  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

She's not called "Crooked" for nothing, you know.

She's called "Crooked" because Mr. Trump used a grade school tactic. Granted, his followers see name calling as a strength. The rest of us see this as a weakness, and expect more of any adult, let alone someone who wants to lead the free world.

Even many Republicans agree: Donald Trump is a threat to America.

Trump's support among conservatives is collapsing. CBS poll:

Trump's support among self-ID'd conservatives is at 64%. Bush in '04 exits - 84% McCain in '08 - 78% Romney in '12 -82%

Among self-described conservatives, 21% now say they'll vote for Clinton over Trump.

Yes, those of us who prefer Hillary to Donald have often certainly implied, if not outright declared, that those who think Donald is the better choice are "stupid" or otherwise "not quite right in the head". Here is the problem, though. I politely suggest that if, repeat if, a person unashamedly embraces a candidate who is clearly a crackpot, that person is literally begging to have their mental faculties challenged. And - and this is really important - it appears that the more nutty Mr. Trump acts, the more his defenders like him.

No wonder the sanity of the Trump supporters is questioned - it's not so much that he is supported, it is that he is lionized for his wacky statements and actions. This is what has us shaking our collective heads.

Now you may be very well be one of those Trump supporters who thinks he is better choice even though he is clearly an immature narcissist who is not remotely qualified. Fair enough; at least there is a case to be made here.

I would also question the mental powers of any who would somehow think that Hillary is the better candidate because she is dishonest. This is the problem: it certainly appears that many, although certainly not all, Trump supporters inhabit a 'bizarro-Jerry" world where things like infantile behavior, race-baiting, and misogyny are actually virtues. By contrast, I think the Clinton crowd acknowledge she has moral issues and understand this as a weakness, not a strength.
MY MENTAL POWERS! Gee!!! My Undergraduate work at William&Mary ..postgrad Ph.D. from Duke. Play on words TRUMP THAT.

What is your point? I simply made the observation that many Trump supporters appears to embrace, welcome, and almost revel in his crazy behaviours. Is this not at least arguably the case?

So... I'm voting Trump as as businessman!! An imperfect analogy: if my AMG was acting hinky... Would I call my IT guy?? He's a smart cat but he can't fix a German engine any more than me! I call a mechanic! ...

This is what I don't understand. Trump's business experience is not paying for work done (literally 1000's of lawsuits currently active), conning desperate people out of their life savings and stealing the food from their children's mouths (currently a class action suit), and declaring bankruptcy (four times....that is failing....four times!).

How is any of that going to help the country? Is Mexico going to pay for the wall because Trump has bankrupted the USA, and Mexico needs the wall to stop the hundreds of millions of Americans heading south looking for work?

Trump is not a racist.
Hmmm. Consider this from the Donald:

"Does Madonna know something we all don't about Barack? At a concert she said 'we have a black Muslim in the White House."

Pinning the appropriate negative label on Mr. Trump is hard. And not because no labels fit, but rather because too many fit:

Is the above statement racist? No! the Trump supporter can reply (since this statement could, of course, be seen as Islamophobic instead).

Is the above statement Islamophobic? No! the Trump supporter can reply (since this statement could, of course, be seen as demonstrating profound ignorance instead).

Is the above statement ignorant? No! the Trump supporter can reply (since this statement could, of course, be seen as demonstrating profound racism instead).

Ah, the circle of life.

This is what is so odd about Trump supporters: you appear to almost revel in being exposed as supporting a ridiculously unqualified person for the office of President; it's almost as if the normal human emotions of shame and embarrassment have been transformed into badges of honor.
Exactly. How can anybody be proud to support a man they must surely know is ridiculously unqualified to be president?

... we know he is a multi-billionaire.

We know nothing of the kind. Until Mr. Trump releases some information, like his tax returns, it's all guessing.

