  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, I do not have the time to do that. I have done that many times for other people, read some of my old posts.

I will not do your work for you. You say that you have evidence to show, then show it.

The books name accurate historical places, so the books must be true.
Are you serious, you want to compare a book of fiction to what we learn from archeology? You do not know the difference between science and fiction?

These are the walls of Jericho that we read about in the Bible. This is evidence that the Walls of Jericho existed. They really did fall as the Bible says because they are still there on the ground today. (Joshua 6:1-27, the walls of Jericho fell) Jericho is still there today, one of the Oldest cities still in existence. It has a population of 18,346. They did not rebuild that part of the city so it is still there today for archaeology to study. To verify that the Bible is accurate and true.

... my reply was weak? MY reply was weak?
You've done nothing to actually talk about science in this thread. All you have done is preach and, in an incredibly roundabout way, say that you are above everyone else, just because you're a Christian.
Oh, come on now I have never said or feel that I am above anyone, especially you....where have I said that. I believe what I believe. You constantly want degrade what I say too...it is a ...quid-pro-quoi debate. The science I gave was not mine, it came from an expert in the field. Forget the science, I don't care about the science, which I love......but for me, it is not about science, all-be it, God is the supreme scientist...the reason I believe is faith and if one does not have this grace from God, they will never understand!

I think this is exactly what Warden is talking about. This is not a constructive argument.
If you want to know the truth then you should read:

http://www.pbs.org/walkingthebible/
That page doesn't include any evidence. It's just a tour of the locations that are named...reminds me of the Harry Potter walking tour I went on one time.

This is the archaeology site of Troy. This proves that Achilles was dipped into the River Styx as a child by Thetis, making him immortal except in his heel. This proves that Greek Gods are real.

Really there are people somewhere that do not have to struggle? Where are these people? It has a lot more to do with your attitude then it does how easy or hard your life is. As a Christian we know that God will cause all things to work out for the best for us.

My point was; feel free to live in a fantasy world if you think reality is to difficult to handle. I am not to judge anyone for doing that. But do not come and tell me your fantasy is "the truth" and that I am stupid or inferior if I do not agree (which is what you are doing all the time in your posts).

And again, how do you know? Where are all the scientific evidence you claim exists that show how snakes and burning bushes can talk, that angels and demons exist, and how wood sticks can turn into snakes etc? Do you with purpose hide the evidence for use, just to teas use, or what?

Think about it as tennis game; you demand that people play with the net up when they serves against you, but when it is your turn to serve then the net goes down. But when somebody decided to play with the net down (Harry Potter) like you do (the Bible) then you start to yell the net must be up again.

Everyone agree the presented evidence for Harry Potter is silly, in the same way your scientific evidence for the Bible is viewed as silly by everyone. The difference is you do not agree this is the case for some reason. That stubborn attitude of you make you look silly and that is why people laugh at you. I don't though, I think it is sad you cannot see your own flaws and short comings. I also think it is potential dangerous to have an attitude that one cannot possible be wrong, since it can lead one to to hurt, directly or indirectly, other people.

the reason I believe is faith ... they will never understand!

Why do you think a non-believer does not understand faith? To understand implies reasons, do you have reasons for your faith? You say your reason is faith. Well, faith is to hold a belief when there exists no reason to hold that belief. Therefore, per definition faith cannot be understood by reasons. I.e. there exists no reason to have faith.

However, to then say a non-believe does not understand what faith is, is going a step to far; non-believers understand what faith is, it to believe something to be true that cannot be defended by reason. What a non-believer merely ask for is a reason to believe it to be true and if you then say the non-believer needs faith as reason to believe then you are back to square one again; because when you give faith as reason to believe you, per definition of faith, gives "no reason at all" as a reason to believe.

When you say "the reason I believe is faith" you are in fact saying "I just believe it to be true for no reason at all".

So what exactly is it a non-believer do not understand about a belief with no reasons - or maybe it is you that do not understand why you are believing yourself?

You ever heard about the phenomena called gravity and what it does with stonewalls which have not been maintained in the past thousands years? And like said before, we know Troy existed therefore it follows the Greek Gods exists? No it does not.

Your attitude really comes across as though you are talking to someone beneath you, especially the part were you are consistently telling people to find God.

And I will ask again: where did you get your number from? Show us in the form of a link, where you got your number from. It is not that hard of a request.

You need to do more research then that. The point is that the stones fell on the exact date that the Bible said that the wall fell. In ever way the Bible is an accurate History book. The Bible is also a Law book. The Bible has poetry and the Bible has prophecy about the future.

The bible contains 66 books with a variety of genres: history, poetry, prophecy, wisdom literature, letters, and apocalyptic just to name a few. These 66 books were written by 40 different authors. These authors came from a variety of backgrounds: shepherds, fishermen, doctors, kings, prophets, and others. And most of these authors never knew one another personally. These 66 books were written over a period of 1500 years,

In 3500 years no one has ever falsified the Bible. People try and they always fail.

The Bible says let God be true and every man a liar.
So this is between YOU and the GOD that created YOU.
It has nothing to do with me.

Even our unrighteousness shows the righteousness of God.

This is the archaeology site of Troy.
It proves that the Troy that Homer talks about was a real city. There is a good chance that Helen of troy was a real person and that she left her husband and ran off with her boyfriend. Although maybe she was kidnapped as her husband insisted. As a general rule people that wrote history books embellished them a LOT. Even the Kings would pay a lot of money so that the authors would make the Kings look good in the history books. This is what makes the Bible different from all the other books. You are simply NOT in a place of authority to question the Biblical Canon. You do not have a PhD in Theology. You would have to be a Doctor of Theology to have the authority to pass judgement on the authority of the Bible. Most main line denominations requires their priest or pastors to have a post graduate degree.

A biblical canon, or canon of scripture, is a list of texts (or "books") which a particular religious community regards as authoritative scripture. The word "canon" comes from the Greek κανών, meaning "rule" or "measuring stick".

The exact date? Goodness! What is the exact date the Bible said the walls fell, and how did the archaeologists find that exact date when they dug the site? And did they find evidence that the walls had been brought down by music?

Why do you think a non-believer does not understand faith?
It is simple for those who glorify God....faith is a gift given only to a believer....only a selective few have this grace and you being a confirming Agnostic you will not have or understand faith but, just like me once, that can change and I welcome you to the body of Christ but, you MUST want it!

Sorry you feel this way, I simply detest condescension and if you think I was...forgive me! As far as "finding God"...that's what believers do....why are you here?
And I will ask again: where did you get your number from? Show us in the form of a link, where you got your number from. It is not that hard of a request.
Sure, it is all over the internet, just Google Peter Stoner or The probability of Jesus based on completed prophecies .

I don't consider faith to be a virtue, and quite unnecessary. There is either evidence for beliefs, or there isn't. I just don't see the value in having to prop up unsupportable ideas.
