it either on Sunday nor Saturday (nor Friday at sundown). If you would condemn us for celebrating it on the wrong day, then you condemn yourself. I'd like to know how you think a solar calendar established by Romans just happens to coincide with the old lunar Hebrew calendar? Answer: it doesn't.
Even the Jews of today don't celebrate it on the original seventh day. As far as I know, no one does.

Hello brother nonaeroterraqueous, nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The OP here is a little different to your post did you have a chance to read it? It is asking where is the scripture that says God's 4th Commandments is Abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day. As to your post however, the calander is not really relavent to God's SEVENTH DAY weekly SABBATH commandment because it is simply every SEVENTH DAY of the weekly cycle. JESUS and the JEWS have been keeping it unbroken for 1000's of years from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset our time.

Thanks for sharing your thought brother and nice to meet you.

God bless.

the OP is a straw man so if you want me to stay on target then...

Rubbish. The OP is asking legitimate question as to the to where in All of GOD'S WORD does it say God's 4th Commandment which is one of the 10 Commandments that give us the KNOWLEDGE of SIN when broken under the NEW COVENANT *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 is abolished and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY. Do you have any scripture to share? It seems you do not.

That's is bunk. Pharaoh and Moses both knew what sin was before the law that didn't come prior to Israel's departure from Egypt.

As posted in earlier posts to you before the written WORD was the SPOKEN WORD of GOD. Happy to repost the scriptures for you if you like just let me know?

GENESIS 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

The HEBREW words used in this verse is TORAH. Let me know if you would like me to re-post the rest of the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures on the SPOKEN Word of God before Sinai.

May God bless you as you seek him through his WORD.

Let us know when you stop accusing everyone that doesn't agree with as being liars and people not having salvation.

Brother, I have not accused anyone of lieing. If you have God's WORD to share then share it. Where is the scriptures that say God's 4th commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY day. Do you have any? If you do not why do you accuse me of something I am not doing when I am only sharing God's WORD? Only God's WORD is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it over the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments fo God *ROMANS 3:4.

This is a strawman argument.
Who is claiming that the Sabbath "... has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day"?

And why don't Sabbatarians ever quote the Sabbath commandment to the Israelites from Deuteronomy? That tells us who the Sabbath is for. (the Israelites)

Deuteronomy 5:15
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

Steve, welcome back. Hope you had a nice break and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. What is the strawman argument? Why do you feel asking the questions in the OP here are a strawman argument by asking where in ALL of God's WORD are the scriptures that say God's 4th Commandment is now abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day?

For me these are legitimate questions because according to God's WORD God's 4th Commandment is one of God's 10 Commandments under the NEW COVENANT that give us the KNOWLEDGE of SIN when broken *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 and according to God's WORD if we break any one of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of SIN *JAMES 2:10-11.

Do you have any scriptures to address any of the questions in the OP? Where does it say God's 4th Commandment which is one of the 10 commandments that give us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is when broken has been ABOLSIEHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY day?

Thanks for sharing.

May God bless you as you seek him through his WORD
