Why is it a sin to be in an interracial relationship?

No reason other than prejudice. According to Scripture, the human race is one race.

I don't think that is in the Bible. The closest it comes to that is that God told the Israelites to not intermarry with many of their neighbors during the time of its founding. However, this wasn't because of their race, but because He didn't want them to chase after other gods, which they ended up doing all the time throughout the Old Testament.

Today, almost every relationship is sinful.
Every sexual relationship outside of marriage is sinful.
Interracial as well as every other one.

But not interracial any more than any other one - there were famous interracial marriages in the Bible.

A relationship does not have to be sinful. Simply most are.

They are preaching a false gospel. Find another church.

fifty years ago viewing interracial marriage as a sin was not an uncommon position especially in the evangelical churches. Those supporting the position had numerous biblical passages to support them. It has largely died away but every now and then you will hear of a church refusing to marry an interracial couple..

They must be taking some Scripture out of context.
Moses was married to an Ethiopian woman.
Solomon had to many wives, and most of them were not Jewish.
The only thing I would caution against is a believer to marry an unbeliever. That will cause problems for the believer.

The frowning is mainly a social thing, not religious, but although a few preachers can be found somewhere or other who say the wildest things, I assure you that this idea of an interracial relationship being immoral or sinful is roundly rejected by probably 99% of all churches.

As someone else has written, you might do yourself a favor by distancing yourself from those preachers and instead join some more normal church.

It's not a sin. God created all races of peoples, He loves people from all races of peoples. Discrimination and prejudice are the sins, some people are more inclined to them, often comes from conditioning experiences as they develop and grow as a person. I suppose we all have our hangups and sins we're more inclined towards. At the heart of it (and many other sins), is the sin of pride.

Race is more than just color. Dog breeds can have the same breed but different colors. The different races are akin to being different dog breeds. There is a bigger difference going on than just the color of our skin.

We see the example of this with Esau and his wives:

When Esau was forty years old, he took Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite to be his wife, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and they made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah.

These differences can't be put in a bottle and contained. The cultural differences will manifest themselves and also the genetic differences.

Marrying foreign women has consistently been discouraged throughout scripture since they will lead you astray after their cultural way and practice.

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of such women? Among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women made even him to sin. ~Nehemiah 13:26

So this is the basis of the reason to not marry foreign women. Nowadays we make sure not to marry unbelievers as that would be unequally yoked in life and would make great trouble, all for the same reasons.
