Regarding the issue of work, the idea is that we are meant to be working for love. So the issue will never be about working vs not working, but rather why we work. God wants us doing it because we want to help our neighbor, and not because we're afraid that we'll die if we don't get something out of the deal.

My Response: Well if you don't work you die... so logically part of the reason we work is to not die. YOu can try to work your away around it but you can't deny that truth. JESUS says man shall not live by bread alone sure...but he said bread alone not bread, which means we need to live by bread along with something else... We work so we don't die.

So what can we do to deal with the preponderance? That is what the world sees.

My Response: not much we can do our part of spreading the truth though, based off the bible it will always be this way and it was even during the days of acts.

If the only example of forsaking all we had was the church in Acts after Jesus ascended, then your case would be stronger, but the video shows that this teaching was found all throughout the gospels. This was before they even understood that he was to die on the cross, much less that he would come back for them afterwards.Besides, if you really believed Jesus was coming back and everything would change, what would be the point of selling everything?

My Response: I'm not saying this teaching of giving what you have for JESUS isn't true, but rather the people of acts gave it all because they suspected JESUS was coming soon. JESUS showed with the rich man that we must be willing to give it all...but JESUS also shows with people like David that he can reward people as well, and it's not his will for everyone to be in poverty. He has a position for each individual economically to reach individuals. Honestly i'm not sure what why they sold everything, even if I suspected he was coming tomorrow would just keep my house and chill and wait tbh. But hey the bible says they did it and it indicates it was becuase of that reason. God was informing them through the NT no one knows the day or the hour to try and inform them of this.

Check out Acts 4:34-35. Does this strike you as desperate, dead-broke people? What I'm hearing from you is a lot of fear, and I don't blame you for that. The world has been taught for years that we should be afraid of living without money, that money makes the world go round, that money is what gives life (i.e. earning a living).

My response: Nope becuase they believed JESUS was coming soon, if you're sure in your mind he's coming next week or the next day why feel desperate? But we know better... that it's been 2000 years so we manage our income and ensure we have enough money, becuase we know when he comes isn't certain. And money does make the world go round after God.... this is a world of materialism and sin, money matters here.

And what you call fear I call not being stupid. IT's good to manage your money.

When one is filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, GOD's love is poured into your heart and that love just overflows on all

The first church was a testimony to the SPIRIT's profound work in the early believers and in community with one another

They gave and shared everything as one because of their joy and their great love for one another

Everyone has their reasonings for why they gave so much but my reasoning which I have divulged from my pastor as well as some reading in myself also includes the fact that they were simply devoted to God, devotion/a belief he's coming next week or the next day isn't mutually exclusive. Some even today have read books that indicated he is coming around a certain time and as a result they do this or that because they love GOd and anticipate his coming not realizing they are wrong about the time. Lastly it should be pointed out that the practice didn't last long, some say because it was difficult to do and was subject to abuse (sorta see this in chapters 4-6). But yeah even if you have a different view I feel it's hard to really say this practice still applies today, to sell everything I mean again wasn't done for long.

You have completely glossed over my post (#17) and totally missed my point!

Forsake everything... Sounds like a lot of work to me.

That is not me being down about having to do a lot of work. That is me trying to point out to you that THE VIDEO IS TEACHING A FALSE GOSPEL OF WORK YOUR WAY TO HEAVEN! Forsake everything is work. You have to read a little more than just Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, and the early part of acts. We are saved by grace through faith NOT OF WORKS (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Go back and read my posts and watch the videos. You desperately need to learn how to rightly divide.

Hi Peter. Thanks for the post and the encouragement. Can you quote the verse so we can rightly divide the meaning?
Ephesians 4:28: click check all the parallel verses there also, but yes the immediate context is of one who has been stealing and should rather work with his hands.

Coincidentally, the author just released an update to the video, addressing these kind of responses. He specifically addresses these two verses, too. I hope it helps to add some clarity.

I look forward to hearing what you think of the explanations provided.

That is me trying to point out to you that THE VIDEO IS TEACHING A FALSE GOSPEL OF WORK YOUR WAY TO HEAVEN! Forsake everything is work.

It's interesting how things can become so turned around. The video suggests people should be working for God, but some people see that kind of thing as "working one's way to heaven", whereas working for money is heavily defended.

