Do you know why a Christian cannot willfully sin

What does scripture say?

“No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.” (1 John 3:6)

“No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God” (1 John 3:9)

“he one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning” (1 john 3:8)

“By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 john 3:10)

Preach it, brother! :amen:

The Bible says "continue" to sin.

It means that no one that is of God LOVES their sin, or sin at all, but abhors it. It also means that this one will confess their sins immediately. And that is because they love GOD more than "sin".

We still sin. But with God's help we can realize when we are sinning, avoid sin, be more sensitive to risky situations or behaviors, and feel sorrow when we do sin, then ask forgiveness. If we did not sin even after faith in Christ, the Our Father would not be worded the way it is. Nor would James have written as he did to believers.

How many times are you going to commit the same sin? A sin repeated over and over is by someone with no power to not sin. His sin has not been taken away. Jesus gives us power to repent and be dead to sin.

I willfully sin. Does this mean I'm not a Christian?

I think there are about fourteen Christians in the world today, by that measure.

Or some people have an extremely narrow concept of "sin."

Jesus said of Himself: "Jesus gave them this answer: "Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does."

What Jesus says here is the definition of "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." God has built the model, the shadow, the plan of what each of our days should be. Just as Moses was shown the model in heaven of the tabernacle and built it on earth according to what he was shown, we have access to see what each of our days should be and then performing the day as we have been shown.

IMO, only if we can say that our every action every day was perfectly in accord with what the Father holds in His mind as what we should have done, we cannot say we have not missed the mark.

If you claim Jesus as only your Savior, and not your Lord, don't be deceived. You must be born again of the Spirit, because...

1 John 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.

I do claim Jesus as my Lord. But I still fail to live for Him as I ought. I still willfully sin and imagine that this will continue until I die.

To qualify, I’m unwilling to live in sin. When I encounter willful sin, I do my best to repent. But my repentance and faith is imperfect.

The "continue" is what you do before getting saved.

You no longer continue after being saved...because you are a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

If we still sin, scripture says WE ARE NOT SAVED.

Many are called but few are chosen. Is it our pride telling us that we are saved if we deny this?

Ink, when is the last time that you fell short of the glory of God in thought, word, or deed?

Yes, the "struggle is real". Saint Paul writes about this often. And at the same time, encourages us to press on towards holiness, and perfected love.

Ink, when is the last time that you fell short of the glory of God in thought, word, or deed?

Today.

And I'm saying that we all need to consider what that means instead of living on a cloud of "I'm saved" even though we deny scripture when doing so.

Saved people are new. The old sinful self dies and a new one is made of Christ. This is what scripture tells us.

it's speaking on loving their sin and a blatant disregard for God or His grace. it's kinda like spitting in the face of God and His grace, isn't it?

Children of the Most High DO sin. The difference is that they do NOT love their sin. They do NOT blatantly "continue" in it. They grieve over it. They seek God's face and His grace to overcome it.

WE are not "Saviors". We are STILL in fleshly bodies.

THAT is why we are told to put on the armor of God. The enemy is STILL targeting us, with fiery arrows, and aiming at our "Achilles Heel", so to speak.

That's why it is best not to claim that those who are of the Most High God do NOT sin, ever.

For those who are struggling and repentant, that's quite a nasty, and needless blow.

Amen?

Amen?

Christ lives in the saved person does he not?

Scripture tells us that if we sin we are not saved and that if we are saved we no longer sin (because the old sinful self dies and is replaced by a new self).

“if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him” (Romans 6:6)

These verses do not speak about saved people sinning. They speak of the sinful dying and the new creation of Christ's no longer sinning. We REALLY need to think on that instead of presuming, especially when so few of us display anything like the faith that Christ asks of the saved.

Are you saying that you sinned, Ink?

Yup.

There is no space for lying on this.

If I have sinned, and the verses I quote say the saved do not sin, it means I am not saved (which would also explain the fear and doubt I experience - fear and faith are polar opposites).

People need to stop presuming that they are saved if scripture is saying otherwise.

See post #31, Ink.

You stated that you fell short of the glory of God in thought, word, or deed, did you not?

What does that mean?

Which part of "yes" (I have sinned today) do people not get?

I'm not throwing this at other people. I'm applying it to ALL OF US.

It is written that we have an Advocate Who we can go to to seek mercy, grace, and forgiveness when we sin.

We are not sinless, nor perfect.

Just "forgiven".
