Why do you support your political party?
I an unaffiliated/Independent voter because I feel free to vote for the person that I think will do the best job. Sometimes that means neither one.

I used to be a solid Republican for fetal rights and a perceived Biblical work ethic (in spite of years of unemployment and under-employment). Given mine and my children's diagnosed disabilities, and a recession that plowed under many who were successful in the middle-class, I have become disillusioned with strict, Darwinian capitalism.

I currently believe in, primarily, capitalism, augmented by a minimalist system of socialism. GMI looks good to me, if minimal enough.

We still vote for fetal rights, but will consider pro-life Democrats and have no love for pro-[death] Republicans.

Continued gender segregation in public restrooms and locker rooms is also high on our list of priorities.

Pro death republicans?
Individual Republicans who don't uphold fetal rights. There are individual Democrats that do. They both go against their party's platform on that issue.

I am a registered republican now only because the republican party at least in theory allows for the possibility of a pro-life and pro-family platform. I have a hierarchy of issues that concern me but the two non-negotiables are:
1. The defence of life from conception to natural death and all states in between.
2. The defence and strengthening through policy of the traditional family as defined by Christ. That is marriage of one man and one woman for a lifetime.

If a candidate can affirm these two positions regardless of party I will at least consider voting for them.

To avoid ambiguity, I have coined the term "Edenic" marriage. ("Orthogamy" vs. "Pseudogamy" works, too, but it is a little more confrontational in some circles.)

Because as a Christian, the GOP is willing to tolerate the life and mission Jesus called us to. The Democrat party is not.

So as soon as the republicans got control of all three branches of govenment, they outlawed abortion?

Why do you support your political party?
Back in the 70' and early 80's I was Republican but as I got more into my Union job it became clear that Republicans we're not for the working man or middle class. Reaganomics killed us and did nothing for the middle or lower class workers. Since then, I have been a Democrat. Our contracts we're about 33% better while the Democrat President appointed arbiter decided our contracts as opposed to when Republicans did.

Thanks for the re. I worked in a non union shop that was beside a shop that did have a union. The union shop had less safety equipment while the non union shop had plenty of safety gear. The only good that union did was to help you get your job back if you got fired, but even that wasn't anything different than the non union shop because the non union shop hired and fired me three times. So i didn't need a union at all.

Was there any big gaps?
What do you mean? Gaps between hiring and firing? Usually about 6 months later they would hire me again. I should point out however that they didnt need me to work there again, i was fired for good reason. The main point however is that it was better working in the non union shop. I should note that i worked in the union shop too, and the non union shop was a better place to work.

There are always good and bad unions and employers. My experience was speaking of how the Republican administrations reacted with Unions.

I was the President of a Railroad Local. We dealt on a National level and the government controlled much of the negotiations. When an impasse could not be settled the President of the US appointed an arbitrator to decide who got what. We lost about $10,000 per year because of Reagan and Daddy Bush.
