  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I happen to be a Trump supporter and the children cannot help it ( ironically that was part of the thinking of the dreamer act. This is why I say give the parents a choice you can have them placed in the foster system ( which as most people know is overcrowded.), OR you can take them with you and upon attaining the age of 18 they will be permitted to return just as any other citizen who left the country for a time for any number of reasons.

That's not much of a choice -- either dump them into an inadequate system and make them pariahs here, or haul them to a foreign country or make them pariahs there.

No wonder Donald wants out of having to make this call...

Didn't answer the poll. Would have voted #3, but it was incorrect. Dreamers weren't born here; but they have lived here from very early ages.

I am sort of creeped out right now by the Machiavellian way this may turn out. Sen. Tom Cotton, co-sponsor of the RAISE Act (aka the give me your educated, your well fed, your rugged individualists yearning to be capitalists), has said he supports the Dreamers IF the RAISE act is passed (lowering hopes for immigrants everywhere...) Trump is giving Congress six months to pass immigration legislation.

I can see how this turns out already. Republicans pass draconian immigration restrictions involving lots of deportations but save Dreamers. Democrats vote against the bill.

The Koch Brothers come out with a nationwide advertising campaign: Democrats voted against the Dreamers!

So Machiavellian...so creepy.

In recent history, two nations put its own citizens in "concentration like camps" -- the US and Germany.

In far more recent history, only one of those two nations had its citizens calling for more citizens to be put in such camps again, and indeed, cheered a former law enforcement official who boasted about doing precisely that.

HINT: it wasn't Germany.

I might mention that concentration like camps in the United States goes back further than recent American history. The first concentration like camps was the Reservation system. The Reservations were also referred to as prisoner of war camps. For example, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, in South Dakota, is still referred to today as Prisoner of War Camp #334.

They just might -- a lot of people are none too pleased with Donald's announcement, and if Congress doesn't step in, the GOP will feel the brunt of their wrath come election time for being complicit.

I think the next election time may very well be like a 'day of wrath' for the Republican Party because the GOP and the Religious Right put Donald Trump into the White House. I think this political party will definitely feel some painful wrath and some major discomfort come the next election time.

I said let the parents CHOOSE. If they did take the children they ( the children) could upon reaching 18 come in the country just like any other citizen coming back from business or vacation abroad.

You are assuming the destination country would accept them. Remember, those kids are US citizens. You think poorer Latin American countries will happily provide welfare and education for thousands of US immigrants...?

I am glad President Trump is ending the "Dreamer" Act, good for him and good for our country!

Good for him, I can see... how exactly is it good for the country?

There are approximately 800K recipients of DACA. Their average age when they were brought to the US was 6. 91% are currently employed; none have any sort of criminal record (they would be out of the program if they commit a crime -- even a DUI is enough to get the boot)

A DACA recipient pays $500 every 2 years to renew -- do the math, and that by itself is $200 million/year in lost revenue should Donald pull the plug.

Now, add to that the study by the Center for American Progress, which estimates that losing DACA workers would cost the US $460 billion over the next ten years in lost GDP. A New Threat to DACA Could Cost States Billions of Dollars - Center for American Progress

(Then of course, there are the humanitarian issues, but this is Donald we're talking about, so that's a waste of breath...)

Now tell me -- what's the up side?

I would assume they would -- someone has to do right by the children; nobody expects it to be the US anymore...

I do not know hopefully I will never be in that spot.
Perhaps, then, you can see the wisdom of not putting people into that spot by changing the status of our friends and neighbors.

There is a difference in helping and emableing God has no problem with us enforcing laws of the land.
Do you know what's even better than enforcing laws? Making the law more moral.

Breaking on CNN, it's being rescinded.

With a long enough delay for Congress to hopefully step in and rescue America from its president.

DACA is dead.

Donald flushes a fortune so that a few of his base can cheer.

Maybe that's why he was such a shoddy businessman -- always cared more for the fame than the finance.

For a Christian Forum I'm amazed at the sheer amount of non-Christian responses.

I find it ironic that when the abortion debate surfaces so many Conservative Christians will move heaven and earth to save a 4 week old fetus that doesn't even have a brain yet...

However, when talking about INNOCENT CHILDREN those same Christians can't wait to transfer the sins of the parents onto the children and gleefully cast them out...

I guess there is a new new testament that I haven't gotten the memo on... :(
