  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Bernie Sanders is the problem because he only knows politics and not how the real world operates. The more I hear from him the more it's clear to me.
The love of these politicians how they stay in power for so long as they always assume it's the other politician / party that is the problem.

In the 50's and 60's America industry was outgrowing the population growth which is why there were an "epic" middle class. After that USA started more "freebies" programs.

Does that include freebies to Corporations that get tax refunds that don't pay taxes? The more I read opinions like yours the more I know why Billionaires are allowed to continue what benefits them from the government but no one else! Greed and selfishness abounds when the majority are content with just that. I am very thankful that there is one politician Bernie Sanders that is not content seeing the middle class disappear, not content on all those that are not covered with medical insurance and/or have deductibles/premiums so high they still can not afford medical care, not content with those that work two jobs while not getting paid a living wage, and not content with trade deals that sends our jobs over seas! It's refreshing to know someone cares about other people and his record proves just that!!

Billionaires are backing Bernie Sanders. :)

Not exactly! Those Billionaires within moveon.org did NOT make the decision to endorse Bernie by their self as they had ALL their members vote and those members many middle class people that the majority voted to endorse Bernie Sanders so can't compare that to super pacs where the majority of them are millionaires and billionaires supporting candidates with super pacs but nice try! Who is to say that moveon's members voted for who those Billionaires wanted!? Although there could be a few billionaires that support the same issues that Bernie does :)

And you believe that someone been in politics for decades doesn't have people backing them.

Oh I totally disagree the "freebies" programs are not the problem as they reward bad behavior.

Listen to what you've said: You've talked about "rewarding bad behavior." This is talk about incentive systems. Now look at how we fund campaigns in the U.S. Talk about the expected outcome of that incentive system.

And, again, regarding "freebies," this is what led to middle class of the 1950's and 1960's. Besides that, there are solvent countries have more "freebies" than we have. Governments can run big programs. Just not ours. What's the difference? It isn't career politicians. It isn't "freebies." Most of them have higher income and capital gains taxes than we have. Why can they do these things successfully and we can't? Is the U.S. an inferior country? I think no.

Billionaires are backing Bernie Sanders. :)

If I were a billionaire, I would support Bernie Sanders. However, I could not have leverage the same way I could have leverage with politicians with Super PACs.

How does people become billionaires? If Bernie Sanders were Santa Claus he could give everyone free healthcare.

I think it would be hard for Santa Claus to give everybody free healthcare without campaign finance reform. Again, you mentioned rewarding people for bad behavior. We need to fix the way campaigns are financed so that politicians don't have a conflict between who paid for their elections and who they are supposed to represent.

We need to limit the terms people hold an office as suggested in the 90's but it will never happen. It's up to the people to limit their terms but they always assume it the other side that's the problem. Sanders is not for limiting the government power but increasing it.

Limiting terms does nothing to limit government power.

Sanders wants to give government even more power which is a good reason not to vote for him.
I support a smaller government.

People who have never served before are bought just as easily as people who have served their whole lives. In general, new people don't get into office (in the U.S. in the 21st century) without a deep-pocketed constituency. The problem is not that people serve for a long time. The problem is that they are bought. This is done (primarily) through campaign contributions and donations to Super PACs.

Term limit is not the answer. The real power is in the money given to politicians. Take away the money and watch the corruption decline.

Limiting terms does nothing to limit government power.
Except maybe limit their hold and amount of time a particular person is IN power.

As it does in every country that does it.

Personally, government runs inefficiently. Until there comes a time in which that begins to change? I'm hesitant to give them more of anything. How long have they promised to fix the VA? They passed something, and still not much as changed. Their all mouth and no action.

How do you know not much has changed at the VA? What did they promise to fix?

It's the U.S. government that runs inefficiently. Other governments run big programs just fine. Ours _could_ run efficiently and they actually have at times in history and still do with some programs.
