  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump to almost for sure end the Dreamers Program (illegal immigrants)

If the Dreamers program is shut down.....

Get these people leaching off the system out of here. Thank God for President Trump keeping his promises.

I understand that the 'dreamers' do not qualify for welfare, so what is your problem...?

And you are not reading...

I referred specifically to the dreamers' kids...the children who have been born to those who arrived in the US earlier..

Is it the intention of Trump and his minions to deport US citizens...?

I don't think so.

Well, the options seem limited.

Either you deport all the 'dreamers' (at considerable economic cost) and somehow strike a deal with another nation to also take in the children of those people, who would be 'foreigners' to that country...

OR...You separate the dreamers from their children at the border...

Gee, I can't see any problem at all............

Kids raised in this country, educated in this country, and ready to go to work in this country, are an asset to this country. It would be crazy to throw that asset away.

Of course, since there are thousands and thousands of them, there are too many to just deport. They will become virtual slaves. Working for people they dare not mention their need for a minimum wage, for sheer fear they will be ratted out and deported . . .

This is just an example of how Trump reaches out to hurt people.
Well, we would not have to deport them directly. What we do is treat them like parolees for most people if they get caught say a traffic violation or littering something low level like that they pay a fine ( sometimes get a warning, but at most pay a fine and you are on your way. However, a parolee in the same position can be brought in on a violation. Do the same with them you would not deport them directly merely make them be VERY careful what they did because a mistake that for a citizen or legal resident even would have little effect could get them deported.

Can you show evidence that "these people" are "leaching off the system", or does it just make a convenient talking point...?

While reading that post, I thought of Jesus' parable of the Sheep and the Goats (Matthew 25:31-46) and what he said to the second crowd of people he addressed. It made me more thankful for the (liberal) Christians I know, otherwise I wouldn't be a Christian myself. I loved their witness.

Sorry to persist, but I really don't understand. Your government will act to send its own citizens to a foreign nation against their will (the dreamers' kids)..? What happens if that other nation refuses to accept these 'immigrant' children...?
They were not born here though. They were born in wherever their parents came from, but came over when they had no say in the matter and in many cases may not have even understood what was happening.

Well, we can give them a choice you can put your kids in an overcrowded foster system or take them with you, When the kid turns eighteen he or she will have the right to reenter as any other citizen who left the country on business, vacation whatever.

My response to Allan had nothing to do with enforcing laws of the land, especially in a country full of immigrants and the descendants of immigrants.
Jesus never once told us to enable people. If you need help that is one thing, but if you are just not doing your part then you hav no right to benefits.

At that point, the onus is on the other nation to do the humanitarian thing and keep the families together. Besides, sine the kids can't stay here, they literally have nowhere else to go.

How exactly are they leeching off the system? They're educated, employed, and btw, had to pay $500 just to register in the first place.

Well, we could put them in concentration like camps like you guys do.

In recent history, two nations put its own citizens in "concentration like camps" -- the US and Germany.

In far more recent history, only one of those two nations had its citizens calling for more citizens to be put in such camps again, and indeed, cheered a former law enforcement official who boasted about doing precisely that.

HINT: it wasn't Germany.

So you have no problem with Taxation and Taxing the Rich, that doesn't sound very Right Wing.
Taxes are needed to provide stuff in our society but yes I support low taxes.

It really is up to Congress to come up with something to deal with the mess of illegal immigration.

They just might -- a lot of people are none too pleased with Donald's announcement, and if Congress doesn't step in, the GOP will feel the brunt of their wrath come election time for being complicit.
