  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was #NeverTrump. I’ve changed my mind.

Early on I was considering voting for Trump, when Clinton and Trump went to Detroit and presented their domestic agendas that changed once and for all. Trump's immigration policy and to some extent his foreign policy have some promise but he has been less then impressive. I'm glad he finally recognized Jerusalem was the capitol of Israel and, as just about everyone realizes, it should have happened decades ago. It's disappointing that he learned nothing from Clinton's errors in the campaign. She had this big scandal that turned out to be foolish but not criminal but more then anything else, cost her the election. She played to her base and alienated moderates, virtually abandoning the economic issues that could have saved her. Now he has some stupid scandal that he may or may not be culpable in and it just lingers, while he plays to his base and erodes the confidence of moderates.

I'm still not seeing this big infrastructure bill he talked about, still not seeing anything getting done on that wall. The budget process is proceeding...I guess...but mostly they are kicking the can down the road while key promises of the Trump administration simmer on the back burner.

I never said never Trump, but for me to support a Republican President with his record, would be a first.

You said Trump has failed to stand for Christian values and is weak on terror/illegals but you didn't give an example of that. It's hard to have a conversation about something when you don't explain your reasoning.

As far as the illegal immigrants go, our border patrol has been expanded and he's done much to fight against these sanctuary cities. With terrorism, he's gone to Middle-East countries and asked the governments there to help fight terrorism at the source, but not only that he's also made several controversial policies to prevent people from traveling here from countries with terrorism issues.

Yes, but this info is hidden in the facts... they don't see it on the fake news network.

I hope he can move to infrastructure now. We need it. It would be a job creator also.

The new spin from Democrats is that the economy is doing well, but Obama deserves credit, not Trump. So, if the economy tanks, Obama gets the blame.
Was the economy doing bad all the way up until January 20, 2017?

They can't even get the budget done and now they are passing a bill that will cut revenue. So is this how you make major improvements to your home? You cut the amount of money that you will be making, increase the debt your going to be accumulating, then pursue costly improvements? That's the logic of Washington, I just don't get it. Oh and by the way, the interim elections are coming up, that's a factor.

Perhaps you could quote the section you feel is relevant to the discussion?

It's a very short article, but I think this is relevant because hispanics represent 17% of the workforce and that number is growing. Also, the article says the black unemployment last month is half that what it was at the start of Obama's second year in office. Anway...

"Hispanics are reaping the benefits of a strong job market, even as some remain concerned about their place in the country under a Trump presidency.

The president has made cracking down on illegal immigration one of his top priorities, and spoke derisively about Mexicans during his campaign.

On jobs, at least, Hispanics in the Trump era are seeing improvement.

"Hispanics are more confident about their personal financial situation than the general public, and they're also more optimistic that their family's financial situation is going to improve in the next year," said Jens Manuel Krogstad, who studies Hispanic demographics for the Pew Research Center."

If you're referring to the tax cuts, it's important to realize that tax revenue isn't a 1 to 1 ratio. Raising taxes doesn't always mean more tax dollars because people are reactive. If you raise the price of BigMacs, people may simply buy less of them. Similarly, if you lower taxes more people may enter the workforce because employers pay less taxes and can afford more employees, and on the other hand more people may work extra hours because they won't be afraid of being pushed into higher tax brackets.

And, there’s no telling how much money President Trump has saved, by demanding NATO members step up, by demanding Paris Climate Accord members step up, and by stopping payoffs, my guess like to North Korea (no telling how long that could have been going on and it must have been a lot judging from how crazy Kim is acting). Also, where’s ISIS now? I think we’re safer, sure something could happen (it always could), but everyone now knows that payback will be swift and rough. If fake news, congress and other political entrenchments would get out of his way and let him cut a lot more of the ridiculous hand-out spending, we wouldn’t have to worry about infrastructure, healthcare, or illegal immigration.

"....there's no telling" ...or you could provided some facts. But hey, perception is reality in politics.

I was Pro-Trump. I've changed my mind. I wanted a strong President who would stand up for Christian values and be tough on terror and illegal immigration.

A lot of people did and still do. Except for the "Christian values" part, so did I.

We all want the same things, we only differ on how to go about achieving them... which means we differ on who best is going to achieve them.

What we've instead gotten is an infantile clown who is an embarrassment to himself and our nation, and who is causing more international conflict than he is solving.

Amen to that.

This isn't Conservatism. He doesn't embody what it means to be a Republican.

Because people have conflated machismo with Repiblicanism... and worse, with Conservativism.

As long long as Donald continues his strutting, chest-thumping, alpha-male antics, those who are easily fooled will continue to be easily fooled. They don't even see the pettiness and insecurity lurking just beneath the surface...

I've always been a moderate who leaned further right than left, but this insane, juvenile nonsense has caused me to look down deep within myself and ask a lot of questions.

There have got to be some genuine Conservatives out there who haven't sold their souls for tickets on the Trump Train... before you cross over to the Left Side (but don't rule it out; we have cookies!) Find them. I don't want to see either political party or ideology fall apart completely... It might be that the next president to make a complete Trump of himself will be a liberal Democrat... I'll certainly want someone, anyone standing up to him.

When I hear that I am reminded of the American Tourister suitcase commercial where a gorilla beats up luggage.

Good point, that hurts, I work a lot of overtime and taxes are taken out on a broader scale. That's not all that's happening here, they are obviously handing the richest one percent the choice tax cuts and dangling everyone else. It's going to hurt them next year and it's going to explode the deficit. That's why I'm never Trump, not because I never could be, but because it's always like this with Republicans.

The actual amounts probably fall under that 'plane load' accounting.

You said Trump has failed to stand for Christian values and is weak on terror/illegals but you didn't give an example of that.

If Donald has demonstrated a Christian value, it's gone unnoticed... odd for a man who lives for the spotlight.

It's hard to have a conversation about something when you don't explain your reasoning.

But easy when the reasoning is self-evident.

As far as the illegal immigrants go, our border patrol has been expanded

Already refuted.

and he's done much to fight against these sanctuary cities.

"Crying" doesn't count as doing much. What he has attempted to do -- cut off federal funds -- was unconstitutional and was rightly stopped.

With terrorism, he's gone to Middle-East countries and asked the governments there to help fight terrorism at the source,

Anyone can ask, but what has he given them in exchange for their promise (pinky swear, so you know it's serious!) that they'll do... something.

but not only that he's also made several controversial policies to prevent people from traveling here from countries with terrorism issues.

Except for those countries which have already sent terrorists our way -- Saudi Arabia being at the top of the list. The door is still wide open for them.
