  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The left has been losing because of a wave of nationalism and protectionism spread across Europe and the United States.

That too. The left has too long been promoting
socialism, multiculturalism and open borders,
weakening all free countries, especially the USA
and Europe.

The other has party leadership that has decided to play favorites and pick "The Golden Child" and ignore the will of their voters even though much better options were available (and that their voters actually liked better)

Agreed on Hillary and Bernie.

Why should he have to give us anything? We are, as he has sais, simply acknowledging reality.

And the political reality is quid pro quo.

As always, however, Donald and reality are rarely on speaking terms.

What actions has Trump taken that lead you to believe he is combating corruption in DC?

Just one example would be his constant tweeting about fake news (true statement), calling out those who repeatedly slander him and his family. Changing some of the last administration's deplorable (dang there's that word again), actions. Sure he is working daily to find more ways to "drain the swamp."

By filling his administration with the corrupt, he is effectively getting them off the street.

Nope, you have the wrong administration being filled with the corrupt. Actually, this administration is effectively even if slowly, cleaning out the corrupt.

I'm confused how are those actions "draining the swamp"? My understanding was that he was going to root out corruption in Washington. Tweeting about the news, calling out people who slander him personally, and changing the previous administrations actions do not seem to me to be about fighting corruption in DC. How are those actions combating corruption?

What do you suggest he should do? What action do you propose he should take?

Calling out lies, false claims, undoing harmful legislation seems a good place to me for his to start.

I'm not proposing he take any action. I am questioning your view that he is combating corruption because I do not see him as doing so. In my view if he was combating corruption he would not be putting people in regulatory positions that are ideologically opposed to the division they are supposed to lead.

Calling out lies, false claims, undoing harmful legislation seems a good place to me for his to start.

How about starting by dealing with the things everyone thinks are corrupt? Such as limiting the amount of lobbying and ensuring appointments are given to competent people who have a mission to root out corruption? This, to me, would be where to start in cleaning out the system.

He is getting rid of federal prosecuters and a boy scout FBI director. That's draining the swamp for Trunp.

That's a GOOD question. I wonder how hillary is doing. I wouldn't be too surprised if she's on par with donny boy.

What I "like" about the trump approval slide is that it consistent and constant....going DOWN. It isn't up and down up and down. What that means is the people that held up their nose to vote for him have, likely, given up on him. And if they do, it's not because the "republicans aren't following him"; it's because he's a GARBAGE president.

At least that's how read it.

Cleaning out the "Corrupt"
Have you looked at Trumps record?

Before you rush to judge Trump, have you examined Hillary's record, Obama's record, L. Lynn's record, Rahm's record and I could go on and on and on.

Whether or not past presidents were corrupt or not isn't the point.

The point was about Draining out the Swamp. Trump's undeniably completely dirty, and unreliable.

Oh please!! The swamp has been created over many, many years and past presidents, congresspeople, certainly do matter.

As for President Trump undeniably being completely dirty and unreliable, I most certainly do denie that.

No it doesn't. You're talking about Draining the Swamp. Trump has proven himself that he has been doing nothing but filling the Swamp.

Apropos of nothing, I've been reading a lot of Aristotle lately. Some commentators have criticized Aristotle's descriptions of the Sophists, saying that there could not possibly be people so intentionally dishonest and that Aristotle must have been misrepresenting their arguments and beliefs. But there are so many places you can look around today and see exactly the Sophists that Aristotle described.

How about we address the president before dealing with the distractions?
