Every elections cycle there are a number of organizations that do demographic surveys on supporters of candidates.

From the very start the Left and major media have portrayed Mr. Trump as a Clown with no chance of winning the nomination. 15,000,000 votes later he is the Republican candidate. Then someone picked up on a stat showing a group - white - males - with less than a four year degree favor Trump in a large percentage.

Hence - uneducated white males are what Trump supporters look like. And it has been become prolific.

Mike Rowe stated:

“To your point, the words ‘uneducated white men’ now appear in hundreds of articles about Trump. But if this is truly important information, where were these reporters four years ago? In the last election, an even greater majority of African-American males who voted for President Obama had no college on their resume. Maybe I missed it, but I don’t recall any headlines or articles that delved into Obama’s popularity among ‘uneducated black men.'”

“If the media didn’t care about the lack of college among black men supporting Obama, why do they care so much about the lack of college among white men supporting Trump? Moreover, when exactly did a lack of college become synonymous with a lack of education?”

It's and interesting read and raises some good points, but I'd like to explain why I believe this is just more Liberal Elitist Methodology. I have even heard one of the elitist say to effect, "do you really want Trump supporters to decide who will run this country?"

Like unless you have a certain level of education, you can't possible be smart enough and need people to help you make the right decisions.
daily-news-brain-dead.jpg

So who are these mindless zombies the elitist think need help in making the right decision?

Mechanics, electricians, stone masons, 40% of hospital staffing, bookkeepers, small businessmen.

How about virtually every Union member?
How about everyone that is looking for that 15.00 and hour job.
How about our civil servants, you know, the ones doing the real work.

The white man, who does my landscaping has a high school education runs seven teams of four and five employees. His company keeps 33 people employed full time and an income for he and his family that far exceeds the income my Masters Degree provides for.

Simply Put -

Not having a four year degree does mean uneducated in the sence that they are portraying it.

Thoughts?

I'm almost inclined to agree. Let's be honest, people without college degrees are not necessarily stupid, and painting them as such, or calling them "uneducated" is really kind of a low blow and misses much of the nuance present in that demographic. I never finished my college degree, but I'm still in training and will almost certainly come out of it with a highly-skilled, well-paying job. It would be an entirely fair statement on your part... if these people weren't also voting for Trump.

The 2016 polling has shown the the greater the educational attainment of a voter, the more likely they are to vote for H Clinton. Similarly, the lower the educational attainment of a voter, the more likely they are to vote for D Trump.

From Pew:
Among white voters, there is a clear divide in support by level of educational attainment. White voters with a college degree support Clinton over Trump by a 52%-40% margin. Views are the reverse among white voters without a college degree: 57% support Trump, compared with 36% who support Clinton.

From Purple Slice
Among all college-educated likely voters, including those with post-graduate degrees, Clinton leads 54 percent to 32 percent

From CNN/ORC
Trump has 66 percent of whites without college degrees to Hillary Clinton’s 23 percent. Meanwhile, Clinton leads among white college graduates, 49 percent to 35 percent

From Bloomberg Politics:
Clinton wins the college-educated segment by 25 percentage points, 59 percent to 34 percent. T[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]’s edge among those without a college education is 10 points, 52 percent to 42 percent. T[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]’s lead is 4-to-1 among white men with less than a college degree, 76 percent to 19 percent. Clinton’s advantage with college-educated women is 64 percent to 31 percent.

From Morning Consult:
The survey, which interviewed more than 23,000 registered voters from June 1 through July 14, found Clinton with a 17-point lead over Trump, 51 percent to 34 percent, among voters with post-graduate degrees.
What's most interesting here is that this has never been the case before. Historically, Republicans have at least matched Democrats in terms of votes among those with degree level education or higher, and have generally done better than Democrats, particularly among white college graduates.

What's happening now - the more highly educated segment of the specifically rejecting one candidate - has never happened to this extent before in US electoral history. Generally, the highly educated with vote down the middle, with a spread of +/- 5 percent. Vote splits of 57 percent based on education are unheard of.

