  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have often heard preachers say, "Don't listen to the news!" And then give reasons why you should not. On the other hand, I believe that there is a way to listen to the news, and that is to listen carefully, and at the announcement of any problem, disaster, trial or testing for anyone, to pray for those people, that God will help them, heal them, intervene for them, shed grace upon them, and so on. Even if someone dies, we ask that God have mercy on their souls, and for children, give them the grace of baptism.

God, who is outside of space and time is everyplace at once. If He says yes, even if someone is dying, the Holy Spirit can give them the grace to repent. He is God, isn't He?

I don't know how much the prayers of one or two people can do, but if ALL Christians were praying for the souls of the people that were praying in that mosque in Egypt where over 300 people were killed, if it is His will, how many could be saved?

I agree. It's a "ministry" and it's needed. The "news" is God, "nudging" us to pray for whatever is going on that we hear about.

God bless you.

Father, of course I don't agree with praying for the dead, or for children to be baptized just for the sake of being baptized, or that all Christians will pray for the same thing, but I do pray that some will start listening to the news with a spirit open to You to pray about what and who they are hearing about. I pray they will learn to pray as the Scriptures teach us how to pray, pray effectively and with power in the Holy Spirit, to Your glory, and people's blessing. Amen.
