  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Viral Video Shows MAGA Hat-Wearing Teens Harassing Native American Vietnam Veteran

>> One teen, in particular, is seen blocking Philips, smugly staring at the elder as he performs his song. Teens in the background appear to encourage the harassment. <<

>> Tom Lilly told the Owensboro Times the student seen wearing his school shirt made a “flippant remark” when he talked about land being stolen.

“Was that comment any more than a cynical remark? I hate for a kid to have made a flippant remark and get lumped in with Covington Catholic,” Lilly told the publication. “If the kid hadn’t had an Owensboro sweatshirt on it wouldn’t be an issue, but he did. He’s a good kid and I hate this.” <<

No Tom, he's not a good kid.

I wonder if Brietbart, Daily Caller, etc. will be reporting on this.

I haven't read the actual story or watched the video, but the commentary from those who have said they were from a Christian school also.

>> Users on social media identified the teens as likely being students from Covington Catholic school in Kentucky because of the insignia on some of their clothing. Laura Keener, the communications director with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington, released a statement on Saturday saying they were looking into the incident. <<

Here's the video.

>> The contrast between the calm dignity and quiet strength of Mr. Phillips and the behavior of #MAGA brats who have absorbed the spirit of Trumpism--this spectacle is a lesson which all Americans can learn. <<

Is anybody else quite honestly sick of hearing these things paraded up by the media?

Yeah, there's a problem of arrogance among Trump supporters - but let's be honest.

There's a clear narrative within the media that it's not that these arrogant Trump supporters subsist withinin Trump's total fanbase - the narrative is that Trump is, in essence, what these arrogant Trump supporters are.

By supporting Trump in any way whatsoever, by choosing any ideological strains of thought that you agree with with Trump, you are part of the problem. You are Trump, you are these people, you are all of these. This is "Trump's America."

If you think that the media is right in it's equivocation of Trump and his fanbase and these select supporters, screw off. My mother who voted for Trump would never act like this. You are no better than the McCarthyists who felt anybody who shared Liberal perspectives was a Communist, or the KKK, where blacks committing crimes was the very essence of being black. Using continuum fallacies to broadly generalize entire groups of people. Why don't we just build houses of sticks, considering that some sticks are heavier than bricks?

What about some actual problems of Neo-Nazism? What about studying how Neo Nazi groups have been marketing towards people? What about problems of real racism? What about the violence and abuse African American youth withstand on a day to day basis? What about actual corruption of finances, mafia, sexual abuse?

Let's just focus on some stupid kids. That'll solve the real problems of our country.

The media has become a banal virtual-signaling machine, where real investigative journalism is thrown out the window, but journalists can follow some tweets, report it, and show off how morally virtuous they are, even though these Puritans will be the laughing stock of history.

lemme sum up your entire long word diarrhea in a couple of short sentences.
"ohmagerd whites were caught acting like monsters. how am i to go on with my life when this is a black stain upon me and mine. i know i'll blame the media instead of the monsters in the video. there all better."

No, it's not.

I never said that these kids are in the right; I'm just sick of the media playing up these instances for the sole purpose of pushing a narrative that "this is Trump's America" and "if you support Trump, you support this", rather than any actual investigative journalism.

That's why these really easy hanging fruits are so heavily reported by the media. I think there's more serious problems in society than a couple of high schoolers, but the media won't report on these issues because they won't be able to virtue-signal how anti-Trump they are. And it actually takes effort and time and integrity to do so, something which the media won't do.

You know what's more monstrous than this? Culturally appropriating Cherokee culture in order to advance a Legal and Political career. But I guess that won't bother you, because the basis of your principles are hostility to Trump rather than any genuine care for the Native Americans and how they are treated.

Context is that the Native Americans decided to walk into the school kids to try and intimidate them. Instead, these kids weren't at all intimidated by the Native Americans, and stood their ground and openly mocked them. I wouldn't expect anything less from trying to push through a high-spirited crowd of teenaged boys.

In a way, it's a win-win situation for liberal media to spin. The Native Americans appear as the victims of the mob mentality, playing on the heartstrings of the gullible.

I don't see any Trump bashing here. But the irony is that a lot of these kids were wearing MAGA caps when by their actions they were actually doing the opposite.

As if the MAGA caps don't have any significance to the actual report and the message of it?

Once again, I don't condone such actions. But there's clearly a motif and a message; I doubt there would be as much coverage if there was no MAGA hat.

If the teens weren't wearing MAGA hats, I'm very doubtful that the media would have picked it up, and I'm even more doubtful that it would have been posted here. Don't say "this isn't about Trump" when what you want us to take away from this is "Trump supporters harass minority". It's disingenuous.

I am not surprised by this behavior, but they are emulating what they see at home and at the rallies of the politician they idolize.

This response verifies my claim that this article is all about politics.

i've seen many report over the years (going back to the early 2000's when i remember seeing the first such incident) concerning bigotry directed by teenagers towards native americans. chats of "go back to the rez" have popped up many a time. so you're entire argument is based on a fallacy. so in other words try harder next time chap.

It is behavior they learned at home. Racism is taught at home and children will emulate their parents' racist behaviors against minorities. And like you, I'm not surprised by this behavior either.