Would a billionaire con desperate people out of their life savings, money that was needed to feed their children, as Mr. Trump did with Trump "University"? I just can't believe a billionaire would be so desperate for money that they would literally steal the food from children's plates. It's like we're dealing with a cartoon character, a real life Mr. Burns.

Trump is the best person for the job at this time.
I am guessing there are maybe 221,856,723 people in America more qualified than Trump to be President.

I am.

I met him some years back, and he was nice and considerate and respectful, and then again, he is also very good at what he does.

But I also disagree with the statement above. I would say he is not a threat to America, but is America, i.e. put out and pist off and would like to see a good house cleaning, and scale back the escalation of everything that once was America, so it can return to what we all love about it.

He's the dog we need in this fight.

I don't understand how you can say that. Would you really trust him to have the power to launch a nuclear war? His answers on policy are so unstable. He jumps around in incoherent rambling that always end up with praise for himself. It is scary to think of a mind like that having that much power.

His answer about the nuclear triad during the debates last year should have disqualified him. Not only did he not know what he was talking about, he didn't understand what was being asked.

There is uncertainty with regards to Trump, for sure, but this is better than the certainty of what Hillary would bring.

Thanks for repsonding. We're all entitled to our opinions, and I'll offer a few of my own.

Trump has made hundreds of business ventures, and they have failed how many times? Around 4? That's a pretty good success rate if you ask me. Warren Buffet, Icahn, and other hugely successful investors all have bad investments. The key is whether the good investments outweigh the bad ones. Judging by Trump's fortune, yes, his good investments clearly outweigh the bad ones.

Donald Trump's bankruptcies have left his contractors and suppliers with millions of dollars in unpaid bills. You mention Warren Buffett. One of my heroes. At least 15 times wealthier than Donald. I know Buffett owned stock, and lost money in one energy company that went bankrupt. But I'm not aware of any company which he actually controls that has gone under and left its employees and creditors in the lurch. And Berkshire Hathaway is a public company. Warren fully discloses financials to the SEC, which becomes public information. He answers to shareholders--one of whom is myself. In the nearly 10 years I've owned his stock, he's more than doubled my investment. So I know he's done the same for many others. I'm certain that Mr. Buffett has made more money for other people than Donald Trump has earned in his entire life.

How does he scapegoat Mexicans? Do you think all Mexicans are illegal immigrants? He's always talking about illegal immigrants.

What do you call it when he impugns the integrity of a federal judge because of his Mexican heritage? A well respected jurist rules against him, and Trump immediately claims the judge is based because of his ethnicity. How is that not race-baiting?

Why? What's so bad about having an actual border?

He's fantasizing about a 2,000 mile wall which Mexico has categorically stated it will never pay for. What's Donald gonna do about it?

Ending idealistic foreign interventions, ending nation-building, ending unfair globalist trade deals, all sound pretty good to me.

You know DT says he's gonna take out ISIS. Back in March, he called for 30,000 troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria. You think that will work? How long will they have to be there? And how many American soldiers will be killed, maimed, captured and beheaded in propaganda videos? So much for ending warmongering and foreign interventions.

Well y'know there's Republicans who are part of the establishment and nope, they don't like Trump, at all. Nada. I think what these Republicans mean, possibly, is that Donald Trump is a threat to THEM.

And in case there is any doubt, i am voting for Donald J Trump. i'm one o' those former Democrats that crossed on over to vote for Donald Trump. I'm not the only one. I suspect there are/have been many.

i disagree that Trump is a threat to America.

NO! You used the WORDS: mental ability First! Not me!!! Try following the ball. I gave my acedemic creds only in response to our mental ability! Now you say so what! I only challenged your stereotype! So which is it?? Trump supporters are cretins! Until I present my creds and you duck and cover as if you DID NOT QUESTION mental ability. Make up that mind...
Are you saying that because a person has the mental faculty to succeed academically that it naturally equates to having common sense or even to being of sound mind?

Not questioning your personal abilities or mental condition, just askin'.
