  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's the case here. I refuse to rent because a) it's going to be 50-100% what I'd pay a month for my own mortgage payment, b) I'm literally paying someone else's mortgage at that point and c) because rent prices are so high it's incredibly difficult to get out of that 'system' once you're in it because prohibitively high rent means you're saving next to nothing each month towards your own down payment.

The main issue is that it's difficult to get a reasonably-sized mortgage if you're single and earning less than $40,000-50,000, so it boils down to how much down payment you can put together with the mortgage you can get.

If it's a couple then it isn't so bad.
Hopefully housing prices will level out soon. I am not sure what the issues are in England. Things have started to stabilize in Ontario over the past few months due to some recent taxes being implemented to curtail the buying of multiple properties by foreigners for profit and sheltering assets. This was driving up the housing market drastically.

Prior to the new taxes, the bidding wars over houses were often ending up around 50-100,000 above the listed price. It’s virtually impossible for young people to get established and buy a home in that kind of market.

They pretty much only ever go up. It's because land is a finite resource here so any new construction projects to build new homes, they cram as many in as they can, they're tiny and they're probably $400,000 for a terraced, 900 sq ft house.

That tiny white 'house' on the end is $180,000.

I've been looking at buying a truck, but I want to get my credit up. After paying off my student debt, I thought my credit would show it was in good shape. Instead, it says I now have no credit at all. When you have no credit, it's difficult to get a credit card. I've tried to get smaller loans and such, but having no credit kills me.

Wow, that is crazy

Yup. And that's probably $750/mo minimum rent lol.

This is the problem. Prices go up so the landlords sell property, buy two cheaper ones which go up in price and so on. It's ridiculous and it isn't going to change any time soon, if ever. It's too far gone now.

Canadians....collect some odd things ya know that?

Of course you have 10 months of winter and 50 feet of snow.... so Id probably collect stranger things. :sput:
What if I told you we haven't even had a collective 1 ft of snow where I live this year thus far.

So far I think Texas has had more snow than us, judging by the pics @Anthony7 posted aha... it's pretty crazy. But yes, usually tons of snow.

People are trying to sell them on ebay for like $20 lol. But yeah they're pretty neat... if I had the self-will to leave them unopened I would have, but yeah that wasn't happening :p

750 a month for rent still sounds like the less horrible deal though, in comparison to just 180,000 to buy it.

I don’t think my first name is common enough to be printed on a bottle. It’s cool you found one with your name.

My first name is fairly common, but it's always spelt wrong. :(

I have seen your name spelled a couple of different ways. It’s funny but sometimes the more common names have the most spelling variations.
