Apparently sane people who would like to actually put the TC on the courthouse lawn, unlike you, who blatantly violates the separation of church and state.
Oh, dear!

Maybe I should be made to take lessons in Separation from Church and State, eh?

We're a secular state, you blockhead. And before you whine about atheism taking over Murrica just like it took over the USSR, let me point out the difference between a secular state (one that does not interfere with, favour, or instate the laws of one religion over another) and an atheist state (one whose official state religion is atheism, the position that there is no God; frequently, will discriminate against or silence religious people).

See the difference? An atheist state is as bad as a Christian (Islamic, Jewish, Hindu, etc.) state, all other things equal, but a secular state is the best because it doesn't favour or discriminate against anyone based on religion.

Although most people believe the words "separation of church and state" are actually in the U.S. Constitution, the words cannot be found there. Rather, they are words penned by Thomas Jefferson in a letter which explains the First Amendment of the Constitution or at least Jefferson’s view of it. The actual words in the First Amendment of the Constitution read as follows: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. . . ."

“Wall of separation between church and state”—History of phrase

In the fall of 1801, the Danbury (Conn.) Baptist Association sent Jefferson a written address congratulating him on his election. In his reply on January 1, 1802, Jefferson penned these now famous words:

  • “. . .I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”Separation of Church and State in the Constitution

  • 'All these laws stating we can not pray, nor mention Jesus nor display the TC are a clear violation of the Constitution for they prohibit the "free exercise" of our religion.

  • The separation is not that there is to be no religion, but that religion will not be impeded!!

More like we're a Christian nation.

That's going to come as a real surprise to all those the Jews and Muslims we allow to live here...

Wow.

Just wow.

That is one sad train of thought.

We're "intruders" are we?

That's sad ... that's really very sad.

Sad but true.

You are confusing evolution and cosmology. When we talk of evolution, we normally mean biological evolution - the fact that living forms change over time, and the explanation as to why and how they do. Most Christians the world over believe in God and accept the reality of evolution.

So you would agree that it would be ok to teach that God created life using evolution?

As long as Christianity is not your official state religion, no, you're not a Christian nation. You're a secular state, and that's fine. Religious demographics shift all the time, but they can do little to change the actual nature of the nation.

The UK, on the other hand, is officially a Christian state, with the Queen being head of the CofE and all. Until that changes, it won't matter how many Brits follow other religions or are entirely irreligious.

Indeed; an individual's free expression of religion shall not be impeded - but not the government! Placing religious symbols in a governmental building favors a religion (unless you have every religion's symbols, which will be difficult to say the least). If you had a generic symbol, perhaps that would be fine - but no, that would favor religion as a concept, and what about the atheists?

Likewise, children can most definitely pray in school; the laws prohibit a teacher from doing so, because that would be favoring that religion, telling the children "this one is best". And there are no laws saying that you cannot pray, mention Jesus, or display the TC (on your property!).

I can't speak for Barry but it's the only feasible option as far as I can see, there are a few Christians in my family who subscribe to that view. One thing we have in common though is that we feel the YEC position is both foolish and ignorant.

Anyone who wants you to be can do zilch to make it so.

You're entitled to your own opinions, but not to your own facts.
Well ... to humor you further ... we'll just pretend we are and let the pro-Muslims ook & eek about the Ten Commandments on our courthouse lawns.
