  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's the weather like where you are? (10)

My heart goes out, and I pray for all who suffer with the heat!

We have a cold day today but dry and some sunshine,
my husband has gone shopping, some fresh air and a walk. :)

Mine as well.
Are houses in the UK built more for the cooler weather then the heat; like here?
We live in a well insulated wood-frame house in the country; and with a deep blanket of insulation in the attic; it is easy to heat in the winter.

But in the summer; the attic gets so hot; as there are only a few air vents in the roof and none on the ends of the gables; to let out the hot air. So it takes late in the evening for it to cool down; even with the cool evenings.
The house was built so the garage is up against one gable end; so it would take a major redesign to change.

We are in the North West of England and it seldom too hot, although it has been known. London and the South East have very hot summers.
Our house has a window in the loft roof and a window on the stairs. They provide a wonderful exit for hot air in the summer. The winter is kept outside with double glazing and a very good heating system. :)

Wed. 1/30: -4/-16 F. I have a doctor's appointment that I already changed once! And that's the only day I can buy groceries.

Thank you for the prayers, friends! I hope our parking space is near the door when we shop and that the wind isn't blowing.

It's 25F and partly cloudy here today in Central Oklahoma. The weatherman predicted a dusting of snow this week, and we got it. The same is on the agenda for next week.

I like those dustings! On Monday we're supposed to get 5-8 inches of snow! I slipped on the ice the other evening and hit the back of my head right on the edge of the concrete porch. It's a good thing I'm hard-headed. ;)

Coldest Blast in Years Heading for Midwest, Great Lakes.
Midwesterners are in for a dangerous round of bitterly cold air and extreme wind chills as January draws to a close. Temperatures are expected to bottom out from Tuesday to Thursday, hitting their coldest levels in several years in parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes. Less-extreme but still-noteworthy cold will overspread much of the nation east of the Misssissippi by midweek.

It's cold out this morning here in the PNW; not as cold as back east; 33F/1C but still cold when you mix in the damp and foggy condition:

For the Eugene area:

For right outside our door in the Cascade mt. foothills:

65bd250c-d3d5-4a36-8b5a-6395b4efa242.png

Which is from the weather underground web site. For those not familiar with this; it's from peoples personal weather stations that send reports to WU automatically every minutes--so they can be more up-to-date then the NWS.
And they have stations all across N. America; I'm not sure about the UK & OZ; but I think they have their own nets.

 They've changed Monday's forecast --- only 1-3" of snow instead of 5-8"! They also changed Wednesday's to -9/-15F. I've decided to cancel my doctor's appointment and perhaps shop on Monday evening.

My son said that his friend in southern Alaska said it was 40F there!

It's 49F and mainly cloudy here today in Central Oklahoma. It's really a nice day for this time of the year. We're supposed to get more of the same for the next several days.

I am in central Victoria and sigh when I see Melbourne (Vics capital) being 25 today, us 36:(.
I had no idea that Victoria got so hot! I assumed that it was one of the cooler parts of Australia. Your post was very informative, thank you. :) One of the reasons I started this thread was to find out what it is like in other parts of the world. I feel for you with the temperatures you are coping with now. :prayer:

Yes! Centrally heated and no air conditioning, although some shops and public buildings have it. Since about the 1930s they have been built with cavity walls, and many now have cavity wall insulation. However the older ones only have two rows of bricks, so there is no easy way of insulating the walls. I'm in a Victorian terrace, so warm either side and cold front and back! Lovely in summer though!

Prayers for those of you in extreme weather conditions hot or cold.

Here (near Manchester, UK) we are having a couple of milder days - temps upper 40s F, but snow and freezing temps are due later in the week.

We have had pleasant weather lately, but as from today the whole country is set to suffer a heatwave, as the hot air from Australia's heatwave is heading our way. As was the case for the Australians, people here in NZ have been warned not to do anything that will create sparks because of the high danger of fires round the country and to take steps to remain hydrated and as cool as possible.

Yes it can be fairly warm on the lower coast of Alaska.
I was wondering how it compared with here; so I took a look:
