Yes, a Christian must go to church every Sunday.

Perhaps the clearest reference comes from the book of Hebrews. Hebrews 10:24-25 instructs us "And let us consider how to stir one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Corporate worship, the writer argues, is not something which a believer should neglect/forsake.

When we scan the Psalms, for example, we see the Psalmist yearning for a meeting with the Lord (Ps. 65:4; 84:2), and calling God's people into the courts of the Lord (Ps. 95:1-2; 100:4). It is his heart's desire to come into the Lord's presence and worship. There's nothing more important that he can do. To neglect the worship of God, therefore, is to give something a higher priority than the worship of God.

Since the church, following the practice of the apostles (see Acts 20:7), has recognized Sunday as the Christian Sabbath, the day in which we are to be caught up in the worship of God, there can be no higher priority than to gather with God's people on that day for worship.

And so, is it necessary to attend church every Sunday? The answer must surely be yes, because God has forbidden the neglect of it, and to neglect it is to treat the day as common, not holy.

We cannot get spiritual nourishment without Christian community.

We cannot get spiritual nourishment from a "me, myself, and my Bible" mentality.

We should want to go to church to glorify the Lord and for fellowship with other Christians. I see it more as a sincere desire to go to church rather than an obligation. Everyone will have circumstances that cause them to miss... make no weak excuses for yourself though.

A Christian must go to church every Sunday. If you want to grow in your faith — if you hope to become a mature, actualized, fully functioning Christian - you must go to church every Sunday

You must join a congregation, stay there for the long haul and become an active participant. You must not only attend but get involved. Church must become a central priority in your life.

No , you do not have to do anything .. You are free . If you feel you have to be at church every Sunday instead of just desiring to be there then you have a law instead of willingness .. The Word says do not forsake the assembling of yourselves , there is no time or day designated .. Then some folks have to work on Sunday .. I worked for years and couldn't make it to church on Sunday so I had church at work every day with other Christians .. Peace ..

There is no obligation to go to organized religion at all. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. I have had nothing to do "Church" for 10 years.

KAC I attend church regularly every Sunday and I believe in the value of it. I would never make it a rule or requirement of righteousness. If you think your righteousness is wrapped up in mandatory church attendance, your church hasn't taught you very much and I'd consider finding another.

You are correct. Church attendance is not mandatory. However, the Bible encourages Christians to meet together.

Hebrews 10:25 We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming (GOD'S WORD Translation)

Agreed. Christians meeting together can also be 2 people talking about spiritual things or doing Bible study together

I like going when no one is there too because the acoustics make me sound like a better piano player

But I like going ore when my brothers and sisters in Christ are there because we have great fellowship together hear the preaching and teaching of God's Word worship together and encourage one another

I do this time to time with a couple guys and the response from strangers who see a few men with their bible open and their heads quietly bowed in public is amazingly positive. The last time I did this a stranger invited himself to visit with us and we talked for over half an hour. It was great. People are always favorably impressed and one guy said it made him so happy to see men praying and reading their bibles in a public place. You don't have to recruit people like when you try to get them to church. Outside the church, they recruit themselves. It will never replace church, but it is a very healthy thing to do.

That's because Heb. 10:25 does not tell us to go to church like everyone seems to think, but it tells us to meet together. Of course going to church is meeting together, but so is people getting together outside of a church building. I believe formal worship in a structured church is very important, but it is not the only answer to Heb. 10:25.
