  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Very true.

Which is why some of the earliest writings before denominations can be very instructional. Peace to you.
The True Secret to Spiritual Growth!

The True Secret to Spiritual Growth ! The greatest hindrance to spiritual growth is being controlled by one group , having one group dictate to you what is the truth ! Every group in existence tells their followers that they have the quote : ” REAL TRUTH ” and in this way they get their followers to listen only to them . As long as you are limited to the teachings of one group you cannot possibly grow spiritually , you are totally controlled . Jesus Christ said the only way to break free of the control of any group is to follow his word only , not men : John 8 ( 31 & 32 ) : If you continue in my word you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free ! Free from what ? : Free from the control of men . When you are finally freed from the control and limitations of the groups of men by following God’s word alone , your spiritual growth becomes unlimited . This is the true secret to spiritual growth , following the word of God , not men ! The bible goes on to say that the only true interpreter of his word is his Holy Spirit , never men : 1 John 2 ( 27 ) : But the anointing which you have received of him abides in you , AND YOU NEED NOT THAT ANY MAN TEACHES YOU, but as the same anointing TEACHES YOU OF ALL THINGS ! If you follow God’s word only with his spirit only interpreting it for you , you can never again be controlled by men ! Again this is the true secret to spiritual growth ! This of course does not mean that you cannot listen to men , but you must always make God’s word the final authority , by always checking if what they teach is according to God’s word : Acts 17 ( 11 ) : Receive the word with all readiness of mind , AND SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES WHETHER THESE THINGS ARE SO ! The church people do not do this , and so THEY BECOME CONTROLLED BY MEN , INSTEAD OF GOD ! Most people in the churches today think that they are following God , but they are not : they are being controlled by men, not God : they are limited by the teachings of men , not God : and so of course they cannot grow spiritually at all : they are spiritually dead and don’t even know it . Christ wants you to follow his word only , so you can find his real truth , which will automatically free you from the controls and limitations of groups which kill spiritual growth : John 8 ( 31 & 32 ) : If you continue in MY WORD , you shall know THE TRUTH, and THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE ! So if you want true spiritual growth , start following God’s word alone , not the teachings of men , in the endless groups of men and your spiritual growth will become unlimited, no longer limited by the teachings of groups ! BE CONTROLLED BY GOD , NOT MEN OR THE GROUPS OF MEN !

I'm not sure what that has to do with my post. Maybe you are considering some other problem.

Without the early Church/Church Fathers/Ekklesia/Body of Christ - i.e. Men - you wouldn't have "the word of God" (if by that you mean the Holy Scriptures).

Christ didn't establish a book. He established a Church, a body made up of believers. Scripture tells us that the CHURCH is the pillar and ground of truth. Many local Churches were established and went on living out the Christian witness, years or even decades before the first word of the New Testament was written.

But your issue appears to be different. Control? It's not about control but about community - a body, working together for the sake of the salvation and edification of all its parts.

The question was about not forsaking the assembly of ourselves. A hand or a toe that cuts itself off from the rest of the Body cannot survive on its own. This is the analogy chosen by the Apostle.

God be with you.

Churches can be wrong, do you agree? Look at the Churches in Revelation 3, look at the corinthians and Galatians. Without the apostles all we have is the scriptures. Thats enough actually because God didnt give us religion, he gave us His spirit. And His scriptures. We have no apostles today, all we have is flawed tradition. The so called "mother church", or "original church", doest follow scripture but instead follows fallible and outdated theology. In my opinion.

Obviously there are different opinions out there, based on different sets of observations.

I don't wish to debate or be disagreeable. I will simply say my thanks to God for guiding me through all the denominations He has, for learning along the way, and for where He has placed me now finally. Glory to God!

Likewise He has the salvation of each person as His greatest concern - so I am thankful for that as well.

Oh, and yes, a Church can be wrong. That's why there are overseers, and that's why councils consider how faithfully the Church follows the Lord, and that's why all of the people are responsible as well to remain faithful and to keep the faith as delivered once for all to the Saints. Churches are made of people, and people are not perfect. But working together as the Lord established it, the Church can be a living Body, for the benefit of all its individual members.

God be with you.

Amen to your thankful heart.
But, and not to be rude, why do you credit God with going through different denoms?
Likewise He has the salvation of each person as His greatest concern - so I am thankful for that as well.
God is so wonderful to us!

I have one question...
if a church can be wrong,
certainly a council can be, and often
has been throughout history.
So it's a crapshoot.. or is it?
Does God really value some of our
foolish arguments?(filioque for instance)

God be with you.
The purpose of assembling is to edify one another by everyone contributing through sharing and discerning.

1 Cor 14
26What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; 28but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God. 29Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment.

The process outlined below requires group activity:

  1. Asking for bread daily
  2. Assembling
  3. Sharing
  4. Discerning

Those who have been cleansed through the word are the ones who have given up serving the world for selfish reasons.

Those whose feet have been cleaned are those who do not even fear for their lives by sharing the above message. It is nuanced. Peter left everything and followed Christ. However, how the message affected different aspects of his life needed clarification, foot washing. He had to give up triumphalism, trying to show how superior he had become, for which he was called Satan and ordered to get out of Christ's sight, not make the mistake Israel and Moses made in going out to fight Canaan when God was not with them, and in Moses case, trying to show how superior he had become by claiming God's glory for himself by striking the Rock for water.

People are going to be saved by depending on God, not Moses, or Cephas or Apollos.

The concern of the hand or toe is to form a viable body, to bless the world.

If an ekklesia, a separated called out body, becomes viable at a local level, it has manifested the Kingdom of God, has become a Temple for the Holy Spirit. There is no need for unity for ALL global units.

The teaching is simple, accessible, if believers follow Scripture teaching: ask for bread, eat that bread, share that bread...

Because of Israel's disbelief, Gentiles now also have hope, can share in Christ's work of blessing the world. Bread meant for the natural children, branch, are now going out to sheep of the other flock, wild branches...
