Someone told me the other day that the only reason they were able to marry is because they lowered their standards, and if I ever hope to find someone I have to do the same.

I am torn between this either being screwed up thinking or it was an insult. lol
Was she saying you're shallow and too into looks? Or that you're some kind of prude who wants someone too moral and principled? Cause one is an insult and the ither is terrible advice.

Whoa... Now that's what you call a pair of Bristols.

I wonder what size bra he is.

We were talking about virtues like patience, being a gentleman, intelligence, responsible, etc.

Then in that case, don't lower your standards at all. There's a reason why divorces rates are sky high now.

My mother married the bad boy who liked to party but as soon as they had me, relations went downhill. They fought and fought and eventually divorced when I was 13. They still have bitter relations because my father had no sense of patience and responsibility.

My step-father, however, is incredibly calm, patient, wise and responsible and my mother is incredibly happy with him. My mother admits thought that if she met him during her younger years she would not have taken interest in him.
Oh, yes. I have had more than enough with the 'bad boys'. They might be fun, but aren't worth a darn in the real world when bills and life become a part of the equation. Lol.

Good for your mother for finding someone she deserves. :)

Then that's horrible advice and you should be patting yourself on the back for having standards. There's far worse things than being single and waiting on God to reveal the right person to you.

I think the whole idea of marriage in itself being some kind of a goal is pretty creepy idea. I think if we had some kind of race for "Get married as fast as you can" here, most of us would be married by the end of this year. Then we could have a whole new forum for "unhappily married ex-singles" on CF...

I agree that all too often people are in such a rush, rather than letting it happen naturally, and they forget to actually think about what they're doing.
Or, even worse, they don't actually know who they're marrying.. not really.

If we took my coworker's advice, then sure, we could get married anytime! However, it wouldn't be a very fulfilling, or long lived marriage.. I have seen how those marriages end.

I am fine with waiting. Not going to settle just because I am 'tired of waiting'.

Yeah, you're only 20. No reason to rush.

I'm 26 and I'm not in any hurry to marry either. Lol.

Yeah! For every day before the wedding, the participants lose 1 point, and then they gain 1 point for every day they manage to stay married! So, theoretically, picking a bit more wisely could end up winning points. We're so gonna get rich with this

I like to think that happiness is the goal, not marriage. The chance of marrying is rated by what kind of an impact it has for the primary goal, happiness.

I try to stay at about snail speed, my friend.
Although sometimes, when the conditions are right, I feel myself getting up to about turtle speed.
I then have to take a step back and snap myself back to reality.
Phew, it can be tough!

Would be especially interesting if you took people from the same community like CF Singles.
