Hello, I'm wondering how DMT use has interacted with Christianity. Has anyone ever used it? What did you learn about yourself. What does God think about this substance? DMT is a psychedelic drug that is said to be the most powerful experience ever induced when ingested. I have no interest in using it myself.

Illegal Drug use is a sin, that is all that is needed to be said.

Its not needed, people already suffering from escapism from their thoughts alone.

Psychotropic drugs merely disrupt the natural processes and homeostasis. It induces the states by destruction of functioning - less of an enhancer than a short circuit. Even if minute amounts come naturally in the brain - any subtance that is present in excess is harmful. The body maintains a careful balance of everything. There are endogenous opioids too, so do you think an overdose of heroin is thus fine for human functioning? In too large amounts, even vitamins and minerals become poisons.

I administer dissociative drugs and psycho-active drugs daily, like Ketamine. They just give gobbledygook.

Don't get me wrong, mind altering drugs certainly have a place in your walk with Jesus. I am of course, talking about drinking a cup of coffee or tea after Church, here.

Since what you experience from psychedelic drug use is totally illusion, what could you possibly "learn" about yourself from it?

That the world is not necessarily as it appears to our everyday consciousness, but that the most mundane and ordinary things, such as a crease in a piece of fabric, will appear of an astonishing, captivating beauty, quite other-worldly... yet this world in which we lead our everyday lives ; this world that indeed God 'found good'.

I don't need that kind of enhancement now, but though baulking at taking simple marijuana, since it didn't seem to give an insight into the world at a deeper level, I would have loved to sample mescalin/LSD under laboratory conditions from essays I had read by Aldous Huxley : The Doors Perception : Heaven and Hell. Also, the video-clips below are illuminating, particularly for atheists/materialists who think that what we see with our normal vision is all there is :

Here is a more frivolous one, with an example of the danger such drugs can pose for some people, and anyone, in excessive dosage (Huxley remarked that it was viewed as a possible aid to combat schizophrenia. I don't know how that has panned out) :

There are other Utube clips on the subject at the right of my page, at those websites that I haven't yet seen, including one specifically on the first DMT experiment.

Yes. It has been posited (I think by the philospher, Bergsen) that the brain, through which our worldly intelligence (all there is, in the view of atheists) normally operates, seems to be a reducing valve for our survival in time. Without it, we would be in a permanent kind of Beatific Vision, like the Lotus Eaters. Aldous Huxley speaks about it, I believe, in either Heaven or Hell or The Perennial Philosophy.

That is a lot of metaphysics to presume though. I think the safer bet would be to go the long hard slog of meditative and contemplative techniques, if one wants to experience a beatific vision. There the brain is not disordered and such. As someone once remarked, there is a difference between swimming and drowning, though they might often appear similar to an observer.

I hear this substance is produced naturally in the body....
I hear a lot of people say that too. I've heard none of them point to any laboratory documentation that directly shows that.

What I will say is Tryptamine is found in numerous mammals however nothing I have found shows that N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (aka DMT) is naturally occurring in your body.

I have found more reports of it in the body than of it's production outside of it. It all depends on what you are seeking. I am not for or against DMT utilization, so there is no real reason for me to try and prove these claims. Believing or not believing are of no consequence to me.

I know one person who said they had a powerful experience with Jesus when they were high off pot one time, and they are saying it wasn't the pot doing it. I mainly think it's an excuse people use to try to justify wanting to get high.

Meditation is a much cheaper, safer, and legal way to engage in self-exploration.

Psychedelic drugs might have legitimate uses in psychotherapy in a clinical setting, but that's different from recreational usage or use as an "entheogen".

I had an interesting trip from ketamine years ago when I got a colonoscopy, but it left me with random panic attacks for weeks and I had motion sickness in cars for the first time in my life.

Interesting. Well since God created us, it would make sense that he would implant a means of communication. When I researched DMT, they said that it was present in almost all animals and plants, and seemed to be a communication chemical on a level we do not understand yet. I don't have any problem in believing that maybe that is how God speaks to animals/plants, and even us--when HE decides to do so. For instance, he used birds to bring food to the prophets, Jesus cursed the tree and it died.

However, the use of DMT to increase this chemical does not force God to communicate with us. The accounts of people experiencing this high, seem to be more "self" awareness...to see themselves as "god" sees them. But they never mentioned sin, Jesus or even unworthiness.

I firmly believe the JESUS is the way to the father. all other means of accessing God or anything spiritual are counterfeits and may lead somewhere...but not to the Father. If this was a means by which we could better access God circumventing Jesus, one might read about the building of the tower of Babel to see a similar scenario.

This suggestion sounds like someone sticking a knife into a receptacle because they’re having trouble finding their inner chi in yoga so they wanna give it a little push. Drugs to jump start a Christian experience??

Getting heaven into your head is no substitute for getting your head into heaven, is another way of putting it.

Incidentally, the association of the brain even with our intelligence is by no means as 'cut and dried' as was thought. Some individuals born with only a very small part of their brain are virtually fully functional. This article, below, reports on research that suggests that the brain acts as a kind of receiver, as in a radio or TV, picking up locally-ambient thoughts/waves that linger for a while, after a person's death or near-death.

I first heard about DMT from a Joe Rogan podcast on it. I dont know how much of the stuff that was said was verifiable true but from what i got it is apparent that our brain a complex senses analyzer system that uses these chemicals in some way say maybe for dreaming/visualization ect. what some of these powerful psychedelic drugs can do is tune the channel if you will to "static" from where things can get weird. I dont recommend using this stuff I remember hearing a report about a teenage girl who read the bible while high on drugs because "it made her feel closer to god" and then gouged out her eyes in a church, she thought the world was ending.
