  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry, but what does Antifa have to do with anything?

They're how certain groups rationalize voting for someone who openly supports white supremacist groups. I mean sure, one side is literally neo-Nazis and KKK members, but the other side wears masks, so it all balances out and I'm not really supporting a White Nationalist political party.

No sir. I'm saying that the statement he made "there are some very fine people on both sides" was inclusive of both the alt-left and alt-right. Or I may ask you, what do you think he meant by "both sides?"

In this case, it was a right-wing white power group marching and the people who disagree with their political stances. Oh, and who disagree with them running over people who don't share their views.

Trump's election--especially in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan--should have been evidence enough. Now you have Summer Madness in this very thread saying friends on Facebook are walking away. If that happens in the black community, it's devastating for Democrats. I don't know how it can be disputed.

Trump's election doesn't necessarily mean people have changed political parties, it could just mean that more Republicans came out to vote.

I really don't understand where Liza B is coming from . I see new Democrat faces on TV giving interviews and running as candidates and none of them look like the Antifa types. They look like rational human beings not wedding to a religious-political agenda of resentment.

Michelle Obama has spoken out against Democrats reacting with "low" tactics. So has Nanci Pelosi. The Democrat establishment isn't in favor of the sort of tactics that the right has taken to for the last two years, of personal demonization and name calling. There hasn't been a groundswell of political revolution on the left. At least not yet.

When did I turn on Summer? My comment was about Liza B dropping the old, "I know a black person that's one of the good ones" line, we hear so often from the right.

No. The point is why does it always come down to race? Have you ever considered we see an individual that has a history of being liberal right here on CF, not a black person? Why is your mindset always about race?

You have seen me step right down the throats of individuals that get racist. I do not tolerate it.You have seen me step right down the throat of Summer as well. If you haven't noticed we do not always agree. So when Summer agrees with a point I made, yeah, I tend to notice. It has nothing, zero, to do with race Mr Tolerant Liberal.

You want to talk about lack of diversity of opinion on the left but the right only cares for black people who think like they do. Don't think people can't see right through this nonsense.

Pfff.. that is utter nonsense. I absolutely cannot STAND Summers stance on BLM. Or the constant race issue, after race issue, after race issue, after race issue, after race issue, Summer continually seems to bring up ad-nauseam, But as individual SM has the right to not only hold their belief, Summer has the right to speak it. This is not the first time I have stated this point either.

Nice to see people thinking for themselves. Although I hope people don't go too far "throwing the baby out with the bath water". You can still be a democrat and left leaning while strongly disagreeing with others who adopt similar labels.

And yeah, the right certainly has reasons to have their own walkout movement.

Isn't that current position of the Republican party, as stated by their leader? I'm quite sure it was Trump who said he "loves the poorly educated", and for good reason.

It appears both parties appeal, to use your words, to the "dumb". If true, doesn't that say more about the USA as a whole than anything else?

Or perhaps it's a statement about democracy in general.

People who vote Democratic and don't go out to punch Nazis or engage in riots or try to shut down free speech they don't like.

There's a few of us like that.

Lol I know there's people out there...I was talking about representatives though.

My friends that have walked away have said they feel the left has betrayed their values and felt it was no longer a party they could support. It's odd, but they say they admire Trump because they think his words match his values and he really fights for the common man. I try to argue that's not true, but they say the craziness on the left just makes them not want to be part of this mummer's farce.

These posts are the reason so, so many liberals are walking away. Really, that's what they're telling us.

All this "KKK, Nazi" stuff. Just a new way to call everyone who disagrees with you -ist, -ist and -ist. But it's creating so many ex-liberals, as Summer Madness has witnessed. So really keep it up.

The stories I know personally and I'm reading and hearing on #WalkAway are almost always ones of surprised welcome too from the "other side". Are there racists, bigots and homophobes on the Right? Absolutely, you bet. But the Left has so blinded folks into believing we're all a bunch of mask-wearing KKK members (imagine me rolling my eyes over here) that people are almost stunned to discover that's a lie. It's just a lie.

Are there cultural differences? Of course. I don't know what it's like to be black, Asian, Latino. Or a man, for that matter. But the Right is a LOT more accepting than ex-liberals thought. What we more commonly hear is a LOT of nasty blowback from their former friends. Really nasty blowback too.

I don't know what to say. When you're claiming one side has all the rationality and the other side has none? All I can say at that point, and I don't mean this as a personal knock but at that point, check your own rational thinking on the issue.

I can't say any more--it would be pointless. *shrug*

The friends on the left that walked started asking questions like, "Do black lives really matter? Why don't they act like it?" They've also been pushing back against a lot of these stories with #LivingWhileBlack because they feel a lot of them are part of a setup. A few of my black walk away friends have talked about leaving the plantation, but I find that language to be rather extreme. But I know what my eyes have seen and it's amazing, I really hope the left doesn't continue to lose this amount of support, it's going to be a slaughter in November.

I think it's good that some liberals are finally speaking out against the herd mentality of the Left. It must take a lot of courage for them being in ultra liberal areas (such as the Bronx, or L.A) and stand as an individual knowing they'll be attacked and condemned for their political views.

Candidly dismissing this movement as nothing but Russian bots is one of the reasons why there is frustration towards the Left and the Democratic Party. The intolerance to listen to other views as their exaggerated self-opinion of itself have left them with a delusional perspective of reality that many liberals are getting fed up with hence #walkingaway.

I agree with you--I don't like the "plantation" language either. You might remember I didn't like invoking the Holocaust lightly and I feel the same way about plantation/slavery. I'm not correcting people on it because I don't want to be word monitor but I don't use it myself.

I think competition breeds lots of great things, right? I would absolutely LOVE to see our politicians really have to compete for the black vote. To work hard to earn the black vote and then be held, feet to the fire, to produce some serious RESULTS to earn it the next time. Because I think now, in some areas, the Democrats rather take it for granted, and that's not good no matter where you are. I'm for that! Fix the schools first (but I'm a teacher so I'm biased).

The views on this thread are typical of why people are leaving the left...its an almost bizzare lack of self awareness.

Did the president deliver a neutral/borderline supporting statement of the extreme right? Sure. Did basically every conservative congressman and senator condemn the extreme right? Yup. So at worst, we've got a vaguely racist president and a conservative congress that isn't very racist at all.

Meanwhile the left is actively engaging in political violence, suppressing dissenting views, harassing anyone on the right they disagree, and attacking freedom of speech....things that not even the neo nazis on the right are doing lol. It's pretty outlandish to claim the neo nazis are a bigger threat at this point to anyone's freedoms. Where is the widespread condemnation of this stuff on the left? It's not there....instead the left is encouraging it over and over.

To put into perspective what is going on, here is one group that has influence over millions of minorities in america. You might not ever even heard of them. Because they get zero coverage in liberal media. But they are petitioning congress, working with business leaders, governors and grassroots minority communities.

Now they are calling for the censure of Maxine Waters. These same pastors and community leaders are then speaking directly to their parishes and communities. All the while the liberal media says nothing is going on. Even without coverage, and even tho it is denied to be going on, the word of mouth still spreads. And they are directly speaking against the liberal agenda. Not necessarily pro-Trump, but definitely anti-establishment, and pro change in how legislation impacts black communities.
