  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is that mild? Brrrrrrr....sounds cold to me, -1 here,

Here is a picture of our postman, looking cold!

Winter-weather-Dec-9th-2017.jpg

Sunny later today after an icy, slight snowy start.

My local City Council decided that they were not going to salt/grit the main roads in their own words "because it was going to rain and it will wash away the salt". It rains overnight which then turned into sheets of ice on our roads due to the roads not being treated at all. They decide to pop out and start at 7.30am. So this morning, our road network was gridlocked during the rush hour. The surrounding council boroughs gritted their main roads twice.

Took me 2 hours (normally a 35-40 minute round trip) to get my son to school today. My daughter didn't get to school (having left home at 7.25am) until 10am.

Max temperatures today in the Midlands, 4C/ 37F

I'm located between the two of you, and we've not had as much snow as musicalpilgrim. Although I like it (and think it looks very pretty in the picture musicalpilgrim :)), I can understand, lotuspetal, how frustrating it is with the roads gridlocked. I can't believe they didn't grit/salt them ; it's so irresponsible. I've driven on an untreated A-road once and it was terrifying.

Here we've had some lovely sunny mornings and rain in the afternoons, but by the time I went out today it was dry. It has turned colder, 1 C, but I there is no wind, so with warm clothing it was enjoyable.
(Why shorts in winter? :eek::D)

We had a high today of 57F and the low will be down in the 30s. It's still a beautiful day.

Wow! That's warmer than I like in December, but I'm happy for you and others who are used to it! :)

Ahhh gotcha - my late dad taught us all how to drive and he took a lot of time showing us how to cope in an icy skid. I am so thankful that he did that with us as I sure used it yesterday morning, lol. My daughter asked me today how fast I was going when I lost control of the car and was incredulous when I said about 5mph. I explained that the slightest quick turn of the wheel caused the car to skid. Her original school bus could not get up a hill with the bus full of passengers so they all had to vacate the bus so that the driver could park up.

Thank God the council were out today so that all the main roads had been gritted.

I love those crisp sunny winter mornings, they are so beautiful to walk in too.

Today is thankfully cloudy and so not as bitterly cold. Our current temperature is 4C/40F

It's 62F and overcast here today in Central Oklahoma. Our low tonight should be 47F according to the weatherman. It's a pleasant day.

Gosh, you have been having a lot of snow and ice. I remember being taught something about how to handle skids. Was it to turn into them? I can't remember - I haven't driven for many years.

I love walking in crisp winter mornings too. :)

I think it's a bit milder here, but I haven't been out today so I'm not sure! :D

On Tuesday it's supposed to be 47F. :( On Dec. 23 we're supposed to have snow showers. I hope we do! But on Dec. 24 and 25 it will be cold without additional snow.:(

Sure! But that doesn't help in a four-wheel skid....
Leave the accelerator alone....
[raise your arms around your head 'and wait it out']

With ice [possibility of it] on the roads
your speed, should be well-below the usual road limit
Leave the brake alone.....
Use the 'transmission' to slow the vehicle, you need 'traction'

A 5 mph skid, is more survivable than a 40 mph skid
and getting to your destination safely, is the whole point of your journey (?)

Part of the trouble with icy highways going into a city are the inexperienced drivers who might slide into you!

Hi pheobe... that looks treacherous! Praying for safety for you and that you keep warm.

Our forecast said 48.F

but that is frost out there on my neighbour Brian's car

While I am not saying that forecasters are, 'telling-lies'
they RARELY get it right

Letting some air out of your tyres (@ 5lbs psi)
can assist them to gain purchase ~aka: grip / traction, on frozen snow / icy surfaces
just saying_

The mixing of crossply with radial tyres can prove fatal
even in good weather and reasonable road surfaces

Well, on the other side of the globe we have plenty of sunshine and warm temps with a little breeze to keep things cooler. Lovely weather all round the country again today. :)
