It seems to me that if you want to facepalm a post, then you should ask yourself why, and how do I respond in a meaningful way, that helps someone see a better response. Sometime back someone responded to a post of mine with the word 'facepalm' and the 'doh' icon.

I was a bit flummoxed but ultimately wrote a response explaining what I had contended in the post and why I believed it was a correct response. Sometimes we need more Barnabas (child of encouragement) than we need contemporary dismissiveness.

I have wondered once of twice if there might not be a 'heterodox opinion' icon for response, but I suspect I may have wandered into the sin of gross overuse if there was one, and realistically you have to either ignore it, or confront it rationally with 'orthodox opinion'.

I would never use it to insult a person.

This is the issue. you cant control what others feel. only they control that. you put a picture up, with whatever intention.....they look at it, and whatever spirit is in them rises up. you dont know what is in them, so you dont know what will come out.

And most people believe that their anger and hurt is caused by someone else....when they themselves have full control of their thoughts and emotions and have to choose between all of them.....or none of them..

That being said...we might have to dwell in complete silence. Anything more...even a picture of a funny looking head that smacks itself, can cause great offense to someone. I aim to be no one.

I dont see how a facepalm is graceful at all.

I would use it if I made an error. e.g. "oops, thought I was posting in the christian vegetarian section"

In all honesty, anything - and I mean anything - can be misconstrued, used against you, and used for ill. This is why I make it a point to check myself before ever using a rating system. There has been a few times I had to retract from using it because I read something wrong - which happens a lot on forums.

I have no idea why you would say that....but You are probably right. Even though I sometimes rewrite posts 3 and 4 times before posting, to remove things that anyone can find offensive...I am still a report away from being banned. So it would be wise to cherish all my good wisdom now.....cause tomorrow is not promised for me.........

I've received warnings for flamming myself before......someone thought I was talking about someone else even though i Used "I" and "me" But I was telling the truth. I take is as a lesson never to write anything negative about yourself either, even if it is past events. This is good practice....lesson learned.

Just the prevalence of comments for vegetarian stereotypes incurs greater likelihood that it is carnivore mocking vegetarians. I thought you said you didn't realise you were posting in the vegetarian section (more likely for the joke of a facepalm).

Someone has to permit it to be misused. They make that judgement. Too many unrighteous judges these days, people are accustomed to injustice. "When the wicked rise to power, people hide, but when the righteous triumph the people rejoice". Proverbs..

Another one: by righteousness the king brings stability to a land, but receiving bribes brings it to ruin.

In this context, the argument is being made that it is better to have sinners in our midst not armed to cause conflict on the chance that they might repent (that is greed, accepting a bribe), whereas if they misuse the tool and are uprooted, righteousness will bring stability. Food for thought, for leaders.

I thought you said you didn't realise you were posting in the vegetarian section (more likely for the joke of a facepalm).

Actually, I thought it was clear that I was saying that I was a vegetarian and posted a vegetarian question/comment on a non-vegetarian part of the site.....and the face palm was to acknowledge a silly mistake that I made....
And there are some who would just hit report and not even think that I never knew that the comment could be considered offensive to anyone.

I'd normally say that sounds very strange, but then again I've received warnings for flaming people and when I went back and looked at what I said, it seemed obvious to me that I hadn't flamed anyone. I've come to the conclusion that if someone wants to report you badly enough (which can easily happen in a debate-type thread), then they will, and a moderator may see it as questionable enough to go ahead and issue a warning. I've heard warnings can be challenged. I learned that after I had been banned once.
