• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was looking around for some new books and found some theology books on amazon and was wondering is it worth the read? Did anyone read them already? Can you point me in the right direction? i found a few actually should i buy? Is anyone willing to read with me?

Hello and welcome to CF. :)

The answer is going to vary depending on one's theological biases. I can tell you that the second and third have good reputations in their particular circles, but I suspect may not agree with one another. The first I'm not familiar with.

If I were answering the question, I would point people back to early Church sources. But not everyone would agree with me I suppose, and there are those you actually have to be careful of in some of their writings.

Again, welcome to CF. :)

The second one was what I had for a class in Vanguard University and the book was a good overview. That being said Anastasa is right you should study the Fathers and the early Church if you really want great Theology.

.
Understand first, that anything you read other than the Bible itself is a commentary on the Bible, they are all mans thinking and beliefs as to what the Bible says, you would be way better off to save your money and give it to some homeless guy, than to fill your head with the beliefs of someone else.

You need to know, that whatever you read concerning the Bible will be in your head, and it could literally take you years to get it out of your head if you some day decide you don't want it there any longer.

All extra Biblical books of any kind, are not necessary, the Holy Spirit is your Private Tutor, He will lead you into all Righteousness, and He will do it in such a manner that what He teaches you will actually be the next step in your journey with the Lord.
