I agree that the bible is truth, and if we get 'lost' or unsure on some matter we should go there, the problem is when the bible say nothing about it or is unclear that it says something.

This reminds me of:
'If someone lacks wisdom, ask God, who will give abundantly, but ask with faith etc.'
My point back to you is that The Holy Spirit will lead us and we will grow in wisdom. This wisdom should not contradict what is already revealed by God in His written Word.

Can you speak of a wisdom from God which the Scriptures do not address?

Maybe i don't understand well what sola scriptura is but,
I think sola scriptura fails, when we need to know something in a matter the bible doesn't talk about, there is other ways of knowing from God, like experience, or the guidance of the Holy spirit.
Also if you have only biblical knowledge of God but have not experienced anything from Him your knowledge is very limited.
Yet any extra biblical knowledge and/or revelation must be based on the truth in or of scripture, like Jesus had done/is ect...

That's how we test the inspired expression, to see if it is really a divinely inspired expression and/or interpretation and/or revelation...

Most of Jesus words and his apostles words were "new" and seemed different from the OT, but when we test them, we find out they are not...

It is the same with everything else that might be a divinely inspired expression and/or revelation...

We have to see and make sure it lines up with the truth or the foundational truths in/and from scripture...

God Bless!

What i replied earlier, not sure if it is a wisdom, but useful. And a lot of christians are very unsure on this matter, is not so obvious what the bible says about it if it says any.

Not really, "No" really...

Though it may "appear" that the scriptures do not "directly address some specific or certain kind of thing" sometimes (about some of the things we have today) when it actually does, but you have to look close into scriptures and "dig" for it sometimes, cause it's not so obvious at times...

God Bless!

Now, while there may be other books, letters, or epistles mentioned in Scripture that we don't have currently, they are not a part of the cannon of God's Word today

Wait....Aren't you automatically appealing to an authority OUTSIDE of Scripture to reveal to you which books, letters, and epistles belong in the Canon and which do not?

Seems to me Sola Scriptura is an oxymoron.

We were discussing wisdom.

Well, a knoweldge man or 'wise' man should know that, but what we get with people who talks against it, talks of more of points with acquired knowledge and some other points that are not in the bible!, like a teaching of some sort.

If God gives you wisdom for you in a particular situation in you life, personal matters or something you could do etc, then that is wisdom from God, that you could not get with the bible.

Wisdom is knowledge that is correct...

Post #30 is wisdom, because is knowledge and good judgement.

God giving you some sort of direction in your life about something can be something you are not going to get reading the bible!, what we need to do is not always in the bible. Specially about personal matters.

You mean an outside authority from the Holy Spirit inspired Scriptures is needed to authorize?

Or is it the other way. That men knowing the divine attributes and authoritative nature of Scriptures recognized such?

As did men and women recognizing an itinerant Rabbi who taught in opposition to the then sitting Magisterium.

I'd say we got it/get it "because of the Bible", but that may just be me...

I think "everything we have now, or can even get now", is because of the Bible and what Jesus and his apostles, and His servants through the ages, all the way to today, did for us/does for us, because of and starting with Jesus Christ, and what (all) He did for us shown in and by the Bible, ect...

Where would the world be today with what Jesus (His apostles/servants, ect) did, do today, ect, and/or because of and by the Bible...?

I shudder to think what the world would be like today, and where the world would have gone (the course it would have took) (or will take in the future without it and God, ect) (If certain ones succeed in that agenda to eliminate it/Him/Them) Anyway, I shudder to think what the world would be like today, and where the world would have gone without Jesus Christ and God and the Bible or Scriptures...

We owe it and Him/Them (God) not only our lives, but "everything else", we owe it all to Him/Them and the Scriptures being recorded and or written (down) for us...

God Bless!

We were discussing wisdom.

You think all wisdom is in the bible, and you can't get anymore from God because everything is there? pfft.

I still don't think i fully understand what sola scriptura is, i confess i did not study it well, but at simple eye, there is important stuff, specially regarding what God wants for us to do in our life, we can't get in the bible. Things not related to sins or doctrine, but are very vital for us to know. Gods plan for you etc.

I didn’t say that. I was looking for an example.

You could have given me a mundane example like jury duty. We would usually pray for wisdom to properly and fairly decide. Yet the Scriptures already tell us to be honest and not show favoritism. So we enter jury duty with that wisdom from Scriptures even though the Scriptures don’t directly give us wisdom in a tax evasion case other than we pay our taxes.

I. All Scripture is Profitable for Doctrine, Correction, Righteous Teaching.
A. All Scripture is profitable:

II. Do Not Add or Take Away or Go Beyond What is Written:
A. Do Not Add or Take Away From God's Word:
B. Warning Against Altering God's Word is Confirmed in Old Testament:
C. Do Not Go Above What is Written on how we think about men:
I don't see how these disparate, disconnected ideas "defend" the man-made doctrine of Sola Scriptura. Section I affirms the value of Sacred Scripture (which I don't think anybody is arguing against) and Section II warns against doing a bunch of stuff that generally nobody is doing.

It's interesting because Sola Scriptura is allegedly this bulletproof, unassailably obvious doctrine and yet nobody can find a passage from Sacred Scripture saying words to the effect of "Sacred Scripture is the only source the faithful should use".

Typically, adherents of Sola Scriptura write War & Peace-length posts replete with flow charts and faulty logic arguing in circles about how wonderful Sacred Scripture is (which nobody questions) but never a decisive quote from Sacred Scripture (which the great majority of the Christian world questions).
