  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No Compromise at the Border.

I know, and it isn't true.

So when people post lists of actual reasons from conservative sources saying the wall isn't the answer you feel that just ex cathedra claims on your part are a compelling response?

Why don't we build a good fence and find out. Let's see if those who don't think fences work can get through one with armed guards staring at them from the other side.

Better yet why don't we amass an army of Sasquatch, give them nightvision goggles and military training and make them stand arm-in-arm as a giant wall along the southern border? That seems as reasonable. Sure it's expensive and really hard and largely imaginary, but you have to admit it would work BETTER.

Com'on man.

Hmmm, let's count the ways:

1. Trump already expressed admiration for President Xi's move to be president for life.

Trump Praises Xi as China's 'President for Life,' Says U.S. May Give It 'A Shot Someday'

2. Trump expressed envy for how the Kims are treated by North Koreans

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/6/15/17467644/trump-kim-summit-fox-news

This isn't even getting into the number of times Trump has attacked pretty much every single American value (free press, rule of law, etc.)

So I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance Trump wants to be President for Life Dear Leader Donald.

Why not. Obama did it many times, and not a single democrat objected.
Many times????

The claims were unfounded on both points. The 2013 shutdown was primarily advanced by Cruz, as recounted by fellow Republicans in the intervening years, and the 2013 shutdown was an effort to defund an existing law, not an attempt by President Barack Obama to pass a law that already existed at the time of that shutdown

Once Trump seizes power, what makes you think he would allow one to be held? A fair election would be impossible, anyway, with Trump in control of the media and with free powers of arrest. You think that's fantastic? Maybe so, but with Trump's declaration of a National Emergency there would be nothing in the law or in his character to prevent it.

Let’s build it and find out is not policy either. As has been posted many times, there are legitimate proposals to secure the border including those that don’t involve 2000 miles of fence/wall/whatever the latest iteration is.

You still haven’t shown me any Democrat leaders who support open borders (I am going to keep reminding you of this request).

Overstays came in legally, then remained here illegally. Different problem needing a different solution.

So, if illegal immigration is a “crisis” (as Teump claims) and more than half of illegal immigrants overstay visas, why hasn’t Trump come up with a plan for that? Why are we focusing on the less than half who come across the border?

Because they're poor, brown, don't speak English and are largely Roman Catholic.

Nothing's stopping anyone from asking Mexico to fork over the money Trump promised they'd pay for the wall. Seems like a simple solution to a simple problem.

Or was that simplistic. I can never remember the difference.

It's still no clear what "crisis" the President is attempting to resolve.

Thousands of Central American families presenting themselves at a port of entry will not be solved by installing steel fences in the remote areas of the desert.

That all seems pretty ridiculous.

Night vision goggles. Why didn't I think of that.

Maybe he wants to stop what's on the horizon. Like the Boy Scouts used to say, "Be Prepared".
