What happened to truth..
The Renaissance..the birth of humanism. It switched positions for God and man; instead of God being the measure of all things, man became the measure. The humanist were sure that man could solve every problem.
For awhile these "learned thinkers" attempted to deliver the truth, and yet the truth-the truth without God, remained elusive.
In time people came to the conclusion that there is no truth.
Modern man, whether he realizes it or not, is governed in large measure by this pessimism about truth..
Postmodernism, belief that there are no absolutes, including truth. People construct their on "stories" or narratives, what is true for one person might not be true for another.
Now truth is relative to each person.
This is exemplified in today's dismissive, "Whatever."
People don't care about anything so long as it does not hurt them or personally affect them.
When asked, "Is something true?" they respond, "Whatever!"

What are your thoughts?

There's a lot of truth to what you say.

Another aspect of this is the fact that the term 'humanism' can be used in two rather distinct ways.

One is the way you have used it, to refer to secular humanism.

The other is its use referring to the study of ancient languages. (In some Scottish universities, this is what 'humanity' still means; and at Oxford 'Lit.hum' refers to this also.) During the Renaissance or revival of learning, which the Protestant Reformers drew on very substantially, the methodology of establishing we sourced texts - which Valla and Erasmus others developed - proved to be a great benefit to the Bible translators who successfully demonstrated in many languages what the original Greek and Hebrew said, rather than rely on the idea of an ecclesiastically approved version - by which ecclesiastical approval (or otherwise) soon came to mean more - practically speaking - than the integrity of the text itself.

Today's 'fundamentalists', 'evangelicals', 'conservative Christians', etc., draw very heavily on the methodologies of Protestant Reformers and Renaissance scholars.

TRUTH: Jesus was asked: "What is truth?"
Indeed, what is truth. The only truth is Elohim, God The Creator. That leaves all of what ordinary men say and teaching requiring close reading to see if the writings do indeed contain truth: What is truth?
Truth comes from God through the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ taught the truth of what was given to Him from His Father."I have given Them Your word"; said He. He did not give the Jews His words! That statement opens up a deep study for those who understand what Jesus was really saying. How did He get the Father's words, where, and when?
Whom did God send to the Jews? He sent the One who was to become Jesus Christ in the flesh, The anointed One of God.
Consider what Jesus ask Peter closely: Whom say You I am? Peter said: You are Christ, The Son Of Man. Jesus then said Peter was blessed by understanding that!
Consider this verse:
Luke_3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
Jesus was the son of Adam! Who was the son of God. This topic is being covered in my book which I am working on, and have been, for the last four months. This is why He is called The Son of Man.
This then shows that He was not God as is commonly taught in today's false churches.
John_20:17 Jesus said unto Her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
This is indeed a very brief writing which needs to be studied by the serious Bible student with prayer and in depth. May it help those who eyes have been opened to today's false teachings in the churches. There is only ONE CHURCH, Christ Jesus.

Generally, people fear the truth. They do not want to know the truth. They prefer to hang onto anything that will not threaten them. They fear the truth will expose their vulnerability. Fear losing any form of self-esteem, or humiliation. This world is geared even moreso these days towards bolstering one's own ego.

Nothing has happened to truth. Truth is the only reality. Anything not true is not real, but a deception of sorts. The world is busy creating cover-stories, that cover the truth, so they can feel safe.

So, what happened? Humanity is going deeper into denial, and proclaiming innocent ignorance. But this too is a deception. For we have to know what they are denying before they can deny it. In the end, they will have to admit they knew all along that they turned their back on truth out of fear of losing their ego-self _ their false self. That is why Jesus said Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. Matthew 10:39

Truth comes from God. The scriptures say everything we need to know. There is no other truth.

We may not need the "truth" that allowed mankind to build the computer you typed that message on, but I think we would all be poorer without it.

Humans are so caught up in an iceberg principle of only seeing 10% of what is. 90% is hidden. Jesus was teaching us about what is hidden, where the Greater Reality and Truth is. That is why it takes faith to look deeper than what is on the surface.

For instance, most people believe they are flesh, but the Truth is, they are not flesh but have flesh. Like a car driver is not the car, but they have a car. We are not here for the self, we are here for the One who sent us.

