  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

Transferrence is really interesting. I think that’s what it’s called. When people make assumptions about you that really reflect their own attitudes and prejudices.

I thought it was called projection? Or are there subtle differences?

projection, is it when people lie (projecting their own sins to others) to preserve their own ego and pride? :p Psychology stuff. Pretty twisted:confused:

Yeah, I guess it is projection. It’s amazing how many different people have such different reactions to me and how many differing (and untrue) theories they have about me.
I’m starting to sound like Mehguy. I’m in trouble now! :tonguewink:

That's the curse of being really empathetic.. you're pretty much glued into wondering how others perceive you.

It is fascinating. Basically they expose themselves by how they react to me.

(Is it called your FIRST cousin when she is the child of one of your grandparents' siblings and not your parents'?)

I think that's a second cousin. As I understand it, first cousins share grandparents, second cousins share great-grandparents, third cousins share great-great-grandparents, etc.

Apparently its fake, but still gave me a big laugh

It definitely is fake - he never said that, although the video is taken from a speech where he battled to read out a large number correctly.

You know, that reminds me. Remember that Richard Simmons guy? I remember my father and his parents mentioning a few times when I was a kid that, supposedly, Richard was his third cousin. ^_^

Thanks for all the prayers. I wish I had better news, but I heard this morning that they're probably going to turn the machines off - I think they're just waiting for some other family members (there's a daughter who's in America, and it takes a while to get here from there).

And it was really just a matter of time - she passed away earlier this afternoon.

If she is your mother’s neice and you share grandparents she is your first cousin. But it sounds like she is actually your mother’s first cousin because they share grandparents. So she would be your first cousin one time removed.
That said... those relitives I still just call cousins. Or I’d say my mom’s cousin.
I had a relitive that was my grandma’s cousin or my great grandma’s cousin... it was way too confusing. So she would send us birthday cards and say from “Cousin ....” :)

Random fact... a bit ago I met my 10th cousin one time removed. We were both entering the same college and met at one of those new student things.

 Turns out I misread the original post. What I said in terms of first/second cousins was correct, but you're it saying that she's a first cousin once removed.

I just go with same generation as me = cousin. Older than me = aunt/uncle.

That's impressive that you kept track of family to that extent - 10th cousin is quite some distance away on the family tree.
