  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Origin of God's Morality.

You gave an example of someone who is real to illustrate that one cannotsimply 'choose' to believe things of which one is not convinced?

Do you live on this planet?

Because I can't imagine someone in the western hemisphere who, when asked the question "Do you believe in Santa?", would think the question means the actual Turkish bishop.

I don't really care. I just think it's funny. Atheists coming to a Christian board to argue. ROTFL.

Glad to amuse you.
I think it's funny too.
Probably for different reasons though.

Yes, they are. People who don't believe them are their own problem

Wow.
Ok, then.... so you don't care at all about the burden of proof, nore about being rationally justified in your beliefs, nore about your beliefs actually being correct.

You just "like em" and "hold em".

That's totally weird to me.

Prove that you're sincerely interested. I'll wait, but I won't hold my breath.

When the acceptance of your "proof" as "proof", depends upon someone's interest, then that is not a good sign as to the quality of that "proof".

The same can be said for a belief in a flat Earth that hangs motionless in space, while the cosmos rotates around it.

Indeed. By what sorcery can people live on the underside of a sphere without falling off into space?
Who, do you believe, actually believed in a flat earth?

What do you mean, no proof? He has a day of the week named after him! Do you think our calendar nomenclature is built on myth?
No, it's built on the Roman panopoly of gods in the ancient world. Just as we use Roman and Arabic numerology, still, we use the names that were given when they were given.

Can we apply this thinking to other subjects?

"Cold fusion could have been demonstrated as real, if only those skeptical of it were sincerely interesed in seeing it work, and then they could finally deliver on that promise of clean and affordable energy..."

Cool. Can you do all three here, or will this be a new thread?

I'll bring popcorn.

Almost as funny as your inept apologetics.
I don't argue with people who aren't interested, which is the category I put you in. You don't know my apologetic abilities, even the smallest degree of them. People with sincere questions get sincere explanations. You don't qualify as sincere.

That's because you don't bother yourself with religion.

Wait, which religion are you talking about now?
Because last time I checked, Islam was the fastest growing religion in the world.
Fastest doesn't matter, my friend. Christianity, especially Catholicism, is growing at a very good rate. We don't force people to believe what we believe, as Islam does. We teach what we believe, and leave it to the individual. Rates of abortions and birth control are the main reason for lack of growth of Christianity in the Western world...

I have rational justification for my beliefs. There is no dichotomy between faith and reason. Except in your mind.
You just "like em" and "hold em".

That's totally weird to me.
Likewise, your beliefs.

I can only judge your apologetics abilities by what you've presented thus far, which isn't much.
People with sincere questions get sincere explanations. You don't qualify as sincere.
You have no basis for concluding that I am insincere in my questioning. Either present a case or go home.

I don't really care if you accept my proof as proof, honestly. But if you want to do some research, go to http://www.peterkreeft.com/topics/gods-existence.htm, and read all the articles that follow it.
Don't hold your breath for that happening......
Having glanced through the site, which have I been referred to in the past by the way, it appears to offer the same stock standard arguments. You seem to be under the impression that the atheists here have never encountered or considered these before. Even if that were the case, it's beside the point. This is an apologetics discussion forum where Christians are invited to present and defend their case for Christianity. Unless you intend on using that source to support your arguments in some way - arguments you have yet to present - it does nothing to further the discussion in any meaningful way.

Your inability to understand is not his fault....

Your snarky one liners, that contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation, fully demonstrate your insincerity.....

From the Apologetics SoP:
As a general guide for posting topics, non-Christians who are challenging Christianity should offer arguments as to why Christian beliefs are incorrect or untrue. Similarly, threads started by Christians should contain an argument why Christian beliefs are true and correct. All thread topics must contain an identifiable argument against or for the Christian faith. All participants should endeavor to support their arguments, and their rebuttals, with evidence.

I don't believe your snarky one liners come even close to qualifying.....maybe you are the one who should go home....
