Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are any of you familiar with the discussion around "planetary boundaries?" There are 9 of them, some are resources, some of environmental/ecological conditions. They were originally published in Science: Planetary boundaries: Guiding human development on a changing planet | Science. The paper proposes that there are "tipping points" beyond which our impacts will have fundamental and possibly irreversible effects. Climate change is only one of them.
There is a summary, without the usual image, at The 9 limits of our planet … and how we’ve raced past 4 of them and a presentation on Wikipedia that also includes responses and more references: Planetary boundaries - Wikipedia-
The discussion looks entirely at the technical/scientific aspects, not social ones.
Kate Raworth of Oxfam added the human and social dimension, that in my mind poses a greater challenge than the technical/resource ones - that of just distribution of the benefits of God-given resources among people, in pursuit of His Kingdom on earth. (She does not push this faith-oriented dimension in the paper but it seems very much in line with Christ's teachings.) You can download a copy at https://www.oxfam.org/sites/www.oxfam.org/files/dp-a-safe-and-just-space-for-humanity-130212-en.pdf.

Way back in the discussion there was mention that prices will push oil and coal out of the picture. In quite a few countries now, solar energy is cheaper per kWh than either oil or coal. Gas/petrol and diesel prices vary a lot from country to country so what is true in USA is not necessarily true elsewhere, and vice versa. Those countries that have higher oil-based fuel costs are investing a lot in renewables and many will reach higher proportions of total energy sourced in renewables much sooner that countries like USA and Canada. Since renewables are almost always local, this also means less vulnerability to disruptions in foreign energy supplies.

Yeah, many of them point to 2030 as the cut off point. Interestingly that is also when robots are supposed to be able to take over the world (possibly). Not kidding, look it up. But don't worry about any of that because it's all part of the tribulation. Oh and Jesus returns in 2029.

So instead of the critters described in Revelation we will have Arnold Swarzeneggers mowing us down while Jesus smilingly supervises the operation ? Quaint interpretations.

So robots will gain consciousness approx. in 2030? Please provide a source for that prediction.

No, :) but that's a really funny thought. "I'll be back"

Say! Those are really interesting videos and other sources! I'll be back after viewing them.
It hard sometimes on the internet to know if someone is serious or not but I liked the 'I'll be back' retort. :)

I just watched the first one concerning the micro chipped brain. Curiously I wrote a novel in which brains were microchiped in that manner. Never imagined that I would see the day that it would be just around the corner. Weird how society can be profoundly changed via technological innovations of this kind. Even the concept of what constitutes being human is affected since those being micro chipped are endowed with what appear to be superhuman mental abilities as opposed to those who aren't.

BTW
I appreciate all videos which are entertaining and informative. The "I'll be back" and the "say" which is in reference to the "Say! That is a nice motorcycle!" were just bantering allusions and not meant as retorts..

Say, in that case you might want to watch some of my personal End Times selection:

This is my favourite (I think).

General End Times Info

This is my favourite (I think).

I just watched the second one concerning the tipping points of a six degree rise in temperature which repeatedly caused catastrophic climate change in the distant past leading to mass extinctions and the unmistakable indications that we are heading straight for another albeit humanly induced one.

Not much hope was offered based on the observation that nations ignore the evidence and just plow ahead. What really impressed me was how once the methane lock in the ocean floors and in the tundra begin to melt, then the process is unstoppable since it is self perpetuating.

Thanks for the new video. Will watch!

Man's contribution to greenhouse gasses are negligible, and without those gases we'd be incinerated. I have no problem with investigating all energy sources, but for the time being, nothing can replace oil.
Six more degrees of temperature increase and we go beyond the tipping point.

-_- even if global warming isn't a thing, it's still valid to increase our use of renewable energy sources over ones which will run out. Burning coal and gasoline still makes the air quality drop, which has resulted in an increase in asthma attacks, especially in children.

Air pollution

Thick haze blown off the Eastern coast of China, over Bo Hai Bay and Yellow Sea. The haze might result from urban and industrial pollution.
“ In northern China, air pollution from the burning of fossil fuels, principally coal, is causing people to die on average 5.5 years sooner than they otherwise might. ”

Play media Map of PM2.5 pollution over China from April to August 2014.