To me, that presents a logical problem. If "working your way to Heaven" doesn't apply to working for money, isn't that because working for money isn't seen as working for God? In other words, working for the system isn't seen as bad precisely because it is not work being done for God. If it was work being done for God, then it would be classified as "working your way to Heaven".

It's just like Jesus said, "Why do you call me Lord, but do not obey me"?

The video said you are not a Christian unless you are a disciple. It said you are not born again unless you are a disciple. You are not a disciple unless you forsake all you own. In effect the video said you are going to hell unless you forsake all you own. Completely different from what Paul tells us.

The video is antichrist doctrine.

The PS video in post 52 quotes Paul in Galatians 1:8.

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that he have received, let him be accursed.

Paul tells us exactly what the gospel is in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 how that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Paul calls it "my gospel", he calls it "the gospel of the grace of God", and "the gospel of Christ".

When Jesus was walking around on the earth he preached "the gospel of the Kingdom". Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John preached the gospel of the Kingdom.

How can the gospel of the Kingdom be the same gospel as the gospel of the grace of God (Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again) when Christ hadn't died yet? When the gospel of the Kingdom was preached Christ had not gone to the cross.

There is only one gospel that saves today and that is the gospel of the grace of God.

Anyone trying to be justified by works because they are concentrating on the gospel of the Kingdom instead of the gospel of the grace of God will be told "depart from me I never knew you".

Anyone not sure what I'm talking about here go back and watch the video I posted earlier in its entirety. Mary's alabaster box.

Hi all. Here's another video. It's roughly 22 minutes long, but the last 3 minutes are a song. It's here in the controversial section for a reason, so be prepared for some pretty shocking observations. I look forward to some stimulating debate!

The context of Luke 14:33 is Luke 14:26-27 (Which does not deal with money but it deals with family).

Check out and read this article here:
What Does It Mean to Forsake All?

"Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house" (Luke 10:38).

If it was a sin to own your own house, then why did Jesus condone Martha's ownership of her own house by entering her house?

Also, one of the early disciples still owned his own home (of which some of the disciples had stayed at).

"Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and brought us to the home of Mnason, where we were to stay. He was a man from Cyprus and one of the early disciples" (Acts 21:16 NIV).

Also, the Scriptures say that if one does not provide for their own, they are worse than an infidel. So if you just quit your job and get rid of your house and you are living out on the street with your kids, that is not really providing for them. They can get sick and die without shelter and proper food.

In addition, it is not wrong to work at a job. Paul was a tent maker. But he worked so as not to charge for the gospel. This does not mean one cannot be a preacher and live off those wages, though. Paul also says, "The laborer is worthy of his wages." (1 Timothy 5:18).

We are saved by grace through faith but ...

There are no buts.

We are saved by grace through faith.

If you don't believe that you don't believe your bible.

Sorry, that is not the whole story or picture of what the Bible teaches.
James says faith without works is dead (James 2:17).
James says we are justified by works and not by faith only or faith alone (James 2:24).

The Scriptures also say that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

The grace of God teachs us to deny ungodliness (Titus 2:11-12).

You can deny God by a lack of works (Titus 1:16).

Your work or God's work?
God's work (of course).
For Jesus saves us both in Justification and in Sanctification.
To see verses on how Jesus saves us in Sanctification (See Titus 2:14, Ephesians 5:25-27, and Romans 13:14).

Anyways, it is nice that the author of the video wants us to obey Jesus. I believe in Conditional Salvation and I am strongly against Once Saved Always Saved. Understanding the proper view of salvation is an essential thing for a seasoned Christian. For there is no such thing as a saved believer who lives in a lifestyle of serious sin. However, the author of the video is making up a command that Jesus is not specifically saying, though. He is taking out of context what Jesus is saying in Luke 14:33; And let's just say I am not a big fan of prosperity preachers or in people living a life of materialism. Everything a Christian owns or everything a Christian does should be for the glory of God. But to say that Jesus wants us to live a life without any kind of possessions is a sense radical Christianity that does not exist. Were the disciples naked? No. Did not Jesus tell them to carry a staff when they preached? What did Jesus say to Judas when Judas said, "Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? " (John 12:5-8) ?