To the outside world, D Trump really does appear to be a clownish figure, like a 1930s tinpot dictator resurrected from the pages of history - some of his press statements and ideological positions are downright buffoonish. If the US does elect him, I think the reaction among the rest of the Western world will be one of dismay, bemusement, pity and finger pointing/shaking our heads.

Question -

Is it accurate to portray people with no four year degree as uneducated?

No, it isn't accurate to portray people with no four year degree as uneducated; although they probably will be uneducated it is certainly not certain. Meanwhile, I've met many people who after graduating remained uneducated (and I speak here as a graduate so I've no axe to gring against university) - most of them being indoctrinated (by tutors themselves mired in Rousseau, Shelley, Byron, Foucault, Sartre, etc) rather than educated.

And they come out of it not with an education, where truth and reason have authority, but an indoctrincation where fantasy and feeling hold sway.

And as such they tend to vote 'Left'.

And that is not to say that those who vote 'Right' are somehow more likely to be educated (but that is a whole other subject and I'm a little short of time at the moment).

I believe in terms of polling any accredited secondary degree counts as educated. That is not to say that there is nessasarily any correlation between education and formal education. Some of the brightness minds in history are self taught.

Mike Rowe misses a point in his analysis. The educational level of African Americans supporting Obama was not reported because Obama had majority support among all African Americana regardless of education level, gender, income, etc. The reason education level is noteworthy now is that white males without a secondary education is the only group that Trump has majority support. That is noteworthy because typically Republican candidates have majority support much broader than that.

College grads paid good money (those that actually paid) for their liberal indoctrination and are entitled to look down on everyone else, and to be 'right' about just about everything, including picking our leaders. ;) It's in the fine print on their degrees, right next to "License to Steal".

Does not having a four year degree mean you are uneducated?

Yes, but this is simply a demographic label with a specific meaning.

It does not imply that one is ignorant or stupid or incompetent.

The term's current utility is that there is a difference in the voting habits of educated whites versus uneducated whites. In the case of blacks and Obama, both the educated and uneducated blacks overwhelmingly supported him, so there is no salience to the information about the uneducated ones.

In relative terms, "uneducated" may be an accurate description, though "less educated" would probably be more accurate. It does not mean "stupid", "moron" or other such things, though they may be trying to imply such by focusing on education levels. Don't know their motives.

For what it's worth, I qualify as "uneducated" under this standard.

Its not the difference in education that makes the difference in the polls, but rather that people who didn't graduate college have felt the most dire effects of current economic difficulties. So, logically they would be more likely to buy into his gloom and doom message.

Now, thinking Trump is going to fix the economy for the least competitive workers? Not really believing that myself but I'm not as desperate.

Uneducated can mean MANY things. I have an alphabet soup of letters after my name, indicating certain levels of academic and professional achievement, but there are certain areas that I am, admittedly, uneducated. If you want to talk about classic novels, well...I know nothing about them. My education ran to the sciences for the most part.

That said, I would define uneducated as someone who does not have the ability or willingness to voluntarily educate themselves on certain issues or subjects. Education SHOULD teach someone critical thinking skills, the ability to independently research and draw conclusions that may overturn certain preconceived notions or ideas. However, that is the sort of uneducated person I seem to see the most of...people who refuse to step out of their lock-step preconceived ideas and simple-mindedly swallow certain things whole without looking at the entire picture.

Thoughts?

You are quite observant.

"Education" (such as public or private schools, universities) is simply "indoctrination" using controlled information approved by those who control the masses.

There is much, MUCH useful, empowering information that is hidden from us because of "education", which is just a glorified indoctrination of the masses to conform to a socialistic society.

All the high college degrees, Masters, PhDs, engineering, computer science, and such are created to serve big corporations.

And if you really believe that...I would suggest that you haven't done much to educate yourself on facts.