Air pollution has become a major issue in China, and poses a threat to Chinese public health. Coal combustion generates particulate matter also known as "PM". Currently, Beijing is suffering from PM2.5, which is a particulate matter with diameter of 2.5 micrometers or less

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, such fine particles can cause asthma, bronchitis, and acute and chronic respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and painful breathing, and may also lead to premature death.[19] The Telegraph reported a case of an 8-year-old girl who had contracted lung cancer, becoming the youngest victim of lung cancer in China.[20] Doctors pointed out that the likely cause was exposure of air pollution, specifically fine particulates from vehicles. The case has gathered large national public attention and also international attention.

Shouldn't common sense tell us that everything has a tipping point beyond which it cannot be reversed. I mean, it isn't as if life itself doesn't teach us that very basic lesson. For exam0le, do enough damage to any relationship, be it friendship, business, or amorous, or family and there comes a point beyond which the relationship will not recover.

Stress a metal beyond a certain point and it will crack or bend.

Permit lawlessness beyond a certain point and it might became irreversible chaos.

So why should there be any difficulty in seeing this in relation to environmental stresses that we place on our ecosystems. Why should we be amazed that these tipping points exist? It doesn't make any sense.

Does He know that?

Well, he admitted not knowing the time when he was on Earth. I doubt that he doesn't know ever since glorification.

BTW
People or organizations that use specific dates to claim the end of the world aren't trustworthy. They will often lead trusting gullible people to waste decades preparing for an event only to find themselves frustrated and aged and then glibly make up some fanciful excuses tagging them as new light.

This video provides a very informative explanation about what would occur once our oil runs out and concerning the alternatives that might be employed in order to get mankind on its feet once more industrially. The question is if indeed algae is the solution as the video indicates, why not being the shift over to it now? Why wait for a disaster to strike?
Why?$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Perhaps each $ sign represents one billion dollars.

That's why.

What could they have done 100 years ago, to not even need any oil ?

INDUSTRIAL HEMP BIO-FUELS 50 CENTS PER GALLON!: Henry Ford On Industrial Hemp – Hemp General Information
March 17, 2014 by admin
Ford’s Hemp powered Hemp made Car

“Each acre of hemp could yield about 1000 gallons”

“30 Barrels of (Hemp) Oil Per Acre”

“Enough energy could be produced on 6% of the land in the U.S. to provide enough energy for our entire country (cars, heat homes, electricity, industry).

To put that in perspective, right now we pay farmers not to grow on 6% (around 90 million acres) of the farming land, while another 500 million acres of marginal farmland lies fallow. This land could be used to grow hemp as an energy crop.”

Excerpt: Green Visionary Henry Ford and his Predictions about Ethanol and Hemp based fuels.

***

Using the above figures, 100 million acres of marginal land could produce 100 billion gallons of bio-fuel…(3)three times a year, or 300 billion gallons per year.

To put that into perspective;
According to the federal government’s energy.gov website the US consumed approximately 140 billion gallons of gasoline in 2004.

U.S. motor gasoline consumption peaked at 142 billion gallons in 2007. In each year since, American drivers have used less gasoline. In 2012, gas use came in at 134 billion gallons, down 6 percent off the high mark.

Such ignorance seems to give them the impression that our present way of life which depends on the depletion of oil which is non-renewable is a permanent condition when it is indeed a temporary one soon to come to a sudden end with disastrous consequences unless we take precautionary action now.

If we started now, we could convert our entire power grid over to Thorium reactors and renewable energy within a couple of decades. We could even pay for most of it simply by ending the subsidies to big oil companies.

Nuclear power plant technologies in use today are simply *not* safe, even if they are reliable. If there's any part of our infrastructure that worth investing in, its an upgrade of our nuclear power plants and electrical grid.

We don't need oil, just power.

The Maldives plan to be fossil fuel free by 2020. Sweden, with a much bigger industrial economy is a little more modest but still plans to be there by mid-century. Already a lot of companies and municipalities operate on biofuels there. Biodiesel is produced from forestry by-products and mixed with ordinary diesel for use in regular diesel engines. Gasoline is mixed (5-10%) with ethylene and there are busses powered by canola (rape seed) oil. And of course electric vehicles getting their power from hydro, wind and waste-to-energy plants. (In Stockholm biogas is produced in the sewage treatment plant, but the outflow is still too warm(+/-20 degrees C) to release into the Baltic sea, so heat energy is extracted from it down to 4 Degrees. Other nordic countries also have ambitious plans to end the addiction to fossil fuels, especially petroleum.
