And aidios is only used TWICE. The first time to describe God, and the second time to describe the chains of fallen angels in Jude 6. In Jude 6, it is clear aidios means a finite period of time.
So no. Aidios is NOT more eternal than aionios.

I must have missed it. But "I'm right and you're wrong! Am too! Nuh huh!" does not refute anything.

You really have to be blind to believe these verses refute Annihilationism. Come on. This is ridiculous.
I would be very careful about throwing around insulting epithets.

When I am discussing Jewish beliefs of course I quote Jewish sources. When discussing language I use lexicons not anonymous websites like some folks do.

This doesn't have anything to do with what Jesus said. However, the word "everlasting" is incorrect. The Hebrew word Is the word owlam. It doesn't mean everlasting. Here' a link from the Ancient Hebrew Research Center that explains how the word owlam was used.
Here is a word study I did in the OT on the word "olam."

Quite evidently you haven't the foggiest idea what that term means. You might want to look it up before you use it again. argumentum ad verecundiam. or argument from authority.
Actually, no. Eternity is not a duration of time. It essentially means the absence of time.
But "aion"/"aonios" and "aidios" do refer to time in some way. The argument being thrown around is that "aionios" does not mean "eternal." I have shown that it does. "red" and "spicy" do not refer to the same anything so they are not a good argument.

It was in response to this assertion you made in the post I quoted. "The Hebrew word Is the word owlam. It doesn't mean everlasting." I showed from 35 OT verses that "olam" does in fact mean everlasting which I said after each verse if quoted.. Had you bothered to actually read any of my post you would have known that.

I guess what you have to do is go back to the time of the Bible and tell the writers that they could not use "olam" with phrases like e.g. "never be destroyed.""will not pass away."

Yes we have gone over this. It appears that you ignored my post where I show from 22 verses that aion/aionion do in fact mean eternity/eternal. For example.

In Romans 1:20 Paul refers to God’s power and Godhead as “aidios.” Scholars agree “aidios” unquestionably means eternal, everlasting, unending etc. In Rom 16:26 Paul refers to God as “aionios,” therefore Paul considers “aidios” and “aionios” to be synonymous.

Yet Scripture never uses that word of the unending punishment of the lost. If Jesus taught unending punishment, surely He would have repeatedly used a word that, you say, "unquestionably means unending. Therefore Jesus didn't teach such a dogma.

Instead, Jesus used a word, aionios, that scholars generally agree is ambiguous, that sometimes refers to duration that is endless & other times refers to duration that is finite & ends.

Even your beloved JPS translation does not render olam as eternal when applied to God's goings, but as "of old" in Hab.3:6:

"He standeth, and shaketh the earth, He beholdeth, and maketh the nations to tremble; And the everlasting mountains are dashed in pieces, The ancient[OLAM] hills do bow; His goings are as of old.[OLAM]" (Hab.3:6, JPS)

The LXX has aionios[166] for olam there in Hab.3:6.

That's what you do when claiming AD, OLAM, AION, and AIONIOS always mean eternal, unless used in hyperbole. Jesus spoke of the "end of the aion" (Mt.24:3, etc), clearly proving aion does not mean eternal, where it is also not used in hyperbole. Yet you say it's hyperbole there. And no one, no lexicon or Greek scholar agrees with you! It's Der Alter vs the universe & all history!

Didn't you post some silliness about salt a few posts back? What did you call that "figurative language?" I showed how olam is defined as everlasting by association with other words. Can you show me the same thing for less than "eternal."
I guess what you have to do is go back to the time of the Bible and tell the writers that they could not use "olam" with phrases like e.g. "never be destroyed.""will not pass away."

Daniel 7:14

Can a person literally, actually gain the whole world or is that hyperbole?
1 John 5:19
(19) And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
Did the whole world literally, actually lie in wickedness or is that hyperbole?

(9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Was the whole world deceived by the devil or is that hyperbole?
Revelation 13:3
(3) And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
Did "all the world" actually, literally wonder after or admire the beast or is that hyperbole?
That all these verses use figurative language does not show that any other verse uses figurative language.

Irrelevant? How do you have a study and only include the verses you want to use? That's not a study, that's propaganda.

Yes, begging the question. Will the generations of Israel cease? Unless you prove they don't your argument is begging the question.

However, there is no debate here. Olam is used of finite periods of time. Thus it cannot mean eternity. A word can have more than one meaning, but it can't have opposing meanings. In every single passage you posted the phrase ages of ages or unto the ages will work. Therefore there is no reason to try to change the meaning of the word.

No it doesn't. In each verse the word age or ages fits in the passage and makes sense. Thus there is no reason to try to change the meaning. You also only presented part of the evidence.

And aidios is only used TWICE. The first time to describe God, and the second time to describe the chains of fallen angels in Jude 6. In Jude 6, it is clear aidios means a finite period of time.

So no. Aidios is NOT more eternal than aionios.

I'd opine the chains in Jude 6 are eternal, so AIDIOS is eternal there. What is not eternal is how long they are said to be kept in those chains, which is until the day of judgement. Whether or not they are kept in chains thereafter is not addressed.

I'll submit these comments for consideration & discussion:

In this vs. “olam” is paired with “unto all generations.” “Age(s),”a finite period, does not equate to “unto all generations,”“for ever” does.

A finite eon, age or ages is perfectly harmonious with generations.

Your translation misrepresents the Hebrew. There's no "all" in the Hebrew text, not that it would matter, since even that would not say 'throughout all' generations. Even yours says only "unto", not 'throughout'.

Young's Literal Translation
this is My name -- to the age, and this My memorial, to generation -- generation.

This is My name for the eon, and this the remembrance of Me for generation after generation. (CLV)

Contrary to your opinion, aion is defined (as lexicons agree), as a finite duration, age, eon, epoch. And Scripture proves it:

But "aion"/"aonios" and "aidios" do refer to time in some way. The argument being thrown around is that "aionios" does not mean "eternal." I have shown that it does.



"For that his[Satan's] kingdom is of this age,[αἰώνιος] i.e., will cease with the present age[αιώνι] ..." (Homily 4 on Ephesians, Chapter II. Verses 1-3).

Aionios is of finite duration above, not eternal.
