When I was younger, I couldn't stand dogs. In fact I despised, even was a little afraid of them, all due to having an awful experience with some when I was a kid. For years, I refused to ever have anything to do with them, because in my mind they were all snarling, un-washed, monsters who would hurt you the first chance they got. I was very close-minded about the entire thing due to bitterness from my past experience.
Then, one day, I was visiting a friend and what do you know, she had a dog. I was very uncomfortable, even a little awkward around him. However, as the day went on, he really won me over with his cute little eyes and the way he would roll over on your lap and force you to rub his belly... sigh. I gave in. After a few scratches he was basically my new best friend.
That is when I realized, not every dog can be defined by the select few who are awful creatures, because hidden among them there are plenty who are sweet, lovely gems and will be loyal to you. So long as you scratch their belly and play with them.
I am not sure what you can learn from this story, but I guess the general idea is, dogs aren't so bad if you put the effort into finding the right ones.

or something like that.
I think there is a lesson hidden in there about keeping an open-mind, but I am not sure.
I still prefer cats.
