• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Asperger's hasn't helped my relationship in the least. In fact, I would say I have a relationship with Jesus Christ in spite of it rather than because of it. It pretty much kills any effort I make to be active in the church. Everything about Christianity ran against the grain of my most basic instincts until Jesus gave me a new heart. Now I just wish He'd give me a new brain, too.
I wish I had a new brain... I have anxiety

God is working on it. (He takes His Time)
As you said "Jesus gave you a new heart.".
You will be comforted, greatly surprised, and more, to find out what else He has Planned;
if you do keep seeking God and His Kingdom.
What He has to Reveal is far beyond what you've thought and believed so far.

Do you play hymns etc most days on the piano? (I myself am rather out of practice...)
Absolutely. I play by ear, and I am very behind on how many songs I know. I stopped listening to Christian music around 1988. Since rededicating my life, I am trying to catch up!
I have vowed to learn a new song every week.. Sometimes, I learn two or three, depending on how hard they are and how quickly my worship leader needs me to learn them. I absolutely enjoy playing with the younger guitarists and learning all I can from them as well. (I play guitar too, but not at church)

Get yourself back into practice, farouk! :D You will enjoy it.

My wife and I do play the piano and know lots of the hymns; life is so busy that we rarely find the time for it. Glad your life is organized enough for it.

My daughter and I play duets...or sometimes she'll play guitar and I'll play piano or vice versa. We have some good jam sessions. Granted, we have some arguments too over where this/that chord change is supposed to happen, but it's all good.

You should surprise your wife and find something new to work on. It might be romantic!

Don't think I know that song, but it seems consistent with the need to be born again! (John chapter 3)

Oh so your daughter is old enough to play hymns on the piano, then! (Good that she's interested to do so, and not spend too much premature time on make up, boys ... everything in its place, of course.)

Some of the hymns I play I have known since childhood.

She's 17, and plays piano, bass and guitar. She's bipolar and I'm a higher functioning autistic, so between our miscommunication and assumptive musical interpretations, we somehow make it work. LOL

Oh, almost adult then.

There's a lot of innovation in music and playing the piano, of course. After all, jazz from New Orleans basically emerged out of innovative ragtime, etc., so miscommunication can be billed as innovative adaptation in musical performance. Great that you guys get along so well with your duets. (I once did some amazing duets with my wife's aunt.)

So does she play bass guitar as well as the smaller guitar? the bass guitar is the real hard rocker's instrument, anyway. Don't be surprised if for her big 18 b-day she wants something to do with hard rock or heavy metal, anyway. The big 18 is such a rite of passage in some ways.

She plays electric bass and acoustic guitar. She isn't interested in an electric guitar; thank goodness. She loves playing folk music and singing...if you can believe that. What 17 yr old kid does that? Mine. Not complaining!!! I asked her if she'd rather have an acoustic guitar or laptop for graduation and she said laptop....so, she's getting a laptop.

So a laptop for 18...(as well as the almost obligatory tattoo that they all seem to get, maybe.) I guess that if she is more into folk music than hard rock/heavy metal, the volume on the electric bass is not such an issue as it might be. (Sometimes it's soooo loud...) I reckon that all these things in the end contribute to the young person discovering herself as an adult, in the end.

(A good study Bible is another great acquisition at 18.)

I got her an Old Scoffield study Bible a few years back. She is due another one. Good suggestion!
She is planning to go to college so she will need a laptop.

Hope it goes well for her, both at college and with Bible study.

Found out through self-diagnoses that I have Asperger's Syndrome maybe a week ago. pretty much hit the nail on the head for what I've gone through my whole life.

I'm pretty much a loner. Christ is my best and only friend.

the LORD saving me 4 years ago helped me to deal with my "lonerness" in that I no longer need validation from others. I'm fine with who I am and the discovery of AS has only helped me in that respect.

I understand that I can't serve in the same way an NT can so I figure out ways to be a servant in my own way. I help clean up after fellowships meals, I pass out flyers during evangistic outings, I pray for people, and I tithe consistently.

I always think of the tale of the talents where the person with one talent wasn't punished for only having one talent but for not using the one talent they had. I seek to be a faithful servant with what the LORD has given me. If I do that, He'll give me more.

Seems totally out of place for a follower of Y'SHUA [Christian].
Especially young ones in the faith - very bad example.
Well, a lot of Christians get them; my wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area.
