  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe you need to look again it is right in front of you (you quoted the Greek above from the concordance and lexicon of the word “rest” used in Hebrews 4:9

Hebrews 4:9, There remaineth therefore a “rest” to the people of God. The word “rest” used here means a keeping of a Sabbath. The NAS version of the bible actually translates Hebrews 4:9 as; “There remaineth therefore a [Sabbath] rest (4520) to the people of God.”

In Christ Always!
The word isn't rest in the Greek. Neither is the word sabbath in the Greek.

That's nice of you to say so.

There is only one way you and I can both be in a saved state with our views.
In rom ch14:1 Paul speaks of what he termed disputable matters. In other words you can take whichever view you like.
One disputable matter was whether all food is clean. The other:

One man considers one day more sacred/ holy than another. Another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind
Rom14:5

Yes, that sounds good to me.

God Bless!

I never said must obey this Commandment. I said should obey this Commandment as is worded in the poll question.

I based this on the 4th Commandment of the 7th day rest. The seventh day based on my research is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

The Lord says if you love me keep my commandments. I love the LORD so I want to obey His commandments. His commandments are to love God and neighbor (including enemies). The Moral Law or the Ten Commandments derive from these two greatest commandments. Hence, I try to follow these Commandments, as I think I should, because I love God with all my heart, all my mind, all my soul, and all my will and I love my neighbor as myself.
This is how you fulfill Christ's law/ commandments:

Carry each others burdens( love them) and so FULFILL the law of Christ
Gal6:2

I don't see how that can be related to the fourth commandment

Yes, that shows us how to love our neighbor which is one part of the Law. We should also not murder them, covet them, steal from them, lie to them,...

To show love for God, we have no other gods but Him, we make no graven images, we do not use His name in vain, we remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

In my view, Christ's commands in the gospels were all examples of: love God and love your fellow man. Hence gal6:2
The Christian is not called to focus on each and every literal command of Christ and strive to obey them all( lucky for them) but to concentrate on loving God and their fellow man. The more they do this, the more they will find themselves upholding the examples Christ gave in his gospel comnands

And I would say every day is the born again Christians spiritual sabbath when we meditate on Father and Son as they dwell in us and we in them through the Holy Spirit( john17:21)
And round we go in circles

I agree, follow the Holy Spirit in love of God and neighbor based on your faith in the LORD and you will be obeying the LORD.

Yeah, that is where we are stuck. I believe there is a daily constant rest in Christ but also a Sabbath day of rest.

And in my view God accepts both. Your way of seeing it and mine. As long as our view is based on sincere motives

Per Hebrews 4, the OT Sabbath rest was a type of the rest we will experience in the New Heavens and New Earth. Since we're not there yet, it still functions in this way and we still need it.

Except Sunday is not the Sabbath.

Hello Friend,

What you are accusing me of is not what I am saying at all. No one is saved by keeping the 10 commandments. God's Law only points out sin (1 John 3:4; Romans 3:20). All I have said to you is that Jesus says...
I'm still in a state of awe that pro law people take this approach. But then I understand the law understanding the same approach is taken.
"If you love me keep my commandments" John 14:15. These are the Words of Jesus to everyone.
These commandments aren't the ten commandments. This becomes more evident in John 15:10 which is avoided like the plague.
None of us can obey God without faith in God's Word. It is by Faith that God writes His Law of Love in us so we can walk after the Spirit. Love is the fulfilling of God's Law in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1-4). This is the operation of God as we have Faith in His Words. If we are willfully and knowingly sinning against God however, we are not following him and do not know him (1 John 2:4).
None of us can keep the law even with God's help. It we can, I invite you to name that person.

No, it is not. Friday sundown to Saturday sundown is. I believe the Lord's Day, referred to once in the Bible, is also Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

Living righteously and following the Holy Spirit takes a level of self control and a knowledge of what righteous is. The two greatest commandments define what righteousness is and the Ten Commandments hinge on those two greatest commandments.

I feel that if you believe the Ten Commandments lead to salvation then you are guilty of drinking the old wine but one should strive to live righteously. Jesus' burden is light.
Those who require observation of the law issued to Israel are putting wine in old wine skins.
