  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are you a sinner after confessing Christ is Lord?

This may be semantics, as it results in the same, but technically you are still a sinner. The difference is that you are forgiven and made righteous through Christ, so that your sins are not held against you during your judgement. If one wants to say that one is no longer a sinner at that point, fair enough. However, I find it helpful to always remember that one is a sinner and always falls short of God’s glory. This helps keep us grounded, avoiding the the self-righteouses that comes with the belief of being free from sin. It also makes us remember and appreciate just how much we are forgiven and value the sacrifice of Christ all the more.

Even if we are justified, we must always keep 1 John 1:8 before our eyes, lest we forget that we are all deserving of God’s wrath but through Christ we are spared.

My understanding is that we are not truly born again until we reach heaven and are given out new glorified bodies when all things will be made new again. A new Creation cannot sin literally! but yet we do sin. But we are born of the spirit and can now understand the spiritual matters by seeing the Kingdom of God and cry out to God as Abba or Father. This is one proof of our being in Christ. Until then we are still trapped in a sinful body and continue to sin until we die. The main difference between a true Christian is that we struggle with sin in an effort to overcome it. People that are not in Christ have no idea that they are living in sin and do not seek forgiveness from Jesus. They may think he is some kind of a nice guy who is all loving but they do not seek forgiveness nor do they repent! This is the main point I believe that separates us. The job of the Holy Spirit is to first convict the sinner that he is guilty and judgement is at hand and then to point to the only person who can save him which is Jesus Christ. Please share the gospel with everyone you know because they will all be held guilty before God if they are not in Christ.

We are making this too complicated. A sinner is one who sins. If you believe you sin, can't stopped sinning, and will sin in the future, then you are a sinner.

Can't say that you are not a smoker, if you know you will smoke ...but just less frequently than you did before. Whether you smoke a little or a lot, whether you just feel bad about smoking now when before you didnt,..... you are still a smoker.
A Christian by definition is a person who believes in Jesus Christ for their salvation. I don't think anyone believes that someone who is free of sin is then automatically saved. Christians are a forgiven people who rely on the righteousness of Christ, not on their own self righteousness.

Be ye perfect does not mean we are perfect in love, or even sinless, it means we have become perfect in Christ. Christ is the one who is exalted and the platform on which we stand.

I would disagree to some extent.

The measuring stick according to the scripture, if you want to evaluate Christians. Is none other than love, you will know exactly who are the true disciples by their love for one another.

Love from a pure heart is the purpose of all the Christian instruction. Love is the ultimate work of the Holy Spirit in a believers life. You can repent all you want but without love, your wasting everyone's time and especially Gods.

Love is what fills Paul's letters.

God is love!

I don't think that anyone with a shred of personal integrity in Christ. Would even dare to suggest that they are sin free. If one considers one's own thought life and the way we relate to others.
I doubt whether you would find very many folk who have devoted their life. Their possessions, their everything, to loving others to the utmost. Sin ultimately is the refusal to love others, that is what the law and the prophets testify to.

Sin is the good that you know you should be doing, but never really do it. This is the sin that would catch nearly everyone, every day of the week.

If you overall were sinless you could ascend to heaven right now like Christ , but you can't because flesh and blood can't inherit .

You are born again of Spirit , that does not mean God murdered the one born of woman - earthly body .
You wait for your earthly body to die then you are free to go to heaven , then at resurrection you get glorified body like Christ has .

1 Corinthians 15:50

Your body will always sin , try not to sin for 1 day , buy gopro and record everything you did then watch it . You will at least dozen of time . (some will say i'll just sit in my bed and do nothing and win , no you won't being lazy is sin according to proverbs )

That's why when rapture occurs ( does not matter if it'pre, mid or post trib for this argument ) we are changed from corrupted bodies to incorruption because otherwise we would not be able to inherit.

You are sealed untill that day of redemption Ephesians 1:13-14

No you are not. You are a new creation and all things are new the old is gone.

To many churches are still teaching from an old covenant understanding.
If you are in Christ you are not a sinner. Again because of this false teaching that we are all sinners. Is a lie from the pit of hell.
In the eyes of God we weren't "a sinner" before faith in Christ either, we were sons of God, his erring children who had gone astray. Upon returning, safely back in the fold, one who has faith in Christ can still commit a sin but not launch out in full blown rebellion against our father.

Some people may remember the verse, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23 (WEB). They emphasize the imperfection of the human condition and dare not call themselves perfect or sinless.

If I quit smoking, drinking alcohol, fornication and drugs, I might like my new attitude better, yet I am an imperfect human being. I may study and work to repent more, yet I am not perfect as God is perfect.

I agree with you that if you are following Jesus, you will be showing signs of improvement and bad habits you repented of will not bring you down.

.
If you are one, What would you say is the New Creation, what makes it New?

If you say you still have a sin nature, then what was Re-Created?
My attitude toward it?
§The way I think?
Romans 12:2

Do you think we don't have a sin nature anymore?
I know persons that believe this.

Well, even if you believe that Christ died for us, and you confess your sins you can still most definitely be a sinner. Otherwise why would Jesus and the apostles all warn us to stay away from sinning?

1 John 3:4, when someone sins, they break God's law. So if you work on the Sabbath (the 7th day aka Saturday), it's a sin.

If you commit adultery, it's a sin. If you steal, it's a sin.

The list goes on and on, but no, even if you have Christ, you can still most definitely be a sinner. We are all sinners, always will be until we receive our new bodies which will be incorruptible.

Does this mean that we are to give up and not even try to stop sinning? No, we should try our best to live lives free of sin. If we continue in our sins without trying to avoid them, then even though we say we have Christ, we're lying.

Of course we are still sinners, but we are forgiven sinners :)

To be sinless is to be spiritually perfect, and no human other than Jesus Christ ever attains that spiritual state while on Earth. Which is why Jesus instituted the sacrament of Confession and instructed the first priests of His Church on how to use it. Which is why that sacrament is intended to be used every time we do fall into serious sin, as well as to provide ongoing grace to help us resist sin.

This may be just an argument about words.

Once we are “in Christ” are we guilty sinners in the sight of God? IOW is our status before God “sinner” or “guilty”? No. We are justified and accounted as righteous in his sight.

Do we still possess a sin nature which will war against the Spirit and cause us to commit sins? Is it still possible for us to sin? Yes.

As Luther pithily said, we are simul Justus et peccator. IOW, we are simultaneously righteous and sinful.

I don't know of anywhere in the scriptures where Jesus or the Apostles ever refer to believers with the label 'sinner'. I do see believers referred to as 'saints'.

Paul calls himself the chief of sinners.
