  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What did you think of that meeting with Trump and Putin?

So Trump is personally keeping you informed. Lucky you.

The rest of us have to judge him on his actions, and so far it's been one dumpster fire after another, with Trump continuously kowtowing to Putin.

This makes no sense.

Neither does this.

OK, someone at Wal-Mart has told you you need to take a shower, but what does this have to with "engendering feelings of patriotism?"

The lesson that they should take a shower before going to Wal-Mart? How is that "Elitism?" I regard it as a common courtesy.

Alright so we're going play Internet Games where things that make sense, don't. Not interested.

Yeah, I prefer to play "Internet Games" where things make sense. Although reading the posts of people who make irrational hyperbolic statements is pretty funny.

That doesn't make sense to you? As in you cannot understand it's meaning--it's nonsensical? Or what?

That Trump committed Treason.
That's OK. His base will still back him--they care more about abortion and gay marriage than they do about treason.

How easily people will stick in a word like that without any concern for its accuracy. :(

Agreed. As is the case with "collusion", folks don't know the legal definition of "treason". To be an ally of Russia is not the same as committing treason.

True, but that's a more refined way of looking at the issue than we need to take. When someone flatly accuses the president of the Unite States of treason for NOT criticizing the head of another state OR because he does criticize his own intelligence services, the speaker is not simply being careless with the word. Rather, it is a purposeful attempt to shock and insult by using whatever word might seem to have the most impact. They've already tried out Nazi, racist, child molester, dictator, warmonger, and a few others of that sort, so this is the latest, that's all.

It's really simple if you read the actual Constitution.

the actual Constitution said:
adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.
Which Trump did in front of the entire world. So it's a safe bet we have the two required witnesses.

Wrong. Putin is an enemy and at least Trump knows it.

Trump treats our ALLIES like enemies and our enemies like allies.

He openly antagonizes Canada, Germany and even the UK's leadership. Yet he won't back the US Intel services over his trust in Putin.

If Trump knows Putin is an enemy then God help us.

The Deep State is also an enemy, most of us know it, Trump does too, but the Left is whining that we're not "patriots" if we don't acknowledge this.

Also...rabid unicorns. They are the REAL threat to America. Better watch out for those too. They can become invisible, just like the Deep State!

Too bad, so sad. People who say they can smell us in Wal-Mart do not engender feelings of patriotism, and it's time liberals learn those lessons. Elitism has cost liberals badly.

Is that why you guys voted for elites all the time? Trump is about as elite as they get. The child of wealth, bought his way into the Manhattan Real Estate Market with Daddy's money, went to a tony Ivy League school on the East Coast.

In fact almost all of the staunch conservative Right are elites. Ted Cruz is another great example. A Harvard grad who is probably a lot more terrifyingly intellectual than an of his base even know about. He once wrote a legal research paper making extensive use of mathematical modeling.

So next time you decry "elitism", just remember, those are the folks YOU GUYS ON THE RIGHT are voting for. They just know that they have to hide it from you.

Who is being played now? :)

On the other hand, those countries seem to be easily antagonized. For example, the mere suggestion that the EU countries should pay, for their defense, what they long ago agreed to pay but have not, causes them to feel insulted.

We have the Trump we elected. He opposes our European allies, calling the EU a foe. He is friends with Russia leaders and oligarchs. Trump refuses to criticize the man who tried so hard to help him in the campaign. Trump has yet to call even one meeting on the subject of acting against Russia's cyber threat to the US. Trump's foreign policy (tariffs, policies toward Europe, and Russia policy) is (as when he campaigned) opposed by the all of the Senate (well at least 95%) and most of the House. The entire intelligence community and almost all of those who are part of his administration oppose hi foreign policy views, and increasingly say so out loud (just before they get fired or quit).

However, Trump does NOT stand alone. He has his state media (FOX). Trump has those on his side who will support him no matter what he does. This includes the evangelical right.
==============
As so many have said in the last 24 hours or so, much depends on the Senate Republicans and on the electorate in November.
