The Left isn't necessarily moderate anymore, I think there is a shakeup in the establishment similar to what happened with Republicans several years ago, but I find them on the whole less objectionable than the right's populism joined at the hip with a religious-political ethos that I cannot support in good conscience.
That "religious-political ethos" is mostly a figment of your imagination, the media, and a leftover from the 80s. Yes, we didn't want gay marriage to be enacted (but most of us wouldn't have objected to civil unions). But most of us are not going to stand in our gay married neighbors front lawns with signs and bullhorns and picket their marriage, or hunt them out of restaurants, or destroy their jobs and livelihoods.
Now compare and contrast with the Church of Social Justice. THIS is the religion of 2018, and the religion is absolutely horrid. All the judgment, all the sneering, calling out, sniffing, preening self-righteousness without a single shot at redemption. If the Church of Social Justice finds you a sinner,
YOU. ARE. DOOMED. The Social Justice Mob will find you on Twitter or Facebook, shame you, drag you through the public square, hound your employer 'til they fire you, surround your house, and destroy your life. No grace, no mercy, no forgiveness, no redemption. This religion makes the "religion right" look like amateurs in fundamentalism.
The irony is rich and delicious, almost hilarious if it weren't so sad. Seriously I go to my evangelical church to escape it.
The Church of Social Justice IS the modern Left, by the way. And it's why people have to #WalkAway