In these days of fake news, when opinion seems to override fact, I find the words of John Lennon to be applicable:

I'm sick and tired of hearing things from
Uptight short sided narrow minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth, just give me some truth
I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic psychotic pigheaded politicians
All I want is the truth, just give me some truth

In these days of fake news, when opinion seems to override fact, I find the words of John Lennon to be applicable:...
Very good Dave.

That is why I am a hermit. I live in silence. Have not watched TV, listened to radio or music for over ten years now. Don't even know who our prime minister is. Whatever I hear from others talking to each other, nothing has changed; same old stories. My days are largely spent being creative and expressing gratitude for the Truth. The more truth one sees the less reason to engage with worldly concerns. Truth is rare unless one stays with it.

The worldly world shuns the truth. It's always somebody elses responsibility. I prefer to be responsible to God (Truth) than anything else. Truth really does set one free, from fears, which this world is based on.

Buddhism teaches that if someone says they are a seeker of the Truth, to listen, and see what they have found. If they say they possess the Truth, run far away.

That is my experience with so many people within the faith. They are happy to talk, demand to be listened to, but refuse to listen.
They quote the bible, read it superficially, or out of context, then declare not only that they are right, but that it is the command of God. Fortunately, for many of us, we have read the bible, and when Satan tried to tempt Christ, he quoted Scripture, or rather, misquoted Scripture, so just because one quotes the bible, doesn’t mean they understand the truth behind the quote.

Example: Someone used to quote to me:
Romans 12Let love be unfeigned: abhorring evil, cleaving to good,
So, she was loving God, and abhorring me because I am gay.

Read the text. So off base.

In the story of the woman who was accused of adultery, Jesus indicates that none of the accusers is without sin (excluding Christ), so they could not cast the first stone, or had the right to judge her. Christ did. Christ could have cast the first stone, which may have caused some legality problems for murder under the law of the land. But, and this is very important - he says that he doesn’t not condemn her, forgives her sin, and tells her to go and sin no more.

Point of a number of the Christians I interacted on the board? Jesus commanded her to stop sinning.

In Uganda, Steven Lively, and evangelical Christian, used lies to convince the government of Uganda that gays were a threat to children, family, Christianity, and society itself, in order to get them to make homosexuality illegal punishable by death.

And lastly, Christ said that all men will know us by the love we show others.
One poster said, “It says the love we have for one another.” Really? You don’t know the verse “don’t even the heathens do that?”
Because Christians are often known as being condemning of others, forgiving of themselves, often supporting discrimination, focusing far more on the sins of others rather than helping the poor, the underprivileged, elderly, single moms and children, they have to rebrand, so that is

because it’s tough love. Discriminating is being loving. Harassing someone is being loving. Rejecting someone is loving. Being harsh is loving. Kicking a teen out of your house is loving. Mocking another’s religion is being loving. Telling gays they should be killed and are going to hell is loving because it is meant to discourage the behaviour, and doesn’t really do much to change anyone. Or Christians saying, “Sexual Orientation is a choice,” despite Exodus International saying that it failed 99.99% of the time, despite many “ex-gay” people that got married to a woman, had children, and realized they hadn’t changed, but ending in divorce, the lie just hurt the entire family.

I could go on. But if you want to know what happened to the Truth, people rely on their own opinions and refuse to seek the HS in prayer. They believe what they believe, then find passages in the bible to support it. Then claim it is irrefutable, because it is God’s Words - just misspoken, twisted out of context, sometimes to the point of meaning the antithesis of what it says.

So, might start there.

“In the 1950s kids lost their innocence.
They were liberated from their parents by well-paying jobs, cars, and lyrics in music that gave rise to a new term ---the generation gap.

In the 1960s, kids lost their authority.
It was a decade of protest---church, state, and parents were all called into question and found wanting. Their authority was rejected, yet nothing ever replaced it.

In the 1970s, kids lost their love. It was the decade of me-ism dominated by hyphenated words beginning with self.
Self-image, Self-esteem, Self-assertion....It made for a lonely world. Kids learned everything there was to know about sex and forgot everything there was to know about love, and no one had the nerve to tell them there was a difference.

In the 1980s, kids lost their hope.
Stripped of innocence, authority and love and plagued by the horror of a nuclear nightmare, large and growing numbers of this generation stopped believing in the future.

In the 1990s kids lost their power to reason. Less and less were they taught the very basics of language, truth, and logic and they grew up with the irrationality of a postmodern world.

