That was my moms look, she wore those.

I wore the little post earrings for gymnastics and ballet classes.

I was too sporty for the big hoops!

I did go to christmas eve service as well as church today.

it was nice to devote praise and worship to god on the first day of the year!

It was a delight to see the church parking lot full of cars this morning.

lots of us wanted to start the new year out right.

how about you?
My wife and I heard a sermon from John 12, about the end of the Lord's earthly ministry just before the upper room ministry from chapter 13 onwards.

These days young ppl seem to be told to remove even tiny earrings/studs for sports, etc.

We had a quite peaceful Christmas, even though preparation always seems hectic.

I think staple gifts that work well are chocolates, earrings and cut flowers. (Maybe this is just an uncomplicated male view...)

I started one or two threads recently.

Blessings.

hello

I'm 55 today!

I loved my mood ring, platform shoes, and disco dancing.

mom wore go-go boots, false eyelashes, and short little dresses with cut outs in them and big loopy earrings.

I still love the beatles.

Welcome and Happy Belated Birthday.
And yes, those were the days! :D

Thanks for your nice comment about the UK! I've enjoyed visiting the States a couple of times (my father had cousins there.) :)
Hi! Happy New Year! :)
I've been to the UK several times, both for pleasure and business. Wish I could have spent more time outside of London, but oh well, hopefully next time. :)

What part of the U.S. have you visited?

We're out west, right next to the Continental Divide.

As I see it today, very similar to the 70's, where rings are huge, shoes do have, or had in the past few years, somewhat of a platform, (too bad the music is nowhere as fun as disco used to be), false lashes are in with big earrings. Not too far off.

Wonder what the next decade will bring... shoulder pads of the 80's? lol

Again, Happy Birthday!

We visited the SW from Colorado across to California and back through AZ and NM, as well as NY (but not NY city) and Washington DC. We took in some of the National Parks and the Grand Canyon, which were beautiful.

If you come back to the UK try to take in Bath, if you like history/culture and the Lake District for scenery! :)

Hi, Ms. Angela, a happy new year!

I talked to a lady in the fashion industry who said there was nothing new in styles: everything is in a pipeline for re-assertion and serving up once again eventually.

But a really radical fashion innovation which may prove to be mind-blowingly original and avant-garde in its cutting edge scope: bare earlobes and no visible tattoos... :)

Seems like you covered a nice portion of the southwest. It's pretty open country driving form CA through AZ and NM. Glad you enjoyed.

Yes, thank you for your suggestions. Will keep them in mind. :)

Hey there faroukfarouk! Happy New Year! :)

Yes, I totally agree. My grandma showed me that when I was in my 20's. How fashions just keep recycling with a few detail changes here and there.

At that time I was in need of an evening gown for an event I was going to in South America, and wasn't satisfied with what I was seeing. She pulled out her old dress from the 30's, and with a few tiny alterations I felt like the belle of the ball ;)

So I understand perfectly. :)

Maybe you saw my addition to the post you kindly commented on?

Didn't see it until you pointed it out - thank you.

You're funny! LOL!

About a decade ago we used to worry about those youth who'd get tattoos, thinking they'd have a hard time in corporate america with piercings and tattoos. BOY were we wrong!

For young ppl today, doing the tattoo rite of passage at 18 is not too different from getting the extra set of ear piercings that teen girls - and their moms - started getting 40 years ago.

A lot of Christian young ppl get faith based tattoo designs; my wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 inked on her wrist area; it was her favorite Bible verse and mine also; and I'm sure other conversations have also arisen as a result of her willingness to have it done (which for her maybe was the whole point).

Thanks for sharing that. :) I see what you're saying. I'm probably just old fashioned when it comes to tattoos and have very un-modern (like that word?.. lol) outlooks towards them.

We all have our legitimate likes and dislikes and why should I change mine because of other people's?

Of course, hard to deny the sea change in young people's fashion preferences; and the fact also that 59% - 70% or more of parlor clients in North America today are women, according to statistics.

So what's that gorge near Bristol with the suspension bridge by Brunel, was it? it's not quite the Grand Canyon, but impressive nonetheless... :)

Yes, it was Brunel, and you're talking about the Clifton Suspension Bridge. I remember it being lit up in 1959 as the centenary commemoration of his death. I think the gorge is known as the Avon Gorge. (Dave would be able to confirm that. :)) I agree it's impressive. Have you been there?

Decades ago, I have some memory of it.

I was also interested to learn that the Clifton Association for the Higher Education of Women was headed by Catherine Winkworth (1827-1878), the accomplished translator of a wealth of German hymns into English. (She seems to be regarded today as one of the founders of University College Bristol, which became Bristol University.)
