  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Homosexuals in the military, I am fine with. I'm not afraid of homosexual men.

transgender though... that's just... sick/weird/ I mean I am not saying homosexuals are normal and ok, but I do feel, in my experience, that there is a difference. A whole different level that I don't feel comfortable with.

Not because I think a transgender man will rape me, but a transgender woman. It's the same reaction as I have with the bathrooms. I don't care if transgender uses the same restroom as me. But I would be uncomfortable with a transgender in the restroom with my children or spouse.

I'm sure it doesn't make sense, and I am just being a bigot (or whatever), but it is the way I feel. and that's probably never going to change. Transgender are strange/creepy individuals. I believe they have severe emotional/mental issues, and it makes me uncomfortable.

Perhaps the majority of them have their head screwed on tight enough to not do anything, but because they have screws loose, I am automatically on guard. I'd feel the same way about a heterosexual anyone with screws loose.

I don't agree with the whole transgender movement because of my religion. However if one who is post-op can pass the psychological exam, I guess it is their right to join (right now). My personal view on transgenderism does not affect the right of someone to have the surgery and live their life as the new gender. Therefore, the president's personal view about transgenderism or the people who control him. This is what right wing conservatives call "legislating morality" which is basically what it is. A group of people don't approve of this population's morals so they are going to make it more difficult to live by those morals however they can. Since they can't outright ban the surgery or cross dressing, they will take away as much of their freedom as they can as I don't know,....a deterrent or something?

There have always been transgender Americans, or at least Americans with gender dysphoria.

And there has always been groups of marginalized people in America who have been oppressed and discriminated against because they are different (whether it was skin color, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation) or because their religion wasn't Christian. There are reasons why civil rights groups and social justice groups still exist in America today. I think it's shameful for America to still have these issues today, especially when there's so much bragging about American freedom and liberties.

Put them all in the same unit, company or battalion? Or is that a totally insensitive comment?

Kind of like "separate but equal"? Well, if that's the case, America has already had a shameful period in its history with separate but equal laws. I'd rather not see such laws come back or similar laws passed.

I think we could use all the help we can get in the military. If some future war happens and we lose because they had transgenders in their military and we didn't thats kind of a big deal.
In nuclear war your transgender status don't count for much.

Any time in military history anyone lost a war because of that?

There have always been transgender people in the military, and it hasn't caused any problems until people wanted them to stop serving.

There have always been drug addicts serving in the military too, that doesn't mean they just put up with it. The top brass apparently disagrees with you about it not causing any problems.

If they can pick up a gun and fight, and are willing to to protect this country, then I don't see why we shouldn't let them.
It will be interesting to watch them tortured on TV, to see them in prison camps, to hear of women being raped by guards ...... there's a military out there that endorses that.

You take pleasure in our enemies torturing our soldiers?

It is just the other way around. We endorse them, other religions hate them, throw them off rooftops, set them on fire in cages, rape the women, kill the children.....

O, well......... we need all the help we can get.....:help:  :swoon::doh::sigh:

I don't want to pay from my tax payers monies anything towards their many issues.
Special restrooms, special medications, sex change operations, change back operations, counseling etc etc etc...
Proven fact -- most have many issues and seek counseling.
And -- the majority of the ones in the Armed Services are pleased with this decision -- why not honor them? The ones in the trenches.

I am okay with transgendered people in the military. If someone wants to put themselves in harms way for the U.S.A., I have no opposition to that. However, I do not want military benefits to pay for gender reassignment. Fact is most private insurance companies won't pay for it so why should the U.S. taxpayer? If transgendered troops want reassignment and can pay for it themselves, okay with me.

Setting aside the moral and scientific arguments against transgenderism, if a person is already serving and is transgender, then it's probably fair to retain them. No one serving should be permitted to have gender reassignment surgery (and certainly not at government expense) if they haven't already had it. Trump is right. It is huge expense and burden on the public, long after the person leaves service.
