  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I guess there won't be a wall after all.

They need to pass a law that says ALL employers MUST use e-verify.
I agree and would love to see that. However as with abortion its simply not in their interests to make effective legislation as then they can no longer get any milage out of the issue.

One can only hope. Or perhaps he will build a fence instead. You can build a pretty long fence with a billion dollars. And it would be recyclable.

Or...perhaps Trump and his cronies can put in the research into the issue of illegal immigration, and realize that the majority are visa overstays (meaning, a wall would be rather pointless).

Being that visa overstays are people who are entering legally, but just failing to go back on the agreed upon date...not sure what building the wall is going to do (is he trying to keep them in????)

What planet have you been living on? :)

I live just a couple miles from the border and the wall has been going up for over a year. They have completed a couple miles of it on either side of the port of entry.

$1.6 billion had already been funded by the House.

New Wall -

The planet where there was never going to be a wall that stretched the southern border. That there have been updates to already existing impediments is not what was promised.

Oh, you mean more of the type of fencing that already existed during previous administrations?
Although they are building it higher and putting 3 or 4 ft. of solid metal sheets along the top. Have you seen the photos of men climbing over it?

I think we might be dealing with two classes of people; those with needed skills, and those who can only offer unskilled labor. It is the 'desperate' (read 'losers') that sneak in. One must have a needed skill to get a work visa. They also go through a background check. None of this applies to border crashers.

ICE/CBP caught 50,000+ illegally cross our borders every month for the last 3 months. And they admit they only catch about 10-15% of those crossing our borders every month.

How much private property do you want the feds to take?
Most of the property is already owned by the government. Much of it is protected bird sanctuaries and wetlands, which create another problem for the right-of-way.

Well, since the House has the power of the purse, as it were, Donald could theoretically get his wall... if he can actually get Mexico to pay for it.

But then, he'd be keeping a promise. And you know, he never keeps his promises. He'll renege on this one, just like the rest.

Nope. Very little federal land in Texas, and the land that is federal, as you suggest, is mostly areas that can't legally be damaged.

Unlike federal lands in most of the west, which were purchased by our tax dollars, Texas land was purchased by the blood of Texans.

I would try to respond to that if it made any sense at all, but . . .
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers used to wear just one sock - over their "special" parts. And Chilli's are sort of a Mexican food group. So it all comes full circle.

Make sense now?

Glad you appreciate the skills of the people that pick the fruit and vegetables you buy at your local market.

...it's on a downward trend.

...and, as I noted before, the majority of the issue is from visa overstays. So a wall is just an overpriced virtue signal to pander to a certain crowd.

Taking half the money allotted for the wall, and putting up structures, only in key areas, and hiring additional border agents would be a smarter usage of funds.

I'm not sure why "the wall" appeals to so many other than it being some sort of brazen "in your face" republican symbolism.