In the new millennium, kids woke up and found out that somewhere in the midst of all this change, they had lost their imagination. Violence and perversion entertained them till none could talk of killing innocents since none was innocent anymore.”

You nailed it. This is the destruction of western civilization. How do you think a man who drew 6 circles on the ground for his speeches and couldn't fill them beat the man who drew tens of thousands to every rally?

The answer is he didn't, but whatever. Chistians, devout Christians, voted for abortion on demand, homosexuality, gay marriage, transgenderism, corruption in government and perverted justice, censorship, loss of religious freedom. We had a choice.

The church, itself, no longer stands for truth, why should anybody else in this wicked nation? God's judgment is not far off. The church must purge itself of these and other evils and stand with God and we must do it quickly or this nation will perish from the earth.

Do you support Islam, Buddhism, Judaism and atheism by supporting the Freedom of Religion?

Or do you oppose the constitution?

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

I agree with the OP. I still hold to the idea that there's an objective truth.

I think the post-modernist problem got its start with conservative reaction to evolution. That started many people thinking there was an anti-Christian conspiracy among scientists. That has slowly spread to other areas, to the point where now anything someone dislikes can be rejected based on attacking "mainstream media", and using the "PC" label.

Beanieboy, what are your views on Romans 1 ?
If you means in regards to it addressing homosexuality, there are a number of websites that discuss the clobber passages, like this one: UnClobber

Here, an author points out that to use the verses to condemn Christianity is doing the opposite of what he calls for in Romans 2, to stop judging each other because uou are not without sin.

Clobber Passage: Romans 1:18-27

But going back to OP, is it Truthful to be quoting Scripture out of context to suit your needs?
Is it Truthful to look at Romans, and not consider a society that was "worshipping the creation" had gods of nature - Venus, Zeus, Apollo. And they had idols. Romans and Greeks created the original Toga party. Men had sex with men for recreation, and with woman for procreation, but there was no gay/straight concept. The had pagan sex rituals, and often there would be both male and female prostitutesIn for these rituals.

In that context, one has to wonder what Paul is referring to. One also has to ask why slander and gossip are in the list, but never addressed by vocal Christians focused on the condemnation of homosexuality. Do they not care that gossips or slanderers won't inherit heaven?

I learned something from listening to a conservative youtube videi.

He starts with the idea that there is only one Truth.
The Bible is the inerrant Word of God, so if it says X the Bible, X is True because God said it
His position is therefore God's position. His Word's are God's words.
And who is the only one we should listen to? God. Where can I know God's mind? The Bible.

So, it offers no room for compromise. In fact, the more said Christian refuses to listen, the stronger it demonstrates their faith.

He warned about trusting your heart which is deceiving, using your mind and logic, bc our mind is not God's mind, and not to trusting your feelings.

In other words, agree, don't question, don't trust your inner compass, don't use critical thinking. Just believe me, I'm right bc I follow the will of God.
*****
This is a very different worldview that I hold. My understanding of God continuously grows. I can't claim to know the mind or will of God, but I can seek it. On the discussion of homosexuality, a Christian pleaded for me to repent. Explaining that I have been talking with God about tjis in depth since i was around 13, and still do, and I'm in my 50s, but agreed to pray to the Holy Spirit and asked to be shown if I was in error. I asked if she would agree to do the same
e, she refused. I explained it couldn't hirt, and she refused again, thinking it showed her string faith. To me, it showed a misguided faith, refusing to pray about something because her ego refuses to consider that she may be wrong, and she pleads for me to do something she refuses to do herself. Red flags everywhere. She leaves me with, "I love you, but hate yoyr sin." I said, "Thank you, I love you as well, and, I suppose I hate your sun, too"
"My sin???) What sin have I committed????"
"Well, for starters, "if we say we have no sin, the truth is not in us.."

So much of my faith involves the HS, my feelings of guilt or shame motivate me to right my wrongs. The Spirit weighs on my heart. God has always replied to me, usually a thought, like your conscience, and prayer is a dialogue. People "felt" that discrimination was wrong, the Viet Nam War wrong, and that moves to protest to change. The South used the Bible to uphold slavery, so either God was wrong, the Bible was wrong, or Scripture was misused.

Butfor conservatives, it seems the ends justify the means, so one can lie about, say, studies that have been disproven, present it as fact, if it discourages what they deem sinful scts.

I have to ask, why would anyone need to lie?
