  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

I attended a few sessions of that at my former school in Marshall when they started holding Krav Maga classes on weekends. And man, that could be physically demanding, especially when they put you in the center of the ring to practice holding off multiple assailants who are circling you for five minutes straight. It doesn't sound like a long time at first, but it's the longest five minutes of your life and there is no pause button. O_O

Well yeah, Krav Maga was specifically designed to handle real life situations. It's the reason why the Israeli Defense Forces uses it and they are among the most hardcore military in the world.

Yeah , that's what i'd heard when my former instructor brought up the prospect of adding that class on.

I had some minor panic this morning when I opened my fridge and the light didn't turn on. It turns out that it's just the light that's not working and the fridge is fine, but thought did occur to me that if any other appliances stop working then I should be able to make a plan to get by until I get it fixed/replaced, but not for the fridge.

This guy just told me that the Brown belt ranking does not exist in taekwondo in an attempt to undermine me. I mean, maybe not in certain schools, but, ... I am pretty sure i didn't just have a 3 year-long hallucination of training in this style of martial arts and ascending all the way to this precise color of rank.

I retired on brown belt when I left karate. I was only a kid but it still meant something to work through the ranks and to learn what humility really was.

Even when I was a white belt, my instructor at 5th Dan was always humble and grounded, and treated me no different than himself or others higher up in the rankings like orange, green and blue.

It was also my earliest lesson on failure and how vital it is for our development. 1998 was about the time I failed my test for orange belt. I was devastated in the moment, but my instructor soon reminded me that I'd be a better person for it in the long run, because I would be forced to go back and retrace my steps and look for where I went wrong.

I firmly believe that karate made me who I am today. Whenever I screw up I always think back to those karate days. I should start again really.

As it should be. Generally throughout my all my time in the three different schools I attended, those of higher rank had never seemed to look down upon me in any way and always treated me with respect. In turn, I was more than happy to give them their due respect, in that case.

@SarahsKnight looks like I missed a good conversation on martial arts. Trust me when I say, you will not experience anything like Systema. Everyone serious about martial arts needs to experience it at least once in their life, you'll be doing yourself a favor.

Sadness isn't always a bad thing, sometimes it can produce beauty.

Yeah, you could say that I'm hoping sadness now will produce happiness in the long run.

Im not sure I was in this mystical land called "outside" and apparently when you go there you need some sort of protection from "the sun" apparently they have this mythical fluid called "sun block" that shields you from the dangerous effects they call "rays" which I can only assume is something like
52982953.jpg

that come out of this orb thing in the sky.

If you go unprepared it melts the flesh off your bones. It also causes your skin to "cry" which is apparently normal. The local in this mystical land call it "sweat".... :|

I never want to take that venture again...... its smelly, loud and over populated. I think Toropolus is a MUCH happier place.

Mythical fluid? Are you sure you're not talking about headlight fluid?
