Thank you - I didn't realize that since he's not (yet?) part of the list of those commemorated. I just (finally!) got one of his books recently but have only read the opening so far, since I need to finish preparing something for our parish that involves me reading several other books.

tread lightly with that one. it's a great work, but too many folks overly literalize it, even though Fr Seraphim warns against doing that.

I suggest reading his biography, if you're in for a 1100-page read. It's glorious.

My priest is not a fan of his at ALL, and I know a few others who don't like him. I read his Genesis book (Hiermonk Damascene) and the Soul After Death book. I find him fascinating and helpful. Why he is so controversial is beyond me. He epitomizes historical, rational, solid Orthodoxy with the ability to write like a monk that appeals to the laity.

I hope I've heard enough by now to be able to understand it rightly.

I know the whole Theodora thing messed me up for about two months when I stumbled across it very early on.

Well it has indeed taken me a while. I finally finished it yesterday. With copious underlining and notes in the margins lol. I would like to start a thread to discuss it in fact. I think it's an outstanding work, but wasn't exactly what I expected.
