  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I guess there won't be a wall after all.

That is like saying I have the right pursue becoming a doctor while being denied entry to medical school.
Well, you do have the right to pursue becoming a doctor. But that doesn't mean a medical school has to grant you acceptance if you don't meet the qualifications.

When I was younger I wanted to be a basketball player. Should the Knicks be forced to draft me even though I have the coordination of a fainting goat at a fireworks festival?

That was not my point.

Your interpretation robs the notion of pursuing happiness of any real meaning. If some law or principle confers the right for people of all colours to “pursue happiness” this surely MUST imply that there are no race-based impediments to that pursuit!

I agree that there are race-based impediments to certain pursuits. I recommend a different pursuit in those cases. For example real estate investing is open to all ethnicities. Great income, security, freedom from bosses and schedules, and racism.

It seems like you are endorsing the right for all to pursue a goal, on the one hand, while refusing to provide access to the MEANS.

Who exactly is supposed to provide access to what goals?

That is like saying I have the right pursue becoming a doctor while being denied entry to medical school.

Perhaps you don't qualify for medical school.

Interesting that you went right for one of the most difficult professions as your example. I'm very successful and happy in a low skill job that doesn't even require a high school education. (However I do have a HS education). :D
