Doesn't matter what Rev David Engelsma says.

I wonder who has studied the Bible more? You or the Rev?

When the word world was used in the Bible it did not have the same meaning as today.

Who do you think studied the Bible more? You or the Pharisees in Jesus' day.
What about the Pharisees versus the Apostle Peter. Peter was unlearned and ignorant, Pharisees were well educated.
Following your logic, you should accept what those Pharisees said and not Peter.

J. Macarthur | Did Jesus Die For Everyone or some?

John Macarthur says one thing, the Word of God says different.
I think I will stick with God's Word.
Galatians 4:4 says that Jesus came to redeem them that were under the law.
We have 2 choices here as to who was under the law.
Just the Jews or all the world.
Romans 3:19 says, Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
John M. = just a man
God = Highest Authority for all time.
Better to stick with God.

John M. = just a man

But, not your average Bible scholar.

He has preached the word for over 60 years.
Written his own commentary Bible.
Has his own Seminary college.
Studied every verse of the Bible in depth in Greek and Hebrew.
Never takes a verse out of context.
Has trained many, many a good pastor.

I think God knows the Bible better than John M. does and He said quite a few times that He died for everybody.

I said:

Seriously? My point was that I'd rather stick with what the Bible says than what another human opines.

But since you're into wondering, how about wondering who has read through the NT monthly more.

When the word world was used in the Bible it did not have the same meaning as today.

M-Bob
So today the word "world" only means a subgroup of the human race?? Only to the reformed. And without any evidence from the Bible.

In fact, to the contrary, the Bible plainly tells us who Christ died for: all. Without further context to limit the word to "less than everyone".

Just as I thought. Just words you put in a post when you have nothing to say.

Cool, at least I know what your all about and won’t bother trying to hold a conversation since you have nothing but empty words to say.

I have done some research and found out why you think Jesus did not die for everyone.
Attempting to use John 11:51-52 (an entirely different book) as the basis to make the "World" refer to Gentiles.
But, in the same book, John writes 1 John 5:19,
We are of God and the whole world lies in wickedness.
So he is saying that unregenerate people are the world.

Monergism vs synergism
Monergism says that it is all God and none of man.
Synergism says that man must cooperate with God to be regenerated.

Throughout the Bible we see God giving man a choice, obey and be blessed, disobey and be cursed.
In Psalm 32:8-10 God says
32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
32:9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
32:10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

Here He is telling us we need to make the right choice.
Then In Isaiah 1:18 He says, Come let us reason together, though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as wool,
though they be red like crimson they shall be white as snow.

Our part is to say yes or no, once we say yes God takes over and does His part.
All glory goes to God, we get no glory whatsoever.
He did all the work, all we did is give the go ahead.
I will glory in the cross, not my agreeing to God.

No doubt God calls us to repentance! Those scriptures don’t prove your point that man has the ability to come to Christ. Jesus said, no man can come to me unless the Father draws him... But the inability of natural man, who is dead in sin, will not and cannot come to rest in Christ and see his own sin and guilt. Natural man is held in bondage by his own sinful nature. Romans 8:7 states, Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.. 1 Corinthians 2:14 states, But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.. So the act of believing is an act of grace by a changed heart of regeneration, by the hearing of the gospel

Who gives us the ability to say yes to God when the Bible says None seek God?
He gives the ability to say yes or no. Otherwise why would He want to reason with us. Jesus said He came to seek the lost, not the elect.

But the inability of natural man, who is dead in sin, will not and cannot come to rest in Christ and see his own sin and guilt.
The Holy Spirit convicts of sin of unbelief.
He convicts the world, not just the elect.

Both of you only answered the 2nd part of the question I gave about 1 John 2:2.
