I've been to the Getty art museum a couple times many years ago and I really loved it. My favorite part was actually the garden. It was beautiful and I enjoyed taking photos there, and even finally got a photo of a bee.
From the actual exhibits, the painting that stood out to me the most was The Penitent Magdalene painted by Titian (Tiziano Vecellio). I thought he did a great job with her face, and tears.
When I took an art class in highschool my favorite painter was Van Gogh, and I think he is still my favorite famous painter. I enjoyed sketching the starry night painting. Unfortunately much of the pencil has rubbed off onto my sketchbook so it's not as clear as it once was.

Thank you, that's sweet of you to say. She's always been a talented artist in all mediums and was just messing around with some animal sketches when someone asked if she would do a picture of their dog.

I shared it on another forum and they asked if she would do a drawing of their family pet and would be willing to pay her. I forwarded the information and now, a few months later, she has a little business doing portraits for people of their pets.

She's a stay at home mom in Japan since her husband is stationed there with the Air Force and the portraits provide them some extra income.
I agree with @LadyOfMystery . She's very talented.

So, it's no longer a clear night? Sorry, couldn't resist...:holy:

My medium is camouflage jobs on firearms... Hey, it's kinda' like art! I've done a few firearms for friends and plenty of my own.

I just painted a slide on a Glock 10mm that's used as a hiking gun.

It would take a special kind of creativity and patience to do that I would think. lol

Well, not unless he forgot to turn the safety on whilst painting the trigger. Because he'd very soon be meeting another creator.

Yes. Is that one you enjoy?

Yes it is! I've heard different stories about it. I've heard that her wheelchair is just out of view of the painting and she's a very independent girl who's determined to make it to her house on her own. But I've also heard she had mental issues and fell and couldn't make it back to her house. So I don't know which one is the true story.

Caravaggio for his complex use of lighting and shadow to create this real sense of drama and intensity in the narratives of his paintings. His piece The Calling of Saint Matthew, is possibly my all-time favorite painting. The Crucifixion of Saint Peter, and Saint Jerome are also absolutely stunning pieces.

Jan Van Eyck is a close second. His polyptych, the Ghent Altarpiece, really stirred me the first time I saw it. The realism of the details in each panel are absolutely incredible. Christ the King in the Center, the Blessed Virgin Mary to his right, Saint John the Baptist to his left, the musical angels outside of each of them... it's staggering how beautiful that is.

With the exception of Jackson Pollock (who grew up in my town, by the way), all of my favorite art is religious art. Michelangelo, Rogier van der Weyden, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Giorgio Vasari, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and my architectural hero, Filippo Brunelleschi.

Il Duomo di Firenze, Filippo Brunelleschi, 15th century, Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.

Fun fact: the design and construction of the dome was so complex and ahead of it's time, that Brunelleschi actually had to even design the machines that were used to build it on his own, because no other contemporary devices existed that could accomplish what he planned to do. Leonardo da Vinci was so impressed by Brunelleschi's machines that he drew sketches of them, and is actually (wrongly) credited with the invention of these contraptions.

That is absolutely stunning... The first picture especially.. and then for me the 3rd and 5th picture down are just wonderful. Such creativity and talent, it truly is a gift from God to have a talent like that.
