  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Perhaps, but the alternative on the Right is much worse. They are eating moderate, reasonable conservatives like McCain alive.

Who exactly is the moderate left at this point?

I suppose the liberalism of my youth was always doomed. It counted on people being smart...now it appeals to the dumb, which is a much easier group to manipulate. Why make rational arguments when you can just keep fueling a national outrage machine? Convince people that the most important issues are related to racism, sexism, gender, etc...and you've got yourself an endless supply of drones.

I think this can be said about the loudest members of each party now, conservatives and liberals.

If its happening, its due to a well-orchestrated FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) campaign to suppress Democrat turnout.

I get your point of veiw. However I still contend that the absolute absurdity of the agenda driven by the left, is opening up individuals eyes when they themselves fall victim to what they had once preached. When a black man is spit on for being a Nazi, or worse, an uncle tom. When a gay is labeled a bigot. When a child is assaulted for a hat. Even the overt threats and violence seen coming from the 'tolerant' party. Such actions wear thin, and grate nerves. Eventually some even wonder what their party stands for, because they themselves do not condone those actions.

Who exactly is the moderate left at this point?

The Left isn't necessarily moderate anymore, I think there is a shakeup in the establishment similar to what happened with Republicans several years ago, but I find them on the whole less objectionable than the right's populism joined at the hip with a religious-political ethos that I cannot support in good conscience.

Then perhaps this is why people are walking away.

I don't think the excuse of "the other guy is worse" is a valid reason to support an agenda.

The parties are polarizing. In some cases that could make politics more interesting and give us real choices for the first time in decades.

Lol to me it feels like choosing between the yoke of the few and the yoke of the many.

Perhaps democracy has failed.

Indeed. Human beings do change political parties, why is that surprising and newsworthy, exactly? I see no evidence of a mass exodus of Democrats.

Trump's election--especially in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan--should have been evidence enough. Now you have Summer Madness in this very thread saying friends on Facebook are walking away. If that happens in the black community, it's devastating for Democrats. I don't know how it can be disputed.

Well now... If Summer Madness is saying it, there must be some substance to this.... That's like, probably the blackest person you know, right?

Surely, this is the end of the Democratic Party!

That "religious-political ethos" is mostly a figment of your imagination, the media, and a leftover from the 80s. Yes, we didn't want gay marriage to be enacted (but most of us wouldn't have objected to civil unions). But most of us are not going to stand in our gay married neighbors front lawns with signs and bullhorns and picket their marriage, or hunt them out of restaurants, or destroy their jobs and livelihoods.

Now compare and contrast with the Church of Social Justice. THIS is the religion of 2018, and the religion is absolutely horrid. All the judgment, all the sneering, calling out, sniffing, preening self-righteousness without a single shot at redemption. If the Church of Social Justice finds you a sinner, YOU. ARE. DOOMED. The Social Justice Mob will find you on Twitter or Facebook, shame you, drag you through the public square, hound your employer 'til they fire you, surround your house, and destroy your life. No grace, no mercy, no forgiveness, no redemption. This religion makes the "religion right" look like amateurs in fundamentalism.

The irony is rich and delicious, almost hilarious if it weren't so sad. Seriously I go to my evangelical church to escape it.

The Church of Social Justice IS the modern Left, by the way. And it's why people have to #WalkAway

Church of Socjus doesn't have hell, so no, your religion is still the worse.

And the church of Socjus is also not a rogue executive, which is more of a problem.

One does not have to look very far back to see the right engaging in the same censoriousness.

And here comes the eating of ones own. How many of the almost 6,000 positive ratings SummerMadness has acquired has been given by you? I know as a fact you have on mutable instances because I always click 'list' to see who is in a cliche. But now you got something derogatory to say.

Here's a fine example of the Dems turning on anyone that goes against the agenda that you claim doesn't exist. And you somehow think no one else notices and sees it as a put off...

Now what is this "blackest person" comment about? Inquiring minds want to know. Getting a bit racist?

Then you will need to acknowledge that he, in the same statement, said the same about some Antifa members too.
Sorry, but what does Antifa have to do with anything? President Trump made a public statement supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis. It seems like you agree that he did make the statement, but are now trying to justify it. Is this correct?

Sounds like every contemporary President to date.
Every contemporary President to date has rewarded the loyalty of the Neo Nazis and KKK? I definitely disagree with that statement. Can you please provide any kind of evidence to support this? I would be particularly interested in evidence that President Obama rewarded the loyalty of the Neo Nazis and KKK, but if you can produce the evidence, I will agree with you.

So Trump is just guilty of racism by association then?
No, President Trump made a public statement supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis.

While I think you comments are grossly overgeneralized, you're entitled to your opinion. I see nothing will change your mind on the matter.
President Trump is on video supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis, so obviously you are going to have a very difficult time convincing me it didn't happen. I base my beliefs on evidence and facts, so coming up with justifications and excuses for this kind of behaviour is not going to work. You will need to convince me that the video tape was faked, because if it is not, then President Trump is on video supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis. It can't much clearer than that.

It seems we are getting off topic. Perhaps we should start another thread, what do you think?

Isn't that current position of the Republican party, as stated by their leader? I'm quite sure it was Trump who said he "loves the poorly educated", and for good reason.

It appears both parties appeal, to use your words, to the "dumb". If true, doesn't that say more about the USA as a whole than anything else?

Do you ever wonder why the entire world just loves to hate the USA? I mean way, way outsized of the crimes we have committed?

I don't. I know.

People who vote Democratic and don't go out to punch Nazis or engage in riots or try to shut down free speech they don't like.

There's a few of us like that.

When did I turn on Summer? My comment was about Liza B dropping the old, "I know a black person that's one of the good ones" line, we hear so often from the right. You want to talk about lack of diversity of opinion on the left but the right only cares for black people who think like they do.

Don't think people can't see right through this nonsense.

No sir. I'm saying that the statement he made "there are some very fine people on both sides" was inclusive of both the alt-left and alt-right. Or I may ask you, what do you think he meant by "both sides?"

Every contemporary President to date has rewarded the loyalty of the Neo Nazis and KKK? I definitely disagree with that statement. Can you please provide any kind of evidence to support this? I would be particularly interested in evidence that President Obama rewarded the loyalty of the Neo Nazis and KKK, but if you can produce the evidence, I will agree with you.

false flag. There's no evidence for what you're suggesting without having to twist words to fit a narrative that simply isn't true. This is one reason people are leaving the Democratic party of many.

No, President Trump made a public statement supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis.

To say that, you will have to twist words. I suggest we be a bit more intellectually honest please.

President Trump is on video supporting the KKK and Neo Nazis, so obviously you are going to have a very difficult time convincing me it didn't happen. You keep saying the same thing over and over. It doesn't change the truth.

It seems we are getting off topic. Perhaps we should start another thread, what do you think?

I'm not confident that would be productive, but you're more than welcome to.

Pretty sure the walkaway stuff is supposed to be about things happening recently, not years ago.

It can be disputed by looking at actual election results, of course : https://www.npr.org/2017/12/13/5705...african-americans-propel-jones-to-alabama-win
